Some reasearchers are working on floor tiles that shift around to stay under your feet as you walk, for virtual reality simulations. I wonder if we could dance on them? They even want to make a version that can handle uneven sub terain - foxtrot in the back yard?

Having seen their hardware at SIGGRAPH last week, it will be an awfully long time before it's commercializable (and wouldn't be cheaper than a small dance floor even then). Also hard to see how this could work even in principle with a dancing couple not in closed position.

They spent more time fiddling with getting the hardware functioning safely than doing demos :-(
