What I am trying to find out is dancing expensive and/or does that apply more so for the competitor or the one who does it for hobby? Also what terms allow you to deduct taxes when you take lessons? Is there any insurance that will pay for dance lessons or dance outlets? Is dance considered a medicine or treatment for any diseases? Has dancing ever been a recognized spiritial outlet? And if so what organization caused this observation to be recognized?

The real root of this question is trying to understand what the average person is looking for through dance. And part of the root is the extent a person is willing to go to dance. Time/money/Effort/Desire are all factors but the focus of this question is on the money issue which in reality no matter how you look at it or justify seems to always relate to the spiritual. So how much is dance and what does it do for your Karma/soul/purpose?

I do not compete... but I would galdly pay for it... whatever it takes (if I can afford it...)
I paid a lot on classes, clothing, taxis to go back home, food (had to eat out) drinks (a womna's gotta drink...), dance shoes... you name it, I paid for it!

When I go to competitions it is extremly expensive. Well lets see...

Costume: $50-$100 (per costume)
Food: $20
Make-up: $20
Ride (either with gas or Taxi): $20
Bottles of water: $10
Admission: $35

and then there is the money you have to pay for just being into the darn thing!

Usually like
$50 for a solo
$100 for a duo (per person)
$120 for a trio (per person)
and for a big production group it's usually $70 (per person)

I dont know though...It depends ALOT on the company and what kind of dance your doing! But you know how I look at it...dancing means so much to me that I would do it at ANY cost....affordable of course...but trust me....any cost! hope I helped!

tinydancer and Chris bring up a good point, between them. It depends on what kind of dance do you plan to do? Ballet is different than swing is different than C&W. So exactly what kind of dance do you have in mind?
