View Full Version : Deciphering a Vanity Plate

On the road today, I noticed a car (white BMW sedan, CA) with this license plate: 4VRTNGO
My first thought was "vertigo". But that doesn't have an "N".
I was wondering if the plate might be dance-related. For V(irtual) R(eality) TaNGO...hmmm...
Any ideas?

I think Forever Tango is right. That is the name of a famous dance performance show.

Related question: Does anybody here have or has anybody seen interesting/catchy dance-related vanity tags?

Catchy? Meh, not so much: "RUMBA" and "DANZER".
Passenger plates here are limited to 7 letters and / or numbers and the numbers have come after letters, so 22TANGO would not be acceptable but TANGO22 would be.

I've seen 'QWKSTEP'.

Cool! I've wondered what your license plate was about, Joe. Now I know. :-D
I'm tempted to get WLTZ4VR now!

Very cool. Go for it. Make sure to pick some alternate spellings, though. You'd be surprised how many license plate combinations are already claimed.

DMV here has an interactive Web site where one can plug in plate spellings and it will tell you if a spelling is already taken. Not sure if it screens out inappropriate messages - they used to have humans screen all the apps.
I saw one really interesting one in Florida - guess the screeners either didn't get it or didn't care.

Do you do WCS? Cause I could swear I've seen your car at a WCS place I frequent during the school year.
I assume you mean Cherry Hill. Let's just say I dabble.

I do! I've always liked your license plate and was a little jealous that you had it already because it means I can't have it.
Sorry! There's always WTVFQ2...

Or I could go WTVQ and just leave out the foxtrot... nobody likes foxtrot anyways... just kidding, it's just been the bane of my standard existence lately.
I just went to get plates for my "new" car yesterday and was going to get something cool but they didn't even give me the chance to choose and just handed me random plates. I was a little sad, but it probably saved me some money.

I don't know about MD, but in PA, where I had vanity plates, you had the option to replace the random issue plates with custom ones at any time, for a fee.

Yeah, I'm thinking about it. $50 a year isn't too bad for personalized plates.

Just for comparison, Illinois personalized plates (must be 7 characters and end with a number) are $78 per year, vanity plates (up to 3 numbers or up to 7 letters) are $123 per year. That might be in addition to the regular annual renewal fee, not sure.

I think it is $50 additional, but my parents are paying the registration fee already so I'd just have to pay the vanity plate price if I wanted them. Now deciding what to get is the hard part...

Mine is DANSEUR.. French for male dancer. I had it on one of my dump trucks for awhile and recently transferred it to my car.
