Yen's getting pretty weak these days. It's a drag when you're buying dollars!

tsb
07-08-2005, 06:25 AM
we're definitely in uncharted waters. the big dogs (commerical banks, etc.) went LONG (bought expecting the dollar to weaken) a while back but the dollar has continued to strengthen against the pound. then yesterday the EURO spiked a cent from 1.19 up to 1.20 while the pound dropped almost a cent in the other direction (they almost always move in the same direction). the euro gave that cent back a few hours later (missed both moves too ^%$#@!) but still it's just TOO weird for words.

non farm payroll data announcement (historically the BIGGEST announcement in terms of what influences price movement) comes up in a little over two hours. there's usually very little movement the night before. tonight, the pound dropped another half cent & is now challenging 1.736 (which i caught, yay) and a 1.5 cents in the last 24 hours and i don't think anybody can tell you what's going on. if anything i would have expected the pound to move back towards 1.75 in light of the terrorist activity...

She actually taught how to step, and taught the basic turns. My other salsa teachers (all 3 of them) just kind of gave the moves and left me stumbling around. I felt pretty solid out there today.

did you dance with the tall brunette? she's a brass player, of all things: euphonium & trombone & lists the same area code as you. she might be coming to my party saturday so i suggested she might be able to carpool with you.

we should consider going to luminarias after the granada on sundays.

I don't think I danced with her. It would be ok with me if she wants to carpool. But my area code used to cover a pretty vast area so she may not be anywhere near me.---After googling I guess she does live close.

With work the next day and my travel time I probably won't want to do Luminarias. If I don't have work the next day, sure.

that was actually the topic of conversation that kept my last guests talking until 4:30 am. (i have to admit i dozed off a couple of times and they were probably waiting for me to wake up so they could leave!)

the salseros were all complaining about the results of dating within the salsa pool - (i have previously gone on record as stating that dating within the salsa scene is about as risky as eating seafood caught in the santa monica bay - between the untreated sewage & the mercury levels - yuck) - the salseros who actually pursued ballroom found that the demographics at the common venues tended towards 50+ which left them being the youngest people there. my experience has been that the younger women who go tend to be pursued by all the dirty old men so they stop going. once they find younger (?) guys who are decent ballroom dancers - they want to be escorted.

now, what i've found to be odd is that most of these women will not respond to a group email for a dance outing but are usually readily available if i contact them individually. the problem then is that they're not necessarily proficient in all the dances i like - so i try to invite a couple more women (or if they have friends who are coming with them) so i have to get enough guys to come along to deal with the overflow...

Hmmm. If I had to wake up to go to work, then those were grumpy days. Irritable is probably a better word for it. If I get to sleep in then it's not a grumpy day. Something about the weather (hot) and summer, and dancing, exploring salsa, is messing with my sleep schedule a bit. And I'm finding it difficult to sleep or even go to bed. But that's only a couple of times during the week. Of course dancing on the weekend keeps me up, which is fine.

O.K., as much as I hate to admit it, i'm having insomnia problem big time! Maybe it's just that I'm having a hard time adjusting my biological clock in the summer?? I wake up whenever the sun gets up so that leaves me about 6 hrs of sleep a day (and no, i'm not the kind of person that can survive with less than 8 hrs of sleep!)....so most of the days i just walk (or drive) around half asleep.....

Oh no! I'm dedicated and fairly consistent, but not that crazy. If I wake up in the middle of the night (which I do most nights) I'll log in for anywhere between a few minutes (if I'm sleepy) to about half an hour (if I'm not sleepy.)

But, most days these days, I'm not in DF very much. Yesterday was exceptional, for a couple reasons. But, most days, I log in four times -- in the middle of the night, first thing in the morning, in the evening when I first get home, and after dinner. Anywhere between a few minutes and maybe half hour each time. That's plenty to check in, see what's up, post a dozen things, and keep going. 8) About an hour a day, total. It just seems like more because I can post like crazy, when I'm in. :D

It's going well, I think. I don't go to comps often--the last time was 3 years ago. So I know I'm dancing a heck of a lot better than I did then. And my look on the floor is better--more up-too-date, etc. I'm still nervous, though. I switched teachers this year--at least for this comp, and my comfort level is not quite as high with my new teacher as with my old teacher. My new teacher is more up-to-date with everything, though--he goes to comps often with his other students, so I feel he's prepared me well. And I've taken as many lessons as I could afford (3 per week the past month--4 this week!).
I did get back to sleep after my husband left for work. The insomnia's really going to hit next week, I think! I think I missed you by an hour or so.

