View Full Version : How long have you been dancing?
Just thought the distribution could be interesting. When reading the posts here it sounds like most people have been around the dance scene for a looooong time, but maybe this is just the people who post the most? We'll see.

I voted 6-10 years, but that isn't exactly accurate. I've only been ballroom dancing that long. I've been dancing other forms since way before that.

Seriously training a little over a year, ballroom almost 2 years... The thing that I called dancing before I knew anything, a long time. (also some folk dancing back in Poland)
This fall, it will be 3 years. 8)
During that time period I've done 2 competitions, 3 studio mini-competitions, 2 studio exhibition dances, and I've participated in numerous other dance activities. What started out as a hobby is becoming a lifestyle. 8)

I've only been dancing 13 months, (happen to fall into ballroom last year and got SERIOUSLY hooked on it!) Since I am such a newcomer, and I know it, I do a lot of research on the internet. I am trying to read as much as possible on dance forum, since it seems there are experienced dancers here. I love hearing the different and varied opinions from fraternization rules, competition clues (pre-cut fake eye lashes!) and pantyhose threads! Just to name a few!

4 years, though if you take out the hiatuses in the first few years then it would be more like 3.
And that's not counting the failed attempts to learn 30 years ago.

9 years.
Something like three months... Did a little bit of salsa a few years ago, but dropped it together with my then boyfriend. I do not count that.

I started 10-11 years ago, dropped lessons in graduate school (still danced socially but not as frequently), then took it up again after I moved. Cumulative I think I'm at 6 years, with a lot of acceleration in my learning curve over the last 2.

I started dancing on Labor Day Weekend, 1997. For the international crowd, that is usually the first week in September, I think.

I think I can safely say Love2Swing, that non of us here are young enough to know everything, yet  :D
10 years in total, but only 6 years Lindy & 3 years Balboa which are currently our primary dances.
