i made a post a week ago saying i was gonna propose to my girl at our comp in 2 weeks. well its getting oh so close. do you think i should propose right before we go on teh floor or wait until after we dance and later that night? the only drawback to asking before is it will mess up our heads i think esp if she says no lol. what do you think?

:) How sweet! May I suggest afterwards? You'll probably be quite nervous already so asking her before may shift your focus from the competition. Just my opinion. :D

That's so romantic! :D

Wait until after the competition is over to propose. Good luck, with both the proposal and the competition. Let us know what happens!

i can already predict the comp results its the proposing that scares me.
this is our first natioanl event and we are dancing pro closed smooth and pro american rhythm. i'm not even looking to place, its all for experience.

How about selecting a nice place for after the event and tell her that you have organised an after comp dinner to celebrate your first national event? Then you can legitimately pack a bottle of champagne and various other items without her suspecting.

What ever you do, I would not recommend hiding a ring in the champagne just in case she does not notice it before drinking :?

Or, even at breakfast time the morning after? That way, your nerves will hopefully be under more control?

Goodluck!

I'd probably say after. If you have a good time dancing despite limited expectations of the the results, then you can propose and expand the focus from something you have just been through together, to everything that you hope to share in the future. If for some reason the comp leaves you both feeling down, you can postpone the proposal for a day, plan a romantic evening together to ******* your spirits - and propose once things feel right again.

Ive got like 3 minutes here so this has to be quick...

I agree with the other...Afterwards is best!

I saw it happen last year...At the last Australian Open a guy proposed to his girlfriend.
After her events had finsished he had the officals call her over the PA system to come down to the middle of the floor as they had something for her...she went down and as she walked out to the floor (in front of an arena that seats 10,000!) The officals backed away as her boyfrined walked out holding a ring.... It was the sweetest thing to see! The whole place just wemnt "awwwwwww!"

Call me a cynic, but personally I would hate to be put in a situation like that... I mean, what if the girl wasn't too sure about agreeing to marry on the spot? You would never know if she said yes because she really wanted to, or because everybody in the arena was watching her hoping that she would say yes?

I'd say propose after the comp, and do it in private. I think the after-comp dinner idea is really nice and romantic. :)

Damn... I missed this thread.

I would have suggested you talk to the DJ and do it DURING. Depending on the dance, I would probably have said it's a special dance request for [this couple] as if it were a birthday dance.

Al Green: Let's Stay Together. Debbie and Wes Boz before they went off to Phoenix did this nicely improvised WCS dance to it. Really cute.
