:gulp: I've definitely been guilty of writing off as snobs people who turned out to be shy.
I'd add to the article that leading involves a lot of listening, too.
I enjoyed reading. Thanks for sharing!

Haha! I comment there -- I didn't want to reference this site and have it be flooded, but I was tempted. :-)

I love it! Thanks for sharing. My favorite part:
Paying attention to physical cues, as one is expected to do when dancing, helped me be better at reading the unsaid things people are communicating that had been obscured by years of living in a state of general urban paranoia and, by default, just assuming that everyone in the world wants to rob me or get me fired.

And in spite of its retro sensibilities, there's benefit to be found in learning to "follow," because learning to "follow" is actually another form of learning how to listen.
I really like that line; it touches a chord with me. I had never really though about following as listening. There are some guys I find easier to follow than others, and perhaps that's just because I'm not "listening" as well to what the others are saying. I'll have to keep this in mind.

I want to share this funny thing with you; ever since I started my private classes instead of saying "I didn't understand your leading" I always tell my teacher "I didn't hear you" or "I didn't hear what you said". Funny isnt' it? It just shows you how much spot on the article is!

Yes a great article. Going to put at least a link on my own web sit!
Type of article that has things in it that " strike a chord" .
For me it was :
""dancing" to most people between the ages of 18 and 35, means going to a club and gyrating"
I could never ,can't, do that kind of dancing.
