'Fess up. Have you ever done it? Plusses, minuses? Anyone?

(And yes, dancing in just socks, counts.  )

Done it in socks once, for contra dancing, and got blisters. Never again.

In socks on occasion - general dance at a comp when I didn't have shoes on, etc.

One thing to watch out for is that two people locally have broken toes this way. In one case it was a slightly misaligned outside partner step, where the woman's little toe collided with the front corner of the heel of the man's shoe.

Though to do spins. (Better with socks on)

Personally I don't get the same feel when dancing in socks. It may be just a case of practice though.

It's great dancing with bare feet on grass in the summer.

(And you end up with green feet, and don't need the ebay socks)

Yep Sagitta. Ouch! Although sliding across the floor in socks used to be quite fun until I developed sensitive feet. Ugh, the problems that come with again. :?

Constantly!! Perfect for impromptu practice between the couch and the fridge. :D

yes... done some rehearsals... my feet ached so badly I needed to take the shoes off... the spins went just fine when my feet got covered with a layer of floor dust!

I'm planning on going to a "Sock Hop" on Saturday. It's a Lindy venue, but this will be more of a 50's theme. I'm planning on wearing my thicker socks, but will be keeping my dance shoes (sueded sneakers) in reserve.

Any suggestions? Or warnings?

I've danced in socks a couple of times when my feet hurt. While it does make a few things easier, like spins, I think it's better to dance in my dance shoes. It's a difference balance feel with the socks than with my 2 1/2 inch heels.

Try dancing on socks on a uneven dancefloor - splinters in the feet.

Yes. I grew up in a hundred-plus year old house with lovely hardwood floors. Splinters galore! :x

I have tile, linoleum and carpet in my newer (and oh-so-boring) house, so splinters are no longer a problem. I kind of miss the hardwood floors, though. :(

I love dancing barefooted, if there were ever a guaranteen of no broken glass!

Dancing on grass is great fun! You can spin & slide pretty well after the rain too  !

I have a pretty impressive layer of callous on the balls of my feet so blisters are not an issue 8) .

  too!

Socially, I haven't in ages. I worry about splinters/broken glass :( Also, even though I dance mainly on the ball of my feet, I find that I still miss having some sort of height thing, even it it is from Block sneakers

If I am in a studio however, I will take my shoes off, as I love the feel of the floor with my bare feet :D

This may sound very stupid but I have danced barefooted because my dancepartner was very little. I was wearing pretty high heels and I was feeling kinda sorry for him (don't know why actually) so I took of my shoes. It didn't really make a big difference in dancing 'cause the floor was pretty slippery.

Well, if you dance on the beach (and I do not mean the nice wooden dance floor I have posted pics off from Cannes, I mean on the real Baywatch type beach) you are bound to be dancing bearfeet.

It is a lot of fun, though with all the sand, I'd rather go for slow songs, exhausting enough ;)

I have also tried Rueda on the beach, great fun, and people around us kinda looked at us like "looney's day out" !

Then, what is always fun is if you can swim to that litle peer floating a quarter mile or so from the beach... and dance on it ! Obviously, barefeet again, and again, been dancing in couple and did Rueda (2 couples and up to 8 couples) well it is not the most stable dance floor you can find, believe me, and well, you obviously do not bring your radio swiming, so no music...
But boy is that fun !!!
Lots of new figures too : "enschufla al bomba !" just pick up your follow and throw her in the water, looks great from a distance. Though you'd better swim faster then the girls do if you intend to keep your swiming suit ;)

And with all the sand, defenitely no spinning, please!

How about dancing in the water? Haven't tried it myself, but I've heard (and seen the photos) of people dancing in a (shallow) swimming pool...

Yep, tried it too, but it's more about the fun in the water than the dancing itself : "enshufla free willy" is a fun one but man, try and do a "dame dos" or a "dos con dos" when the water is knee high

ahhh that's when triple steps come in handy (says the lindy hopper) ... but then I guess that would be a turn and not a spin then wouldn't it?

I've done it. Dancing solo, barefoot on the grass just after sunrise. :D
