Well I just got back and what can I say I had a amazing weekend. this was my first nationals and i wasnt looking to do well in the pro division. my partner and I were only going becuase I had a student there and to get experience. This was also a big weekend because I was going to propose to my partner while we were there. I'll start with the dancing first. We were in 5 divisions novice(foxtrot swing) and we took second. Then were were in novice mixed(vw, bolero) we took 6th. Then closed bronze and silver smooth (ft vw w t) we took 4th. then it was pre champ( rumba mambo tango open) heres the big shock,, we took first! we won a division. lastly we were in closed bronze and silver rhythm and took 3rd. those 4 dances were rumba, cha cha, swing and mambo. What a weekend. To top it off when I asked her she said yes!!!!!!!!! i'm so happy.

Yay, what a successful weekend!

I'm a little confused, though -- which organization's Nationals was this?

Glad to hear everything went so well for you mr bixx!!! :D

Just out of curiosity, the results you mention, are those with your student or with your partner?

Thanks for the clarification Mr. Bixx. Not being familiar with the FADS circuit I wasn't clear on what those divisions represented for you. Congratulations, again, on all of your successes! :D

First, congratulations! I'm glad everything worked out!

Not to steal your thread, but your comp results also appear to reveal something very interesting about the FADS system - it would appear that there is "syllabus" like competition offered for pros. If I am actually understanding this correctly, I think FADS should receive a lot of credit for giving their developing teachers a real path into trying competition. As far as I can tell, the world at large offers only two pro proficiency levels, which would seem to really limit the opportunities for rank&file teachers to do anything other than teach and dance with students, wheras offering a greater variety of levels seems like a good way for the organization to take care of (and give a little bit back to) its employees.

Congratulations!!!

May you have more victories, and a long conciously loving marriage.

I wish you both the very best!

Congrats on both the engagement and the comp.

It would seem like FADS has a good system to allow its teachers to get comp experience without get slaughter on the rs/open circuit. I think it a good thing to allow pros to go through a similar comp system to pro/am students ( and would that make them better at competing with their students?)

You're right, Chris. Only on occassion have I seen one more level squeezed before Rising Star (in the NDCA world), and that was Professional Gold Star duing at least one SoCal competition.

I believe the Arthur Murray circuit has a professional "Future Champions" category, that is a notch below Rising Star.

Congrats on your progress, Mr. Bixx

I don't remember Porfirio, was that the sylabus event for Pros I remember hearing about? The one where only one couple was willing to display the quality of their basics? :?

As people have brought up in the past, us west coasters don't comply with syllabus categories really well; we jump right into the open divisions as soon as we can afford costumes ;)

Fads offers the Pro competitor an opportunity to compete at a very early stage in their teaching/dancing careers by offering restricted syllabus comps in the Bronze and Silver levels. The Novice teacher is allowed to compete at higher levels ie:Mixed/Novice, Rising Star, etc. to gain experience but the Advanced Teacher is not allowed to dance "back."

Hi zdance1. Welcome. :D

I'd heard that about FADS. Looks like a nice set-up for less experienced teachers. 8)
