MBB: I presume you've raised this with your parents? Aren't they concerned?

Have you noticed patterns in terms of sleepwalking more when you're particularly stressed?

Greetings to all inhabitants of IRU land! As you people are obviously the ones to come to about sleeping disorders, i've got a query for you.

Does anyone know anything about sleep walking? I do it quite a bit and almost always wake up with fresh bruises. I would think that hurting myself would wake me up but it doesn't. Anyone have any suggies for how to stop it? Apart from chaining myself to the bed..

Thanks, MBB.

Twould be interesting to rig up a video (no, not a web cam!!) - maybe you are doing rhumba walks :)

meow
11-20-2007, 12:01 AM
MBB, I hope your parents are aware of your sleepwalking. If not, you should tell them. Have you told your doctor? I haven't ever sleepwalked but I would be concerned enough to find out about it if one of my kittens was doing it.

there's an echo in here! :)
[Great mums think alike...]

MissBallroomBear
11-20-2007, 05:20 AM
Thanks for your responses guys!

Um, yeah parents know. They have to lock all the doors and windows of a night time. I freaked my mum out pretty badly when I came into her room and began folding up the blankets at the end of her bad, saying that I was "looking for the.. umm.. err... you know.."

I would try hooking up a video cam or something but I don't think it would last long enough. Who knows, maybe I'm a better dancer in my sleep!

Oh and Peaches, I have noticed it occurs more when I'm stressed. Had a heap of assignments and tests these past two weeks and I slept walked every night.

We haven't asked the doctor about it, maybe we should. My mum's ex-husband injured himself really badly when he was sleep waling and jumped out a window. Yeah, ouch!

I do get regular hours of sleep but I don't think I'm sleeping for long enough. How many hours are you meant to get?

I can usually tell when I've been sleepwalking because I wake up really tired.. I really hate the thought of not being in control of myself.

And I'm off to bed now, if any further posting on DF in later hours, you will know why..

And I'm off to bed now, if any further posting on DF in later hours, you will know why..

:) :o

lessee, how to use... you can order a 5K ballgown and just say you did it while sleepwaliking... Sorry to be make light but I don't know what to say - maybe there is some sort of electronic warning system though I seem to remember one should not wake a sleepwalker. I would see an expert - is there any famil history? Maybe there is a genetic factor?

meow
11-20-2007, 03:28 PM
I agree with Elise - get expert help. Sleepwalking can be dangerous. There are many Sleep Centres in Aust so go to your GP and get a referral. I would have done that yesterday!

Thanks for all your suggestions guys. I'll get a referal to see a sleep doctor. I'm not going to have the time for a while though. Hopefully the fact that my exams are over will stop me sleep walking until I can see a doctor.

At the moment there is too much talking. We are in election mode with Polling Day tomorrow. Everyone is soooo over it, we will be glad it is over when it is over.

How are the resident:rolleyes:IRUers, if there are any left? Gosh, at one time there were a few of us, now it seems just a couple of us are still entrenched. I like this thread - we can talk about anything we like without going off topic - as long as we can't sleep.

elisedance
11-23-2007, 02:42 AM
For some of us I suppose we can even do it while we are asleep! Do we have any sleep-posters? I certainly feel like I could be right now. Stomach feels a bit out of sorts. Hope its nothing - lesson today...

Odd that we don't hear from SDG here anymore either. Wonder where he took off for? LG used to drop in too right? Maybe The Real World interceded or maybe DF is under attach from martians and the gods have had to rally thuderbolts...

meow
11-23-2007, 02:54 AM

By the way, Meow, did you get access to the computer back from the kits?

meow

Yes. I have access to the computer but when eldest kitten is home he sleeps in the same room the computer lives in. That is when I can't get to it. Going over to Happy/Random to see what is going on.

By the way, new government elected. Kevin Rudd new PM. John Howard has probably lost his sreat in Parliament so even if his party had won, he wouldn't have been PM.

