LOL... been there, done that! Go to reread something from a few days before and have one of those "Huih? What was I even trying to say?" moments...

That remains to be seen. My ideal deadline will be early June but, depending on a *lot* of variables, may have to be sometime over the summer. The only real trick now is figuring out how to win the lottery so that I don't have to finish up while living in a cardboard box... :?we always have room for an extra pet:cool:

Watching curling? Can you elucidate?

Olympic sport, popular in Canada. It's sort of a mega-uber version of shuffleboard, played on ice with big heavy granite pucks. It's rather mesmerizing to watch, actually.

My DW took me out to dinner for Valentine's Day. While we were there, the restraunt bar had the Olympics on TV. I told her we were in a real cultural Mixmaster -- sitting in a Mexican restraunt, in Alabama, watching curling. :D

Hee! I like it!

Curling is actually really popular here...and it takes a lot more skill than you'd think. (Or, at least, more skill than I thought it would take when I tried it a couple of years back)

I like cornnut's description. Yay for glorified shuffleboard on ice! :D

Yeah. I grew up with that Vicks smell, too. Ya know what I like? The vapor patches that are out now. I can't remember the brand name, but I know it's not Vicks. The have the same smell without all the mss. Of course, they're designed for kids, but what do I care? They work for grownups too. And they come in cherry-scented.

I have a problem with the sesamoid bone on my left foot and have developed a bunion on the right foot (luckily the bunion isn't too bad). That along with a tendency to try to dance 5 days a week, 4 hours a day - the majority of the time in heels - means I am the ice bag queen! :D

Evening all! Hope everybody is well!

"The sesamoid bones are very small bones in the tendons conncected to the big toe. They serve a pulleylike function and can be strained or fractured." (quoted from The Pointe Book by Barringer and Schlesinger). Usually when you do something to them you will have pain under the metatasal when on demi pointe (standing on the ball of your foot). Yep, makes my balancing problems all that much more challenging...*sigh*

Actually, I think I'm set on that for the moment. I have the basic abstract for the panel I'm organinzing, and will just need to tweak it some once I receive all of my panellists papers. I'm still trying to organize my disscusants for the panel, but other than that, it's set to be submitted for consideration for November's American Anthropological Society annual meeting. I also finished up my own paper abstract for that panel as well.

...and I think I even managed to put together a decent presentation abstract for the Visual Research Conference as well, which was the one giving me headaches. I'll have to look it over again tomorrow to see if i think it still makes sense, but I actually think it's finally good to go.

Busy was finding all the panelists (including people from Australia, Denmark Ireland, Scotland, and the USA), figuring out a schedule that made sense based on each person's topic (I used an excel spreadsheet and went through 27 possible permutations), writing a preliminary version of a book proposal, updating my C.V., writing a cover letter for a postdoc position I'm applying for, aranging for letters of reference from three of my committee members, and then doing the three abstracts so far this month! ;)

Funny you mentioned about the mental side being taxing to the pros, we were talking to one of the latin pros at our studio and he rolled his eyes at us girls when we started talking about dresses and how "fat" we were; he ended up agreeing that he just had TOO many women in his life! LOL!!

I am really getting amused chasing you around the forum fascination....it's just cracking me up!

Anyway...guess we have opposite problems eh?

I do feel for the attractive male pros at the studio, they seem to have to deal with a lot of women (and some of them definitely have diva qualities - and I am NOT inferring you have any!). ya know, I dont even think its just the attractive guys, and I personally picked the pro that I thought I was least likely to be attracted to b/c I KNOW my vices....but I think people often pick up dance to fill a need and that can vary, but it can certainly be a drain on the provider....and I doubt guy pros are any different from most men who come home and don't want to talk...only possibly worse for reasons you and I can both imagine....

The rules for IRU membership are simply that you check in and post after midnight. It is also permissable to engage in conversations with others who are logged in past midnight in their time zone and to continue previous onversations started during official IRU hours. Actually, because us insomniac types are a friendly bunch, we let any DFer post in the thread and visit with us, but actual IRU membership is reserved for those posting past midnight.

Hope that clears everything up and, assuming that you meet these oh so stringent qualifications, welcome to the IRU Mr. Dance! :)

You notice that's kinda' a pattern with me? I got working on some spreadsheets that I'm doing for my volunteer work at Guide Dogs for the Blind and just finished up....got kinda' carried away.....

Nighty-night latingal!

