Hay SDSalsa!

We need all the members we can get. There hasn't been much support for the IRU club recently!! We don't want to start throwing out the few active members that we have, such as Pygmailion!!

In defence of my going to bed at 11:30pm, SD... :PPPPP

I had a reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally bad week at work and am usually up MUCH later dancing. Not much sleep in three days because of the pre-Christmas madness...I can't belive I'm defending myself in a public forum against the fact that 11:30 is too early to go to bed...sheesh...but, as you know, if "I'd let you go" a little sooner, it might have been MUCH earlier!!! :) he heheh

I'm here... which goes to prove my insanity.

As if three hours of hip hop was not enough I drove to SF and did some lindy hop and blues for three hours. I got about 1.5 hours sleep, before hitting Dickens fair and doing eight hours of victorian social ballroom, then went to two different lindy hop dances for a total of five hours I got about three hours sleep before goin g back to Dickens another eight hours of Vic ballroom. I drove back to Sacramento, only to dance 3.5 hours of lindy hop.

I think its bed time.

not entirely my friend... there's planty of school work to do between the semesters and just because the time isn't ridgedly structured doesn't mean there's not work to do or that it's easy! In someways it's more difficult and requires a much stronger dedication. ;)

I had my grad review today and it went quite well actually YAY!! I have a final tomorrow morning that I need to finish preparing for (before and after dancing!) then it's just a matter of packing, tying up the loose ends, and getting on my plane... almost there! Great Swingkitten!!! Is the grad review like an A exam, which qualifies you to do a PhD thesis? All the best on your final! :)

Swing Kitten
12-10-2003, 01:58 AM
the grad review is something we have to go through at the end of each semester. We display all of our work for that term and the design faculty talk with you about it. This is also supposedly the final due date of our class work which adds a bit of pressure as well.

It can go smoothly but it can also go horribly. I've yet to have my review go poorly but I've had classmates who have... it's my goal not to experience this first hand.

Sagitta
12-10-2003, 02:14 AM
Aha!! I know what you're talking about now. In architecture all the undergrad students have such a review at the end of the semester. The only difference is that it is usually is the classmates and the prof who critique, and it ends up being day-long affairs. :)

Am checking out as I need to get some sleep. First time I've done this sort of thing as this is the first semester at Cornell that I've really been into dance. I find all these dances every night and barely get any sleep. Danced Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday...tonight and there is another dance tomorrow. Need to catch some winks before I fall asleep on my feetszzzz....

Seriously though, it was just one of those fluke occurrences. It happened to be a really fast song, but this is a partner I’ve probably done the same thing with several hundred times without even coming close to an accident. Really!! Just letting you know you might have to wait quite a while if it was up to me. That was never discussed. Now if SD wants to do something...

However, I'm feeling generous so a little poetic license given the early morning hours and the attempt at rhyming.

The poem now stands on it's own, proud of it's success!
No response to refute it.
The poor thing does not know, it's simply being ignored.
It's simply a bore! (Yawn)

or, perhaps, even better...since you want a response...

The poem stands on it's own, needy and demanding
As the members stand around smiling.
Let it whine they say,
As that poem is not going to get it's way.

Some most unfortunate people as
It apparently seems to be,
Lack in worthwhile evening activities –
Lacking places to go/people to see.

Yet these folk do deserve pity,
ERC the name of this unfortunate bunch,
Regularly rising too early in the morning;
Inevitably having dinner when others are having lunch!

Can these poor souls be saved? Can they escape their vile ways?
Know that we will always have room for them
…when they finally escape the sun's morning rays.

I was up way in the middle of the night, too, but my computer is being consumed by ghastly viruses as we speak, so I didn't get to post much. Why does this keep happening to me? Have my forays into the wonderful world wide web irretrievable ruined my computer? Oh, what a life!

You've just got to love that the ode to the ERC ( ) is the post that takes the IRU to 40 (!) pages!

Not too bad Jon, not too bad! You need to work on the flow of your rhyming though...its gotta be just like a song...yes indeed. :)

Hey - no poking too much fun at us early risers now...you should have seen my first draft before it was edited.

Umm, Erick? How long did we have to wait for your poem which you had volunteered as forthcoming? Ok . . . and then how long until mine was up at your prompting (and although never volunteered)? Nuff said!

Yes I know, you wrote it impromptu...however as I was peacefully sleeping away I didn't see it until this morning, but I take your word for it. :)

Well, I didn't spent too long on my poem...I tried to write it several times during the day and nothing happened. You can't rush things like that...when it starts to flow...it just writes itself. Some of my best work and A+ papers in school were written in under 10 minutes without any preparation.

