Here in Australia, group lessons cost between $8 and $15. I pay about $8 for group ballroom lessons and between $12 and $15 for tango and salsa. What's the going rate in your neck of the woods.
Also, how much are socials? Argentine Tango milongas vary depending on if there's food, between $10 and $15, whereas ballroom socials are between $10 and $15. Salsa nights are generally free (the organisers make money on drinks), unless there's a great band (or a few bands) playing.

Our studio has groups for $12 and the weekly parties are around $10, including nibbles and softdrink or punch (depending on the occassion). From what I have seen, latin club nights are generally around the $10 cover charge.

Prices are similar here in the SF Bay Area, although in US$. Given the exchange rate I think we're a little better off (although really it should be converted into equivalent purchasing power - how many loaves of bread are equal to a dance lesson? :-)

group Salsa lessons vary between Euro 12 and Euro 32 (the most expensive is the worst teacher...).
we have no events, just one club we go to, and the entrance is free on Thursdays and Euro 2.5 on Fridays and Saturdays

Our group classes generally cost $10-$12. Our weekly parties are $5 but do not include food or drinks (just water).

How much do I WANT to pay, or how much do I pay? Two different questions. LOL.
Around here, dance socials range from the weekly tea dance at a senior center for US$3 to the public ballroom dance at US$9. Almost everything is in that range, except the weekly milonga, which is US$15. I think that's the usual "dance" fee added to the nightclub's cover charge, since the milonga is held at a nightclub (and the people running it aren't likely to cut their own prices   )

Oh yeah. Groups classes run around $8 - $10 each. Bottom line. If it's $10 or less, I consider the price fair. If it's more, I want to understand why before I pay.

Group classes here at the studio I attend are just five dollars. The open dance parties are six dollars - more if it is a special theme; seven or eight dollars. Last NYE was twenty bucks.
The class and dance given by the local WCS club is $5.00, unless you are member then it's three dollars (yearly membership is $25.00)
The Lindy dances given monthly are seven dollars if the music is live and five dollars if DJ'd with a class given just prior.
USABDA charges five dollars for members and eight for non-members at the local dances; there is a three dollar discount if you bring a snack for the dessert potluck.

Groups classes - 3-5 pounds for a 1-hour lesson.
Social dancing - from free to 8 pounds.
The 8-pound monthly puts on free snacks and a couple of shows (dance or music) and is now reducing the price to 6 pounds. most other socials that charge door are in the 3-4 pounds range. Some of the regular clubs where you can dance for free also have free drop-in salsa classes early in the evening. These free clubs are not exclusively dance-oriented venues, and I suspect dancing is there as a sort of free entertainment to attract non-dancing drinking/dining crowds with a taste for latin music.

Interesting. It seems that, at least of the people who've checked in, the cost is roughly the same, once you make the currency conversion. Hmm.
