Due to the upgrade of DF, there is a limit on the number of characters a post can have and unfortunately, the original post (now deleted) which Peach and I have been updating contains almost twice as much! :lol:

The information for 2006 has been loaded into the Calendar feature.

You have to login to Dance Forums inorder to view the contents of the calendar.

If anyone does want to add a salsa congress to the calendar, please follow the style that has been used:

Heading - Salsa: city, country

Body - Dates, website details and any further details.

In carrying out the entry exercise, I found that long headings do not work, seeing as most of them are "x Annual Salsa Congress etc". In addition, where there were lots of lines, a particular date was giving me a summary of Events (6) instead of listing. Hope this makes sense.

What would also be useful is if anyone adds an entry, if they could put the date they added/updated the information as this would be helpful in knowing how recent the information is.

If you're planning your travel more than a year in advance, please bear in mind that most of these events are planned consistantly around the same time every year, particularly congresses. As soon as the websites are updated, dates can be provided. Please check back often. :D

By the way I'm interested in knowing about December/January 2005/2006 events in Europe. Since I'm going to India in December 05 and coming back Jan 06 I might be able to transit through Europe and do some dancing too.

Sagitta, I am not aware of that much happening in Europe around Christmas/New Year with regards to salsa. Depending on your flights, MamboCity might be doing their event again in 2005/2006 (they are doing it for the second time running in 2004/2005). In Birmingham, I believe they do a New Year's Eve party which is supposed to be good, if not very good. I think there might even be stuff in Edinburgh/Glasgow but MacMoto would have to tell you about that. Not much tends to happen in London because it gets so ridiculously expensive - prices tend to triple/quadruple :roll:

Christmas 2005 is still a bit too far away to say anything firm about, but chances are there will be salsa in Edinburgh. I know that the Merlin team has already booked the venue for Friday 9th and Sunday 18th December 2005 (both dances preceded by "Rueda Club"), and they are planning another Salsa Hogmanay on New Years Eve 2005. There was salsa on Boxing Day last year and will be again this year, so hopefully next year's Boxing Day will be the same.

I'm hoping to go to this year's MamboCity Christmas Event in London. If I make it I'll report back.

It's nice when organizers can at least advertise dates way in advance. Even if the registration doesn't until a few months before the event, people sometimes plan holidays a year or two in advance. :? The dates are 11-13 November and location is Warsaw. This time there will be English (and probably German as well) version of the web page. For now it contains only an announcement but it will be updated regularly.

As the description says, the emphasis seems to be on Rumba/Orishas rather than salsa itself. As this looks at the origins/influences on Cuban salsa, I felt this was a worthwhile event to include.

There are big changes. The info posted is probably a year old. You'll notice the web site is not up. This Convention is now called "Festival Borincano" http://www.festivalborincano.com/. The date is Aug 20 - 29, and it is in San Juan (not Ponce) at the Pedrin Zorrila Coliseum. This is in the same complex as the Roberto Clemente Coliseum and Hiram Bithorn Stadium. It's accross the street from Plaza Las Americas Shopping Mall, which many who've ever been to PR may know.

The two promoters who put on the PR World Salsa Congress split up last year, and that's why you had two at the same time in different cities. Eli Irrizary this year teamed up with Albert Torres for the one in El San Juan Hotel this week. This one seems to have kept in line with what the traditional Congress has been.

I don't know how the Festival Borincano will be. It is being organized by the other ex-partner Richard Goenaga. It will be held at a Coliseum, not in a Hotel. You can't just run up to your room, but they advertise there will be free transportation to and from the hotels which are like 15 minutes away. I don't know how many people usually stay at the same hotel the Congress is held, as opposed to ones looking for alternate (less expensive?) lodging. So only the former may care about the venue.

I saw the premliminary list of seminar topics. It looked pretty good, al lot of stuff I would enjoy, although only two concurrent workshops to choose from as opposed to three in the Congress. I see Josie Neglia and Rogelio Moreno are expected - I'm a fan for I have some of their videos.

I hope this sort of competitiion helps instead of hurts the quality and popularity of the Salsa Congress scene in Puerto Rico. As far as I can say the Pueto Rico Salsa Congress going on right now is of great quality. It's like nothing has changed. If the Festival Borincano is also a success then the better off we salseros all are. I hope they both succeed and move the dates a bit further appart so maybe people can come to both and not choose one over the other. :wink:

The info posted isn't over a year old. :lol: I do check the website links regularly for changes and remember checking the PR ones at least 3-4 months ago - made a mental note re the two PR congresses to keep checking the websites as I had noticed the "Ponce" website did not seem to have much info but, I guess I lost the "mental note" somewhere. :lol:

If anyone does want to add a salsa congress to the calendar, please try and follow the style that has been used:

Heading - Salsa: city, country

Body - Dates, website details and any further details.

In carrying out the entry exercise, I found that long headings do not work, seeing as most of them are "x Annual Salsa Congress etc". In addition, where there were lots of lines, a particular date was giving me a summary of Events (6) instead of listing. Hope this makes sense.

What would also be useful is if anyone adds an entry, if they could put the date they added/updated the information as this would be helpful in knowing how recent the information is.

It appears that you have to login to view the contents of the calendar.
