Looks like I'll be visitng San Diego for a conference from July 11-16. I am hoping to have a few free evenings to go out and dance. I know I will be free on the 11th and possibly the 12th and for sure the 15th (flying back on the 16th). I might even be lucky enough to have some other evenings free but can't bet on it, I am there to work after all.

So, I'm calling out to anyone in San Diego, or informed others, that know the dance scene. Help me figure out what to do!! :D

Hmm, don't know of any mid-week ballroom... Porfirio?

Sunday night tends to have great salsa at the Belly Up Tavern (858-481-8140) in Solana Beach... but call ahead, sometimes they cancerl it for unrelated concerts! Not too far away there's also a Milonga (starts at 8:30) at Dance North County (760-942-6362) in Encinitas.

There used to be a Tango (AT) pactice on Monday nights at Tio Leo's (619-542-0562), but I'm not sure if that's still the case or not.

Thursdays there's Cafe Sevilla (which I hate!) downtown for salsa (619-233-5979), or, last I heard, Club Caribe in Bonita (619-472-2400).

I don;t really know the AT scene, but if I hear of anything else I'll let you know.

Hope that helps.

Does this include WCS?

I was in San Diego two months ago on vacation and attended a WCS dance at the Starlight Studio which was awesome. The group that holds these dances is known as Innovations (http://www.innovationsdance.org/). These are done on Sundays except at the beginning on the month when they do so on Saturday - that's the one I attended. 8)

Salsaguy mentioned a restaurant called Tio Leos; I ate at one of these and the food was great.

Unfortunately when Spitfire was in town coincided witht the Emerald Ball (up in L.A.) so I wasn't in town...

Social WCS at Starlight and Ballroom at Champion are good, but only tend to happen on Fridays and/or Saturdays.

I was looking out for anyone who resembled you SD. I did meet Porfirio and his partner at the Champion; they looked great on the floor. First DF member I've actually met - other then Youngsta, but that was before Dance-Forums was created.

Sorry for delayed reply, I was away for the 4th.

Thanks for all the input. I'll have to see how things shape up when I get out there. This is a start :)
