I started Salsa dancing in April, and I sure am loving it!!

I just went shopping for my first pair of dance shoes, and I realized that the sizes aren't what I expected. My size is 8D or wide, but the Capezio shoes I tried in wide widths were all much to narrow. The only shoe I could get to fit was a Luizo character shoe. (those are the only two brands availble at the store I checked out here in Toronto.)

Are there any other Ladies out there with wide feet that have discovered some stylin' shoes that fit a D or E width foot?

Thanks!!!

I am not 100% on the sizing, but you might want to see if Freed of London are available in your area to try the sizing.

I suffer from the wide-width shoe problem as well. With dancing shoes, it seem to be a bigger problem because they make the shoes so damn narrow. I ended up with lace-up, good old fashioned practice shoes from Capezio. Check dancesportshoes.com, they have the shoes divided into 'width' sections. I have also ordered shoes from celebrity that was wide enough for me.
What i was told was to stay away from mesh, straps etc. that would not stretch - you need leather at the front part of the shoe that will stretch.

The Freed of London website seems to be down, but I found the shoes at Zappos.com. They are only listing medium widths.....

Thanks, I did try on some practice shoes, but I was really hoping to find something a little bit "sexier".

Yes, i am with you on this. Keep us posted if you find something. Try the magicdanceshoes site, i am considering to order from them even at $130 plus shipping. Their return policy is not great, but i can understand why they are doing it.

Although they may be listing medium, the shape/cut of the shoe may be 'generous' and you might find that the width suits. Therefore, if you can try them, it is of course all the better. Then you can buy 10 pairs in all the various colours over the internet

I have a high arch (I think that is the correct term?) and for me, generally, straps going over the instep can be a problem. In addition, there is a particular pair of simple dance shoes that my feet LOVE. I have bought them repeatedly for about the past 5 years or so and in the only two colours they were made in  They are so comfortable, I have also worn them for work (and then practiced in the elevators  ). Recently, okay for about a year and a half now, possibly two years, the shop has been 'having difficulty' getting them in from their supplier in Spain. I actually heard on the grapevine that the shop has been in financial difficulty for about 2.5 years now :( Needless to say, I regret that I did not buy a few more pairs and put them away. Now though, when I do find a pair that my feet LOVE, I will be looking to take some of my own advice do exactly that

(I am not a long lost sister of Imelda Marcos, but at times like these, I could easily become a second cousin, twice removed  )

Pacion,

I am sure you mean well  . With my experience, medium-width shoes just don't cut it, especially ballroom shoes. I have ordered and tried many ballroom shoes which were supposedly wide medium-width shoes, they just don't fit.

cl5814 I have never bought ballroom dance shoes, I have only ever bought latin. Some cuts/styles work for me, some don't. I think in today's world/market, you just have to try and keep an open mind and keep trying shoes until you are sick of trying on shoes till you find something that works for you.

Otherwise, if you can afford it, then custom made isn't a bad idea.

Yes, i agree, as you know it is just such a frustrating process. :) :) If i end up ordering custom made shoes, it will probably be because i am at the point of desperation. I am not one for high heels either - i have the physical height, don't need more - making me more picky.

I don't even know if dancevision has them anymore. It's been quite a while. But they had a couple strappy, sandal styles of Ray Rose shoes that were advertised to be best for wider feet. when I get caught up here, I'll take a look and see if they still have anything left. At $49, it may be worth taking a chance on mail order.

Yup. They're still there, with various sizes, heel heights, and fabrics sold out. Your best bet is probably to call the company and talk to the really nice ladies that answer the phone. They can probably make recommendations.

Have a look at this shoe from Coast......... you can order an extra wide for $15 more. You can even select the heel height you want.

Has anybody here ever had Coast shoes? Just curious. I've been wondering about tham and how they compare to other dance shoe makers.

I have a pair of Coast court shoes with the elastic in the front to keep them close to the foot.

The quality of the shoe is fine. Well constructed, durable. The only thing I have against these shoes is that if my feet are swollen, the elastic pinches - a lot.

Don't know if other ladies have this problem with this type of shoe.

I have also bought shoes from Freed, Supadance and Glide, and have liked them all
