I don't know if this can be said to be true in general, but I believe that for me it was good to have learned to do different dances from a studio rather then just one particular dance and become so "indoctrinated" in just that one style that it may have been more difficult to learn another.
Do you feel that you have also benefitted from learning different styles or has knowing only one helped or hindered when wanting to learn another?

Good to know more then one dance because then one has more dancing opportunities. I felt that I benefited more from knowing more then one dance style whenever learning a new one than being hindered.

I learned every dance within the first couple of months I started thanks to college group classes ( and no i'm not in college), and it has proven to be a great thing. I compete in 3 dance styles and I have the choice to go back and forth in between what I want to do. I know of some people that are advanced in say rhythm but when asked to do a int' rumba only know 1 or 2 moves, and I just prefer to be familiar with every dance and style.