MissBallroomBear

I'm glad I didn't have to vote. I don't particularly like either of them. I can leave the decision of who stuffs up our economy to my parents.

Therein the problem lies - when you reach 18 you won't have a choice as voting is compulsory.
I don't trust politicians, they never answer a question directly and break promises all the time. But, we are not voting for a President. We are supposed to be voting for a party and their policies. And party leaders can and have been voted out of their leadership position midterm, so Rudd may be PM today but someone could challenge in the future. So, 'liking' Howard or Rudd shouldn't play into it, but as humans, it does.

elisedance
11-25-2007, 06:05 AM
Its hard to avoid the immediate though Meow, if you vote in Labor you know that Rudd will be PM and, if Australia is anything like England or Canada, once a PM is in position it takes an earthquake to remove them. Thus, at least here, if you vote in a party with a PM you better figure on that PM being in charge for the long haul.

meow
11-26-2007, 12:18 AM

Very true, but in this case, John Howard openly said that he would not stay for the full term and that there would be a leadership transition midterm to the Treasurer, Peter Costello. The election, therefore became Rudd vs Howard/Costello. This is where he shot himself in the foot.

The other main issue for losing is that his Industrial Relations plan 'Workchoices" was brought in after the last election without anyone knowing he had these plans. And, 'Workchoices' is a BIG loser in the electorate. So, there was a huge trust issue as John Howard said that once Costello was PM nothing would change (Workchoices wouldn't be toughened) - well, how could he guarantee that if he wasn't there anymore?

Now, the Libs are in deep water. Howard reaffirmed his belief in Costello to lead the Libs in Oppossition as his natural 'Heir' in his concession speech. The next day, Costello announced that he didn't want the job and isn't staying on til the next election - he couldn't be PM so he won't fight for it as an Oppossition Leader? - just showed us what he is made of and I'm glad he is walking.

ED: Yep, busy with school stuff. Also, went to a friends' dancing concert the other night. Not ballroom. The kind of concert were they choreograph a routine and perform it on stage. Much prefer our type of dancing. Can't tell her that though.

Meow: Can't complain too much. How bout you?

P.S. How can I get two quotes in the same post?

I'm fine. The weather is very sticky here and sleeping is difficult enough without this humidity. I think I should invest in a ceiling fan as I won't run the ac all night. How is school - it should be over soon. So you have the end of year 'Activities Week?'

Hi ED. It must be very early in your part of the world.

its 4 15 or so here - went to sleep rather early (9 pm) but woke as one of the knuckles on my right hand really hurt - so much that I thought maybe I was getting arthritis - turnes out I must have been sleeping with it crooked or something as its fine now.

cat keeps bothering me - Nora comes and sits on my lap making it impossible to type. I find I can't say no to her though! Amazing how cats have evolved to act the child, they bring out all the maternal protective/caring instincts. Right down to the baby's cry at night...

DH woke me up last night asking me if I wanted my pillow back. Seems he wanted his pillow back, which I'd taken over...on account of Idget having taken over my pillow.

Yeah, sure, the cats had completely taken over my side of the bed (Fizz sleeps at my feet, and then stretches out; Idge took over the pillow; they're both big cats), and I was completely contorted and ticking off DH...but I felt so horrible kicking them off the bed. Settled for kicking Idge off...he has a cat bed *right there* anyway.

You were probably influenced by swing lingo in which guys are "cats" and girls are "kittens." I made the same assumption when reading some of Meow's earlier messages until I saw one in which she used a personal pronoun for her "kitten."

I can send you a txt message on your cell phone from the venue, although I won't be working out the time difference. If they make the semi like they did last year then I will be happy. Without knowing who is competing from overseas it is difficult to say who will make the final. Last year, only 3 Aussie couples made the final.

Have you managed that conversion yet?

Good timing! The dance comp was located a few blocks from the one place that I found that could convert from PAL (we use NCSF here) to DVD but >hour's drive (and major hassles) from home or work. I dropped it off today - it should be done by Thursday.

