How do you do it. Just for example, you lead a certain pattern, but she does something else. Or you expect a duck, but don't get it. Or you miss a beat.
what do you do then? How do you "fix" it?
Depends. Maybe she did something else that I actually led by accident, without knowing the pattern, in which case I may ask her to do it again so I can figure it out. Maybe she didn't duck because she has low back pain.
In general I get us back on the correct foot, retreat to basics until we're in sync again, and either avoid that move again, or at worst maybe try it one more time being very careful to give clear leads.

Improvise. 8) 8) 8)
Some of the basic patterns can be great to catch her, if she lost the beat and position.
Beside that, you end up with at position and a handhold. Even though it’s not what you expected, you just go from there.

A little gentle laughter can help, too, as long as your partner doesn't get the impression you're laughing at them. Just with them.

Yup. Sometimes a smile, but always improvise, going with the flow... :)

If you are smooth and keep the flow, then often they don’t even notice they did something unexpected. 8)

Being on the recieving end of stuffed up leads...even if they are smooth I notice, usually I just keep the basic timing with little thought as to exactly what my feet are doing, I just concentrate on getting to where Im being lead without losing balance or the smoothness...half the time I dont think the lead even notices , This is more in the latin though, I find standard to be a little more difficult because the steps are essential to your direction.
I have gotten thru many a samba that way..I just cant refuse a samba even though I know so little
I often dance with some one who takes great pleasure in leading me into things I have no clue on, and half the time when I ask what he is doing he laughs and relpies "I dont know".
He is one of my favorites to dance with though, Its so much fun!
