I noticed that there are outdoor milongas in NYC in a few venues - esp. curious about the Central Park Tango on Saturdays.
Are there DF'ers who frequent these - would you recommend any of this (esp. Central Park event) as good to visit while in NYC?

Yes. The Saturday milonga in Cental Park moves to a nearby area with a roofed patio if it rains. An Argentine woman sells empanadas. Occasionally a bandoneonist will show up to play. The dj is usually someone who actually dj's at regular milongas.
There is a Sunday milonga at Union Square park. Occasional live music & performers. Much of the dancing takes place in the pavilion (that's where the sound system is, so it sounds better) & in the event of rain, all the dancing is in the pavilion. The DJ is usually someone who dj's at a practica.
There is dancing on Wednesday at pier 84. Very nice atmosphere, beautiful sunset, nice cool breeze. The floor is a wooden pier, so not as bad as dancing on concrete or stone. The neighborhood is not touristy, but out of towners describe this area of Greenwich village as "interesting". Look for Volvo Tango for info on this & for other NYC milongas @ this link. The DJ is the organizer who is basically playing tunes from his playlist.

The outdoor milongas attract some people who only dance AT occasionally, and others who seem to view stage AT as a their preferred dance style, but there are others who go after a practica or before attending an evening milonga & just can't get enough tango.

Thanks tangobro! I'm there from Thu-Sun for the salsa congress, but I'm hoping to get in a little breeze of AT. I'll check out the newyorktango.com website to see what I'd be able to fit in.

I love Central Park. I've got to check one of these out the next time that I am in the New York City area...

I went to the Central Park Milonga and it was fun! Very good turnout and friendly dancers. Skill level was mostly beginners (which suited me fine) - I'll look forward to it again in future NYC trips!