Im here as well. I never come straight home from school. I always go to my grandmother's house and one of my parents pick me up from there. (Mum's a teacher and she doesn't get home until about 5 and Dad's on shift work so he's always a bit unpredictable). And my grandma doesn't have a computer! How on earth anyone can make do without a computer in this day and age is beyond me.

How are you ED and Meow if your still slinking around?

I can't complain. You?

I was home alone one day and a smoke alarm starting going off- just defective. I couldn't figure out how to turn it off so I got it down and put it under Dad's bed. The next morning, he complained that there had been an awful noise and he had had to sleep on the lounge. I felt so bad! Should've just thrown it in the pool..

Haven't danced for 6 days now. Basically my only dance outlet is going for practice alone and I haven't done so in 6 days. Empty, boring days. I'm so filled with energy I could go nuts. Nah, I just need to practice on my own like I should be doing. ;) It's just more difficult on my own and instead of sucking it up and getting used to it (which would be a very good habit in the long run) I just sit on my bum. Tomorrow I'm definitely practising because it's Team Practice, but I'll try to stick to it for the next 10 days till I leave for holidays, see if I get any "work" done.

Well, I am exhausted. I have to cook (chicken wings) and get water and nibbles together for the comp. They have their outits now - they look wonderful. They will both wear black for the rounds. They will change (if they get through to the semi) into their white costumes. They are exactly the same cut and design but one outift is white and one black. My kitten will retain his black pants. I don't know where else to post this so I figure it can go here. I am certainly not starting a 'kitten at the comp' thread!

12-07-2007, 02:46 AM
Hi Meow: Have we discussed costume changes before? I seem to remember that there were two points of view - one that it was a good idea for freshness and the other that it might confuse the judges - that is if they have an eye out for the good looking couple in mauve but can't place the new ones in aubergine!

I don't think I have read the perspective of a parent on a comp before here. Maybe you should start a new thread. Something like 'Competitor once removed' say!

meow
12-07-2007, 03:20 PM
Hi ED. I think there are pro's and con's for costume changes. But, in the end I guess it is up to the couple - if they feel good then......
Most of the competitors here at the Aussies will change for the semi or the final - it is usual practice so I don't think it will be a big issue but who am I to really know? It is up to them and their coach and whatever will be will be.
Maybe a parents thread next year when there are more comps. This is the last one for this year.

hello meow. Its something else before a comp isnt it? Though I've never done it for someone else - much of it must be calming nerves and keeping an even keel....

The best way of keeping everything on an even keel is to not talk about the comp at all.
He has his stuff to organise and I have my stuff and then at the comp I basically keep away. Sounds awful , I know, but it isn't meant that way. Parents just tend to make them stress more so it is better to be there when they want you and not go near them any other time. I make it sound bad but all of us parents are in the same boat.

Starting to feel nervy. Don't like to be nervous as it is irritating. Where is everyone? I seem to ask that alot.

Haven't been on for a few days. It's been really hectic with Christmas shopping and then I had to stay at my Grandma's house and she doesn't have a computer (omg). How are we all?

Hey meow, how was your kitten's comp? My dance instructors went down to judge. Was there a man wearing red shoes?

MBB - I'm just text-messaging Meow at the comp - just posted on happy/random that the kit n' kat have just made the semis. Waiting for the next round..... :)

Welcome back from the stone ages. can you imagine how hard it was to do things before computers??

MBB, who is your coach/es? I wasn't really looking at people's shoes but I know who most of them are. And it is worth watching on TV Xmas night.

