I saw this story a couple of months ago. It's a really interesting read with some great pictures. It's about a girl who takes her motorcycle through Chernobyl. Apparently, the area will be uninhabitable for many years still, but it is still safe to visit for short periods of time if you have one of those meters that measures radiation (and you stay away from the worst areas). So here it is: Girl Rides Motorcycle through Chernobyl (http://xpda.com/junkmail/junk153/chernobyl/)

Those are some powerful pictures. I wonder how strong the silence really is, how long would it take for the silence to get to me?

If anyone ever gets to visit the Peace Park in Hiroshima, that's a very moving place. At the same time, the whole Park is surrounded by much affluence and commerce--so that it's a real experience to walk from the Park into the city proper.
Also, if anyone has seen the film Hiroshima, Mon Amour.

It was very much a cover up at the time and I don't think anybody really knew the details of what happened. The picture of all the fire trucks with the hoses out, the doors open...that's the one that really got me...I know there were some incredible heroes that we will never know.