There's something to be said for being spontaneous sometimes. Of course it can also get you slapped too. :P

Salsa lifts my soul to see
Always to the music, I come to dance
Lady in my arms, I'm stuck in a trance
Sabor is a word I am beginning to learn
And the more I dance, the more I yearn

Called to the floor with the lights turned low
Anger leaves my heart like the waves on the shore
Love fills my body from earth to sky
I keep on dancing, and I don't know why
Each step to the clave, the light in the dark
Nothing can stop us now, for we play our part
Tomorrow is another day, for the moment is now
Enchanting is your beauty, the sweat on your brow.

There's an impromptu one for ya. :)

P.S. Sagitta - where's your poem? Pygmalion? Swing Kitten? Get cracking! :)

Now, now, you are not paying attention, are you?

You got an immediate response and it rhymed, what more do you want? Here it is again, with a couple modifications to personalize it:

The poem stands on it's own, needy and demanding
As Sagitta stands around smiling.
Let it whine he says,
As that poem is not going to get it's way.

[And here's another quick verse, to show that if you're not satisfied I'm always willing to help a friend.]

The IRU club is going strong.
We know what we got, and got what we want. :D 8)
The ERC club gasps - last breath - as it crawls along.
No one in IRU is quite sure what's going on. :?

Indeed I am Sagitta! Now, poetry is a very abstract art so it really shouldn't be judged, however I've seen so much of it that seems to be lacking something. My writing teachers would never have let me pass that off ...this isn't Haiku or anything!

You can't get away with writing such a small amount my friend..and remember to be nice! My first poem for the IRU was a little harsh so I toned it down (note - WAY down!), I'm trying to be funny, not mean!

As Monty Burns would say "Where's the heart?" Jonathan followed the style I presented to the book - and its ok if you wanna veer off on your own...but one small paragraph won't cut it!

The how does not matter, carina dulcita. The only thing to do is write a poem. Or two. Or even three! That goes for the rest of you as well! 8)

No heart!! :( Saggita accepts the scolding. His pathetic woebegone figure would wring tears from a cryogenic heart!! First he was told that he had too much heart in real life, and now none in DF. :? Life is way too difficult! He needs the night to recover. He doubts if he will ever be the same again.

Namaste my friend you take me too seriously! I never said you have no heart...quite the contrary! I'd rather see you express yourself in a poem that isn't about our silly little clubs! :friend:

See the passion and emotions expressed in your last post? That's pure magic my friend - so if you are so moved - then channel it into some words. Something about dance would be nice - there surely isn't enough poetry about romance either...take the floor and make it yours!

I see a fine poet in the making here. :)

...in which case the only thing that matters is what time it is where I am, right?

As it stands now, though, there's a dual-modality at work in the IRU. Checking in at local IRU type hours certainly counts, but so too do exchanges with anyone else who happens to be maintaining IRU appropriate hours so, on these second grounds, your fine salsachinita…its is, after all, past 1am for me!

Hey! I'm still lurking around...:)

Sounds like more time for dancing practice! I've been listening to Salsa all night (i love salsastream!)...so I think I'll be dreaming it all night...

How about telling more about that wild tat of yours? Firstly, may I ask what inspired you to get it?

I see Youngsta is still up...are you going for full fledged IRU membership? :)

Yep Lindy Jihad, the founding members of this forum are usually never around at odd hours...sometimes I wonder if they just have friends who log in as them or something.

I bet SDSalsaguy is sleeping right now...but he's more than likely out dancing.

my wild tatt. hah, rad.
well...what inspired me?
both sides of my families are off the boat. it started out as something totally different but it still had the whole oldskool ship/sailing/ocean theme.
the fish were mermaids (they are being moved up to my neck)
the battle ship was a clipper (changed to a battle ship because clippers tend to be over done, battleships are very rare, and it looks bad ass.)
the anchor was going to be much bigger, but we had thought we were just going to scrap it, so we put the eagle much lower..
but yes, i am addicted. i love tattoos.

Coffee beans are Sara and SD's thing, I'm staying as far away from that as possible!

Believe me, I need some physical therapy in the worst way myself! My regular bodyworker is away for the holidays and I'm patiently waiting to get an appointment! :headwall:

I was out dancing last night, but I was tired, there were a lot of loonies on the floor, and it was crowded, so I called it an early night at the club -- a bit before midnight I think.

Almost no good follows out tonight so, again, I called it an early night. I do have to seriously straighten up the apartment though, because my roommate gets back from winter break tomorrow afternoon.

What really tweaks me is that I know that, come Monday, when I’ll need to be up in lecture prior to 9am it will once again take multiple earthquakes to rouse me prior to 11am… :? :(

Anyway, waking up that early is just not normal (well, at least for me,) so I ended up sleeping half the afternoon away. I just got back from the gym a bit past 1:00am so am now catching up on tonight's DF postings and chilling out.
