Was leading the "young'un", Zumi, out today and he thought he'd be a snarky little thing- turned and nipped at me. Well, I swished the excess of the leadrope (in left hand) behind me and towards him by means of reprimand- he bunches himself up, his hind feet come off the ground and FORWARD, and crunch my ELBOW and ribs!
Never in 22 years at least (I'm 26 and have been around horses since very VERY early on) have I seen a horse do THAT. Reinforces the "expect the unexpected- even when it's unexpected" theory.
Well, there goes arm-styling practice :( Zumi's not a bad boy. He's very quick and smart- but he was a rescue horse, and who knows what his mind associates the simplest things with that we take for granted without even a thought. Most horses would see that as "why, you vile human" and snort in contempt- like any "L D child" in a special needs class, he likely felt insecure and indignant, and lashed out.
Ok, enough boring you lot with equi-psychology and "I'm lamed up" whining. I can be satisfied watching corny dance movies and drooling over Rick Valenzuela. (that is SO sad. I need a life.)
