Hi all,
I have a question regarding whether there's any point in me applying to go to a dance school.
Basically, I discovered my love of dance very late. In fact I only started dancing aged 20 whilst at university. Since then, I've had many lessons in ballroom and latin from some very good teachers, and have reached a decent standard. I've also trained myself to a decent level in some hip hop moves, and have worked a lot on body isolation to the point that I have very good control over my movement. I'm about to turn 23 now and so have been dancing fairly intensely for a little over 2 years.
I've recently graduated from university, and I've come to realise that dancing is really what I want to do. Even if it's too late to make it as a professional for a very long time, I'd love to get involved in producing and choreographing dance work. And I am definitely most passionate about contemporary dance. Obviously, I need to go to a contemporary dance school in order to achieve my dream, ideally the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, or Laban, although I know that's aiming pretty damn high.
So I wondered, given my age, and that I have not done ballet (and don't have great fexibility), if there is any point in me even trying to apply for these schools, or should I just give it up and stick to dance as a hobby?
I do think that I have some kind of talent for this type of dance because I find it very easy to improvise to music with different styles, and I've been told I have a very good sense of rhythm. I wasn't really even considering it as an option until I heard that Matthew Bourne didn't start dancing properly until the age of 22, which made me think that maybe it isn't too late...
Any advice would be appreciated