My coaches are Marlene Halliwell and Marinus De Roo. Marinus was probably wearing red shoes.. He likes to pretend he's gay.

what's all this talk about dance? i thought this was an insomniac thread. (technically, i'm working, but since it's a sunday night and tend to just watch and not trade unless i'm just scalping 5/8 ENA crosses....

wow. i probably spent more time posting tonight than i did for the rest of 2007 put together.

i didn't see anything posted by chris stratton recently. did he fill his 2007 quota for irritating people with that nomenclature thread or something?

and for those of you who care at all:

since sept. the GBP/USD hit a 261.8% fibonacci extension at 2.11 before dropping back to a 62% at about 2.0180, that last drop concluding a "C" wave for you elliott wave theory fans out there.

it's now bouncing off the 50% fibonacci retracement from the tuesday high at 2.0673. while the daily trend is still down, the 60 minute 5, 8 & 20 EMA's look good, MACD has crossed the zero line and is zooming so i see no reason why they shouldn't hit the next short term targets at 2.0450, and again at 2.0488 at the 62% fibonacci - unless they don't! Maybe the queen's dog (not camilla - a real dog) dies or something. but that's part of the fun. but i expect the NY open to provide the next push upwards - again, unless it doesn't.

tsb, I take it you work in finance. Other than paying my bills and balancing my budget, what you posted was gobblygook to me.
In IRUland, we can talk about anything really, as long as we are in the right time zone or talking to someone who is in the right time zone. I think that's the rules but I'm sure SDS will correct me very quickly if I'm wrong.

MBB, were they judging on Friday or Saturday? I don't think they were judging on Sunday.

tsb - best part of your post was 'and for those of you who care at all:' thats where I knew to tune out :p

On the other hand, evidence now points to the inclusion of the calcium channel within the transmitter release site at the presynaptic terminal despite arguments to the contrary for the past 15 years. To me that means we can consider the release site a defined and highly evolved cellular organelle.....

There again, if I listen to you I may get a little richer whereas if you listen to me you may not get very much at all except confused.... :)

MissBallroomBear

They must have been judging on Sunday because they flew down Saturday afternoon.
Oh well, Just thought it would've been a cool coincidence.

I will check the program to see if they were listed to judge. Maybe they just went to watch? Let you know.

Thanks Meow.

On the note of coaches, what are we all getting them for Christmas? I've got absolutely no idea what to get mine. I was thinking maybe a foot massage but they're a bit expensive and I wouldn't want them to be embarassed. Anyone got any ideas?

I know this doesn't really belong in this thread but I wasn't going to sart an entirely new thread dedicated to 'what to get my dance coaches for Christmas'.

I haven't decided yet what to get kitten's coach. But it will be something really nice. He has been fantastic. And, MBB, you may see my kitten in the Aussie's telecast - they made the semi.

I think it is 'good evening' now for you and morning for me. How are you ED? I have that wierd head feeling that isn't a headache, it is when you need more sleep. Was awake most of the night. It was really warm overnight, around 22C. Cooler outside now. Don't know if that was a factor in keeping me awake or not.

thread of the misbegotten... this could be a modern play where everyone walks onto the stage alone and always misses everyone else.... mental note: start writing plays...

Writing sounds too much like work. Can't you assign it to some students/assistants or something? :)

elisedance
12-16-2007, 02:34 AM
believe me, writing it yourself is a lot easier than getting a student to do something.... :p

here I am as alone as the fool on the hill. Hmm, lets set DF IRU to the Beatles song

The fool on the DF
Sees the board going round
And the eyes in her head
See the threads scrolling down

Nobody seems to answer
Nobody seems to post
They never listen to her
and the fool on the DF
Is alone on IRU

At the moment I am waiting for news on my dog, Missy. She became ill suddenly and I haven't been interested in anything but her for the last few days - hence no appearance on DF. She is now on IV Fluids in the hospital.
It doesn't look good. There are three things it could be =
- kidney failure
- cancer
- Addison's Disease

If it is Addison's, then with medication she can live a normal and happy life. The other two don't bear thinking about, as the end result is soooo painful.

Don't know when I'll check in again. I wish dogs had nine lives too.

I'm so sorry Meow. I hope that Missy makes a full recovery quickly. It's terrible having a seriously ill pet. My thoughts and prayers are with you. The whole of DF is here for you if you need us.
