I read ages ago, that when you use the phrase "I believe" you are using your intuition/intuitive self but when you say "I think", you have gone through a mental thought process to come to the conclusion/end result you made.

I used to use the two phrase quite often, both verbally and in writing, but using "I believe" more - about 70% of the time. Now I find that I write/say "I think" a whole lot more, like 99% of the time. :|

"I think" that I need to start using "I believe" more  :D I am getting too serious :|

PS. Apparently some people find "I think" to be more authoritative then "I believe" :|

PSS. You can tell I am not particularly happy that I use "I think" a lot more now

Definitely I believe. It is coming from the heart, versus from the analytical head :D  :D

I think that what I just read is not what either of you meant to say.
Therefore, would you both please clarify what you were saying, so that I can truly believe that what you are saying is what you meant to be saying.

I like to think that I am precise, if sometimes unorthodox in my use of language.

I tend to use 'I believe' to acknowledge the possibility I may have been misinformed by a trusted external source. I tend to use 'I think' where the possibility is that it is the conclusions I have personally made that are wrong.
I don't see what the problem with running your intuitive ideas through a few consious thought processes before expressing them with an 'I think'. In fact I think ;) that its something a few mor people could profit by doing.

Cheers
Sarah

I believe "I think" is an expression of one's speculation, whereas I think "I believe" implies personal conviction.

Hey! You left "I feel" out of the equation. (As in Qestion: "How do you feel about that?" Answer: "I think ...") It happens all the time.

I don't think I use "I feel" much :( or I give either a straight "Yes" or "No" or a "Yes or No"

As a Librian, believe it or not, I try to be decisive, as Librians have a reputation for being indecisive (unless you are Margaret Thatcher!), I think :D

I know that you won't believe me when I say I don't often think about this stuff!
