My 86 yr old Granddad has passed away and I have been asked to get together the music for his service. My granddad was a weekly participant in Old Time dancing, the only information re music I have been given is "Breakaway Blues" and "Gypsy Tap". Correct me if I am wrong please, but these are dances???, If so can someone PLEASE tell me what music, artist are these linked too. Thankyou so much for your help and advice.
Regards
Sheryl

Welcome to df sheryl. My condolences. It would have been great to welcome you during happier times, but I'm glad that you have joined us, and hope that you will stay with us for teh long haul. I'm a young 'un myself, and so I don't know much about old time dancing. But indeed both "Breakaway Blues" and "Gypsy Tap" are dances, as confirmed by google searches. In fact they are modern sequence dances, that are called New Vogue and are commonly practiced in Australia, New Zealand and other places. I know we have dfers from down there so they might know more about this. What info I have found is below...and hopefully this is a good start for you.

For BalmoralBlues /Breakaway Blues you could play.... Bye bye blues – Hamm/Bennett, Blue velvet – Wayne/Morris

For gypsy tap the steps are shown here...http://www.dancesport.org.au/newvogue/gypsytap.html

And heres a thread on New Vogue Music (http://www.dance-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=3480&highlight=New+Vogue+Music) that could be of some help. From that thread you can see MadamSamba and Shydancer are two members who could help you. Try contacting them.
