View Full Version : Men's Facial Expressions

I really love to dance, and secondly, I love to watch. Dancing!

I usually can learn a move or pattern just by watching someone (the lead) execute it. Lately, I have been watching the men who lead (so does my wife ), and I've been noticing the facial expression of them right after they do a "cool" pattern or move.

It goes like this:
They complete the move . . . they look back at the woman, right into her eyes, with a look of "Wasn't that just the greatest move you ever done?"
Or, "God, I'm so da*n good." "Huh, what do you think, Baby?"

I literally have been cracking up lately. Are men that vain? And it's not just one or two - it's most men!

Just so you know . . . what made me watch men??? I've been learning to following and have been doing it much more these days . . . mainly so I can teach both parts of a WCS. So, I've been watching . . . plus the fact that I've really acquired some body language stuff that I never knew existed . . . especially when watching the Pros' real closely.

Oh yes, the women do it too - some of them - but they da*n well deserve too after being "forced" into some of those moves that I've been seeing.

Anyone else ever catch this or other "quirks?"

Hi Vince,

Haven't paid much attention to what you describe, but I have noticed how some leaders in competition use body language and motion to draw attention to the follower. I have also been watching to see other stylistic approaches used by the leaders. Kind of interesting to watch and I'll be on the look for facial expressions now that you mentioned it.

I can very easily understand being happy when a successfully executing and new move (both leading or following) I think of it as a happy relization not too far removed from "Look Mom, no hands!"

it's nice to have those "ahh yeah" moments when it all works.

I think if I was being monitored you would see a big grin from ear to ear most of the time.

And what I am thinking while grinning thusly and looking in to my partner's eyes is:

"Was that as good for you as it was for me?"

"That was FUN! YEAH!"

"MORE, MORE!"

"Don't stop! Let's do that again!"

"Let's try something new."

Yeah... I see guys out on the floor with those big ear to ear grins who just look like they are enjoying the whole thing immensly. It's those guys I hope to get a dance with by the end of the meeting. They have a joy that is totally in the moment and fun.

I like seeing the look of approval after I actually follow something. You know, that kind of nod like "all right! you did it!"

You see all sorts of expressions on my face. If the floor is dirty and I have suede bottoms you might think I was being put through a wringer!! Please don't take it personally. When you can feel pebbles underfoot with sude bottoms they feel like rocks.

When I'm into a song I'm alive. I smile, I wink, I flirt, I grin, I'm transported into another dimension. :)

ditto!!! That is THE BEST for me!!! As a newbie I spend most of the time wondering if the guy is hating the dance... when I get that little smile saying, "yeah, that was good... we did well" I feel sooooooooooooo good!

This isn't really a facial expression, but a cool comment that goes along with, more than likely, a good facial expression. Anyway, I've been going to Colorado when I can. Well, the follows seem to have a habit of vocalizing their appreciation when the lead does something really neat or nails the music. "Nice" seems to be the majority phrase. It's nice, simple, and shows appreciation. So, I try saying something when something really sweet happened on the follow's part.

Oooohhhhhh, that's excellent! I *love* guys who say "nice" whenever I do something that they thought was cool or a good display of following on my part. It seems to be the choice word these days among leads (as well as follows - I use it, too!) A smile and a "niiiccee" - it's very simple and to the point. 8) While I highly appreciate a person who smiles when we dance, I appreciate those who actually communicate joy double that to the umpteenth power!

(Whenever I am not smiling all of the time during a dance...) I usually smile when:
- they do an ubercool move
- something interesting happens in the music
- when i feel they need encouragement
- when they smile
- just to let them know i am having fun!

I also really try to pay attention to the guys facial expressions in order to learn what sort of things he likes and doesn't like. For example, I usually at some point test a lead to see if he likes a follow who "plays". Although, sometimes it's kinda difficult to read smiles - sometimes they clearly mean, "Sweeet! More, please" :D ... but other times it is hard to distinguish between "that was interesting!" and "that was, ummmm, interesting...", because sometimes people smile when they are nervous or don't know what to think... tricky, tricky :?

You know the "game faces" men make when they're really in the zone? the horrible, twisted expressions like Valenzuela does all through Dance with Me? Like they're trying to fell a mighty beast with nothing but a nail file?

I.. think... those... are... just... dead... SEXAY.

Totally in the zone, focused on dancing well, high on the scent of their own dance vibes. Yeah, makes a chubby gal wanna sweat some :P

When I introduced this thread, I didn't expect too read the positve comments from you followers. So, from "a leader" to you . . .
"THANK YOU."
From one who also follows . . . I've learned something . . .
"NICE."