As for me, I anticipate being up at least another hour and a half to two and a half. If I'm tired I'll head to bed at 3am, if not I'll still call it a night at 4am anyway.

Hmmm, just past 3:30am now, so I think I'll log off and start thinking about going to bed. Night-night all! :)

Alas, it was not the later... but fortunately not the former either. Do keep in mind that I made that post at almost 1:30am, so when I said "early" that was only relative to some of my 3-5am bedtimes too. ;)

I actually went to bed at midnight last night.. I couldnt believe it !! LOL . I never go to bed before 2 atleast and usually 3 is more like it. I didnt feel any better this morning than any other morning so that going to bed early stuff is overrated

pygmalion
03-23-2006, 08:21 PM
Come on! Midnight?!? You have to go to bed EARLY, rather than your usual LATE, if you wanna see any difference. Getting three hours sleep instead of two isn't statistically significant. You're still sleep deprived, silly.

(Not that sleep deprived is necessarily a bad thing, btw. I've been that way for years. )

Mr. Dance
03-23-2006, 09:40 PM
Midnite is as late as it gets for me, unless Im ill, there's no way I can force myself to bed any sooner without laying there watching TV, playing bejewled on my wife's cell, or reading a magazine.

Sleep deprived, yes for sure, but Im not sure I'd know what do with a solid 8 hours of sleep all at one time

almost 1am so I should be sleeping seeing how tired I am, but instead, I'm sitting here, covered in tanner (definately feels uncomfortable :( ) and trying to get my stuff together for this weekend. (competition and dance camp)

someone seriously needs to drag me to bed, I need the sleep desparately!! lol

1:08 am and yes here I am again.. if it weren't for the night time I'd not have near as much time to relax and spend some time on the net in a great place like this. I do some of my best work at night, been that way since high school probably even longer

RIdancer82, thats awesome that you've got a camp and competition this weekend, good luck to you! Now get some sleep

Thanks :D this comp is just for fun though, and I'm sure it will be lots of fun. I'm really looking foward to the rest of the weekend.... some more great dancing and then workshops all day with Larinda and a couple other great teachers. Should be a good time.

And yes, I'll be getting some sleep as soon as I finish printing out these directions :)

No, spiders are much better... they at least eat mosquitos!

Mr. Dance
03-25-2006, 08:10 PM
Yeah they do, and they do alot of good for the environment and controlling the insect population..but I still cant stand one. Ever since I saw my dad get bit by a brown recluse spider I just cant stand them anymore. :o;)

SDsalsaguy
03-25-2006, 08:12 PM
Yikes! Was he OK? That's not a friendly spider! (Which is also probably why it ends up being a recluse!)

pygmalion
03-25-2006, 08:14 PM
Other than brown reclusive spiders, I'd take spiders over mosquitos any day of the week. Spiders are defensive. But mosquitoes are aggressive; they actively pursue you. And, since they're so small and fast, it's virtually impossible to get them before they get you. (Besides, I caught malaria courtesy of mosquitoes, several years back. Grrrr. )

Spiders? Not so bad. Even brown reclusive spiders aren't actively looking to bite humans. They only attack if you trespass on their turf. But, since their bites can maim or kill (in untreated cases) I'd rather avoid them, if I can.

Too funny. I was typing up my post about brown reclusive spiders at the same time you were, Mr. Dance. Those spiders are killers. My twin got bitten several years ago, when she first moved to Texas. Thank goodness she got treatment right away. And a former coworker of mine also got bitten, but didn't get treatment for a few days. She ended up out from work for about six weeks.

Brown reclusive spiders are not to be messed with. :?

Mr. Dance
03-25-2006, 08:25 PM
Yeah he was ok, this was a long time ago when I was younger and we were chopping wood for the fireplace. We were messing around the wood pile and "zap" he bought it right on the arm. It swelled up like a balloon and he went to the hospital to get some anti-brown recluse venom or whatever they use to conteract the effects of the bite. ;)

Great minds think alike huh  Yeah I know how scarey it is to have someone close to you go through something like that! Those things are nasty, if I see one anywhere it immediately gets introduced to the bottom of my size 12 ;)

pygmalion
03-25-2006, 08:27 PM
Yeah. I'm not quite sure how to identify brown reclusive spiders, although I've seen quite a few pictures of them. So, whenever I see an unknown type of spider, I kill it immediately. Hey. Better safe than sorry.

Yep :( ....... we open the windows in the evenings to cool the place down, they make their ways in.
