What are your favorite gifts to buy for someone in general?.. i know it depends on the kind of relationship u have with them, but if we talk in general terms, what do u find yourself favoring when buying decent gifts to both men and women?

I usually find out their favorite cologne or perfume and purchase for them. :D

I usually give them photos of myself

It depends. The mischievous person in me likes to wrap what ever it is several times  oops, I should not be telling you that  . I use inexpensive paper, sometimes even newspaper and then cover it with pretty paper, then maybe put that in a box/bag, followed by another one

I also like the idea of making things, if possible. About three years ago, for Christmas, I helped my sister to make a set of gift vouchers for her husband. (My brother-in-law and I have a 'special' relationship  as in, we do drive each other mad  ). I asked him recently about it and he was laughing about the whole thing still.

From recollection, he was 'given' 12 or 24 vouchers I think. They included things like having dinner cooked for him, going out to the movies, having a foot/back massage, taking my sister away for a weekend (rather than she taking him away  ) - it was stuff they did anyway, but the fun was in him trying to 'spend his vouchers' especially as there were conditions to the vouchers - some were standard, others varied . The conditions were things like 24 hours notice had to be given (my sister used to work very long hours) or they couldn't be used during certain months such as his birthday, their wedding anniversary etc. They also had 'expiry dates' except the one about taking my sister away for a weekend  which was valid indefinitely

Otherwise, I try to give something that the person would really like and not be a 'dust ornament' :? :D If they like plants, I love giving one called 'peace lily'. It has large leaves and produces this beautiful white flower :D

You're a very thoughtful person. I appreciate gifts made or where a lot of thought went into the gift - like the gift certificates - a lot more than just something that would collect dust, as you mentioned.

Thank you cl5814. Yes, the 'gift vouchers' were a definite success

The first thing that popped into my mind was flowers! And then chocolates! And then special somethings that I just know the person will love!

Most of these things usually go to a significant other, and since I'm just recently unattached, it has become disaapointing not to be able to give such gifts. It feels like a withdrawal from gift giving syndrome. :(

Yeah, I know, kind of silly, but somewhere in such truth there is beauty, too!

I'm just recently unattached, my birthday's only 3 weeks away, and I love flowers and chocolates (and love receiving gifts)... :(

Can't say I'm good at choosing gifts. I usually ask the person what s/he would like. No surprises then, but no disappointments either.

Sometimes the sweetest gift can be a gift to oneself -- an afternoon of peace and quiet, or a lunch out with friends you haven't seen in a while... 8)

Or doing something entirely new such as taking a day's holiday and going to a new city  Three years ago, the Eurostar were doing a really great day fare to Paris (about 2.5hrs on the train) so, I arranged my taxi for the early train (train was leaving at 6.30am in the morning   ), got my purse and passport and off I went. It was one of the best presents I ever gave myself and did it again the following year. Went to Paris earlier in the year last year so didn't do the day trip thing but will be trying to do it again this year

"I love Paris in the Spring Time, I love Paris in the Fall, I love Paris, why do I love Paris, because my heart is there" :together:

Well ... I could send you a birthday card! My gift giving would be at least partially resolved and you'd get something for your birthday! Woohooh! :)

Food that I make for them- a cake, tray of cookies, etc. For my party animal friends, drinks one night, or dinner(or both), little things I know they will appreciate like a nice piece of jewelry that, when I first saw, I thought of them, a really rare bottle of wine, rare food items that I bring back from my vacations, etc.