What happened to your toe? :( :?

About 5 years ago the nerve in the big toe rubbed against the bone and got irritated/inflamed. It got worse and worse and eventually I was relagated to one of those scooters that you see old people using all the time. I eventually recovered, but ahve to keep my eye on this. If I start feeling irritation I back off stressing my feet. Thsi time however, I think I've been doing too much with my moving, plus all the extra dancing...and so it got worse. I'm moved now, plus I cut back all particpation in performances so hopefully things will get better sooner rather then later.

Ugh! I though the antibitoics were working? Are you still feeling bad? :(

Slept fittfully, but didn't wake up long enough to check in. *shrug* :?

I don't know why the cough is persisting, I'll have to go to a check up this week - but at least I'm not congested anymore or wheezing (that was the worst!)

Maybe allergy?? I used to cough non-stop for months and I thought i had tuberculosis or something....up until i figured out it's actually allergy....

africana
08-08-2005, 12:26 PM
yeah tht was the original diagnosis, allergy that was causing asthma attacks. but then I was told it was bronchitis caused by a bacterial infection, which I thought made sense because I'd never had allergies or ashtma, ever, and the breathing problems did stop a weeka go aftter the antibiotic treatment...
But I think it's back to the doctor to straighten this out, it's annoying when I'm out socially and I keep hacking away...

Does drinking warm water help?? I remember it helped me a little, i used to drink tons of hot water when i was in the office - so to calm the coughing down a bit.

I'm not coughing this morning but I'm drinking some warm cocoa/cappuccino mix right now. Next time it happens at night I'll go some hot tea, thanks for the suggestion!

 Not yesterday, that's for sure!

Don't you ever go to bed?

i would have except there was an announcement which prompted a rise in the pound. i caught most of it before i went to bed.

Have I ever had a 30 dollar dinner? I think at the Outback Steakhouse once.
My company ( you understand) paid for it at that convention we all were talking about yesterday.

2:23 am. My salsa night was not so great an experience, though I had a few nice dances. But I learn something everytime and dance better everytime and it's only a matter of time before I figure it out.

2:13am my time...I'm up because I'm still getting my stuff together so I can go watch Nationals. I've got a taxi coming to pick me up at 6am.

I really hate travelling to the east from California. Between the distance and the time change and having to change planes, it just takes freakin' forever.

another good day of trading - gbp broke 1.8000 - i think 1.85 by october is quite reasonable - and you heard it here at least a month ago while gbp was plunging towards 1.73...

Oh my gosh! I had such a good time tonight with salsa. :bouncy: The connections and passion. It was a club more reminiscent of when I visited Peru or Costa Rica. They didn't think they were too good for me. They just wanted to dance expressively like I did. This is why I got into dancing in the first place. And DF has been so helpful. Even Matrix's advice was very helpful tonight.

Looks like things picked up a lot this morning, after I left. Good. Long, quiet nights in DF are supposed to be a thing of the past, IMO. 8)

Well..back from dancing. After using my toes on my feet I feel my right one a teeny bit, but compared to not using it for so long me am happy. This is good progress. Good practice.

Thanks. They were very into the connection, flirting, lots of wiggling on both sides, communication. Everything I love about dance.

I'm gonna feel awfully silly getting 4 hours of sleep on Wednesdays.

Problems?

Have clothes in the dryer. They are damp and so I put them in for another half an hour. :( If I didn't have my sheets in there I woudl have gone to bed. Also just finished updating my finances and my expenditures of the week. Whiling away time now...whiling away time...

1:18 a.m. here... went to a different salsa club than my regular one for Friday nights. Much better floor and more room... but far fewer dance partners too. :?
