Hello All, I'm sure you get this plenty in these forums, but I really need some help. I've got a girlfriend who loves to dance at clubs and bars; mainly dancing to rap or whatever they are playing.

I want to dance so bad but I look like an injured animal on the dance floor. She doesn't know this yet so I want to learn with out her knowing and just kind of surprise her. I did mention to her about signing up for a dance lessons class for a type of dance that she nor i know that way we can learn together. I was thinking tango or salsa.

What do you all think i should do about the classes for her and I along with my struggle with dancing in clubs.

Are there any places I can get tips or anything like that on club dancing. It's not that I'm looking for particular dance moves for the clubs, i just don't want to look stupid. Please help me!

Also, I'm not to computer savvy. Could anyone tell me where I could take some hip hop or R&B style dance lessons in the central ohio area?
I know they are out there, i just don't know where to look.

Now that's what I like to hear. A man who's willing to learn how to dance, just to be with his girl. Believe it or not, just that willingness to learn will get you many, many brownie points. You don't even have to look good on the floor. Honest.

About lessons, I'm not sure what towns are in Central Ohio and my atlas is nowhere nearby, so try dancespots.net. It has a dance instrution listing that's searchable by zip code. Come on back here is you can't fin anything, okay? 8)

And welcome to the forums. :D

pygmalion, i can't thank you enough for your reply. Your support alone is motivation enough to continue on my quest for dancing skills.

about the girl. . . your right. I'd do anything, including making a fool of myself while learning to dance, just to keep her. When i mentioned the couples dance classes (tango or salsa, also open to recomendations, seeking a good beginner dance) she just sighed and said it was so sweet.

Maybe dancing is the way to a girls heart? lol

Talk to you later,

jshting: Where in central Ohio are you? I know that Columbus has a pretty decent dance scene. I have lived in akron and there is some good dancing there and especially in cleveland.

Nah - but being sweet is ;)

I'd reccomend salsa over tango, for finding your groove on the club dancefloor.

Cheers

Talking of salsa and tango...I just discovered that I can do a very close hold in salsa easily due to my AT experience. I agree that salsa should be done, for the reason that Sarah said, and as tango is a harder dance.

I also recommend Salsa!

Btw, I am going to take my first AT lesson on Sunday! Wish me luck!

I live in Columbus, Ohio. Akron is quite a drive from where I'm living at. Thanks for the tip!

Sabor, Thanks so much for that. You all have been a great help not only in my choosing of dance (I'm seeking a good salsa dance instructor now!) but in my motivation. It's nice to speak with people who are so kind and helpful. :D

Maybe some day, I can be of some help to you all

I appreciate your comment, I doubt she'll ever see it but I'm pretty sure she knows that I feel that way. I'll keep you all posted as this progresses. Who knows, maybe someday I will be a good dancer and get to help others on this message board!
