What types/who do you like, if you like classical music at all?

For those who are waltz dancers, please declare this interest :lol: otherwise Johann Strauss will appear to be very popular :lol:

I love Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini and Strauss' The Blue Danube :banana:

As a whole, I prefer them light - ones that sound very dark, I change channels :oops: :lol:

I like a lot of classical pieces -- lots of years playing violin and flute. Hmm. Gabriel Faure's Requiem is one of my favorites. The Libera Me has the most beautiful baritone solo. Nice. 8)

Oh yeah, and Strauss makes me physically ill. Nothing personal. I just happened to be playing second violin in an orchestra that was accompanying some big stage production years ago. Lots of Viennese waltzes. The only problem is that the first violins have the melodic line. The second violin part was PITIFUL. It consisted of rest, chunk, chunk almost every measure of every waltz. For a couple hours straight performance time, not to mention all the rehearsal time. If I never see or hear Strauss again, I'll be just fine, thank you very much! :shock: :lol: It all depends on your perspective, I guess. :wink:

I like classical music, but I generally buy "greatest hits" type of cd's for it. I like debussy best, Clair de lune being my favorite song.

I like some classical. I listen off and on, and would have to listen again to figure out my favs. No time for that now with Argentine Tango a greater priority. :( :)

Chances are most people know more classical music that they think. They may not know the names, but they know the tunes. A lot of popular classical pieces are used as incidental music or background music for everything from TV commercials to cartoons to movies. You name it.

Lizst, Rachmaninov, Ceaikovski, Mahler, Carl Orff... :)

That's a nice piece. 8) Did yu happen to see Ordinary People, the Mary Tyler Moore/Donald Sutherland movie? It has a beautiful choral arrangement of the Canon in D. I think that's when it got really popular. Of course, that movie came out long, long ago. Maybe around the time you were born, I think. :? I'll have to google. I think it was around 1980.
