stuck in a plateau

i was wondering if getting stuck in a plateau is common for dancers.

lately, it seems as if my dancing (style) has stopped improving and i feel like im stuck in a rut. once in a while, i would go on a hiatus and come back and my dancing improves. but lately, it hasnt gotten any better and im wondering if its time to take some private lessons or if theres something else i should be doing.

any comments would be appreciated!

i go through that from time to time.


It happens to be when I have taken lessons and haven`t been able to practice or master the newer steps. Comfort kicks in and I revert back to the known steps.

It always helps to pick a couple songs a night just to work on 1 bad habit. use those songs to keep your mind totally tuned to that one particular bad habit... soon, you won't even have to think about it anymore, for you have taught your body to stop doing it... Make sure you pick the stinky songs to work on it. If you pick a good one you won't even be thinking about the habit but rather enjoying the song/dance.

Welcome Jenn!

I take a lot of privates, and I still find that I plateau at times, usually when I'm exceptionally busy and have a lot on my mind. I actually try to switch out from dance to dance. If my salsa is stuck, I work on my swing or ballroom harder.
