Hi, I'm new here, but I need some help!
Dance is the most important thing to me in the world - except my family ....... etc. I do lots of dance according to most people, but that is of my own interest.
One of my best friends does one more type of dance than me - but not all our dances are the same - and one more club than me. Why do I feel jealous? I really don't mean or want to. It's just sometimes, it feels like she shows off about it and makes me feel low. I don't want out friendship to get ruined, because she is the only person who has so much in common with me and I really like that.
Please help!

Welcome to DF, Shiva Diva.
Don't worry about little things like that. There will always be people that dances more (and less ) than you. The best thing is that you have someone who shares your passion for dance. To be jealous can be a good thing because it will motivate you to dance more, but don't let the jealousy turn the other nasty way.
In any case, now you are part of the DF family and we (most) are all dance addicts in our own way.

Shiva Diva, firstly, welcome to DF!
In response to your question, jealousy/envy are natural emotions. Are you sure it is only for the reasons you have mentioned though?
The best way I can think of to answer you question is to share this with you, note particularly the lines I have bolded. Best of luck.
Desiderata
Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

Welcome to df shiva diva. I'm into street latin. I do salsa, rueda, cha cha, merengue, bachata, and try to do cumbia and forro. I started learning Argentine tango last month. I also know zydeco, and can do a little ECS.
Rhumba American style I don't like, but if a person's willing to do the few international steps I know I'm up for it. I know a little foxtrot and American tango. I've done some contra dancing, though it ain't my thing. I do folk dancing now and then. One of these days I plan to try two step when I go somewhere where it is done. :)

Hi and welcome shiva,
I'm in to hiphop, tap dancing, jazz, ballet and one of my favs. is tumbling(not really dance though). I also learned salsa and merengue from my family growing up. I am also a new member to DF. But I started dancing at 16 and I am now turning 18, so it really hasn't been that long. But about your friend you should really take the others advice. I have a situation thats nearly the same But me and the other guy are not friends.

Welcome, shiva!
You have no reason to worry about how many dances you do...
I do Salsa, Rueda de Casino, Merengue, Bachata, Street Cha Cha... and that's about it!
How many dances you know does not make you a good dancer... it's how well you dance something that should matter!

Hi,
I do tap, jazz and kathak. I also go to a dance club once a week. I used to learn ballet, but my teacher got athiritis or something similar and couldn't teach anymore.
Also, recently I have found that when it comes to choreographing a dance I find it very fun and easy. I can spend hours at a time dancing and not realise thinking it's only been 10 minutes.
I haven't really heard of almost all of the dances you all do, but now that I have I'm sure I'll keep hearing or seeing them somewhere.
