View Full Version : Your Top 10 favourite social partners (locally)

While out dancing last night, I casually mentioned (without giving a thought), "Hey, it's my lucky night! 4 out of my Top 5 salseros are here....!"

My friend asked, "So who's missing...?"

I thought about who my Top 5 are, but soon realised that I need to increase it to Top 10  .......!

Here's my local list (in no particular order):

"Rico"
SugarGlider
El Washing Machine
Gangsta
Carmelo
El Pirate
"Griffin" (of Soul Latin)
Aloy (of Cuban Addiction)
Alejandro (of Lady Salsa)
DJ J. Rig

.........and Andrew, my current partner.

I thought it might be fun to list your current favourites, then come back sometime later to see if the list has changed  !

Go ahead & give people nicknames, if you don't want to use real names 8) .

Some day I plan to be good enough to attract ten regular partners. Right now I'm at about two.

I don't have many options besides my dance partner... :(

I thought about who my Top 5 are, but soon realised that I need to increase it to Top 10  .......!

No names here, but I've done a count up and found 5 in the top league of favourites (the guys who are always the highlight of any night of dancing), 7 in the second league (guys I always try to dance with because I enjoy dancing with them, even though not quite to the extent I love dancing with the top-league guys) and 7 more on the "reserve list", made up of "hit-and-misses" (had some great dances with them but also some pretty average ones too) and "early-days-yets" (only danced once or twice, good so far but need to try more to be sure).

My "dream dance partner" isn't counted since he's not a local salsero and I have no idea if I'll ever get to dance with him again. Such is life...

"Hey, it's my lucky night! 4 out of my Top 5 salseros are here....!"
I have never had a night where all 5 of the top-league leaders are present, since some of them only dance either in Glasgow or Edinburgh. There have been a couple of "4 out of 5" nights though, so I know the feeling!

Some day I plan to be good enough to attract ten regular partners.
Hey, many of the favourites on my list are regular partners only because I always ask them to dance every time I see them. Whether or not they like dancing with me is another matter entirely .

I do sometimes wonder if I'm on any leader's favourites' list yet though...

Guess I'll have to borrow a few from Salsachinita 8) !

Hmm, there's one lady I can think of who is on the top of my list...I will always dance with her. Dancing with her is always a very hearted centered and almost spiritual experience...and she just flows with my trying-my-best-to-be-smooth lead. The first time I danced with her was like we'd been dancing for months, no fighting...no trouble...just a fun dance.

She's dreamy...beautiful...I haven't danced with her in months (we keep missing each other on Salsa nights)...but hopefully I will see her again soon...

That is only one though that really comes to mind...there are a few others but none that I see on a regular basis at the clubs.

However, I know I have close to 10 on my "avoid at all costs" list! :D  :D

Still leaves out several ladies I really enjoy dancing with.

Funny... my black/grey list is shorter than my fave list -- 2 faces (don't know their names -- I never bothered to ask ) at the moment. There used to be 3 on the list, but I have recently discovered that the third one is actually a fun partner for cha cha cha, so he's off it now (I still try to avoid him when it's salsa though).

My top local list oddly enough has people whom I know:

A1
A2
L

In terms of ability, these three range from advanced intermediate to newbie beginner. However with them all I have that connection, and all I want is the connection. :)

OK, I've just decided. It's a girl! She's my best buddy who just started learning salsa a year ago! We go to clubs together and when we can't find a decent guy to dance with, just go out on the floor and do shines & have a great time! I just spent the past 2 hours teaching her about 10 shines and she picked them up really quickly! No salsa scene here at the present, so we just have to keep honing our skills... :?

I just made a list and it's long but I wouldn't want to cut it down. Stopped at 30 for Glasgow alone but I'm sure there's someone I've forgotten.

These are partners that I would happily dance almost all night with as they're fun and with most of them I have at one time or another. So I guess that would also put me somewhere on their list too. :) A few of them have left Glasgow now and returned to their home countries.

For London, which is my favourite place to go now, I have a few favourite partners but it's early days yet and there's a lot of choice! I love variety! :D

(missed this thread!)

Lol! Yup! I sure do!

Do most of them go out all much any more? I didn't see more than 1/2 of them the last two times I visited Denver.

What's odd is that of all the friends I made in the Denver salsa scene, I think I have more friends who used to be in the scene than are now currently in the scene.

But then again, that fits my desciption of a healthy scene. One which has a constant inflow and outflow of dancers.

And on a related note: one of my current favs here in DC is moving! It's too bad cuz I haven't gotten nearly enough dances with her!

I can only come up with 5:
Gary
Chris
Bill
Bill
Rich

:)

That's just for social dancing, doesn't count instructors (even when I have the opportunity to social dance with them). :)

Not that any of you know who any of them are. :)

Well, since I'm only shorter than 3 leads that I see regularly, I'd have to say they are my favorites. (And when I put my ballroom shoes on, I'm actually taller than 2 of them, but it's close enough that we work thru it ok.) Luckily, I really like to dance with all three of them. 8)

It bites to be a vertically gifted woman in the land of vertically challenged people. I'm only 5'8" (more with my shoes on.)

There are quite a few more people that I see dancing and I think, "Gosh, if their head didn't end right in my chest, they'd be totally fun to dance with." :(

I started to list them and.....

geeze i can't list them all. There are too many. From LA to Washington DC, from San Fransicso to San Diego and from DC to NYC. Just too too many.

And a lot of them locally have danced with me from a beginner to an intermediate beginner today.

Let me try to remember a few favorites:
Alice from DC(Clavekasi), Irene from SF, Nari in Korean, Christina from Chi Town (Descarga Caribe), a lady name Janet I danced with at Jimmy's in NYC, Yessi from NJ. Yvette, Iriyali, Liz Lira, Carla (missing in action), and Sonyu here in LA a red hair Russian in Aussy and many ladies in SD with I can't recall their names.

And yea Rob I am with you on this: Nancy previously from Denver. :P

Only up to 2 right now but over time that will increase significantly:

1) Courtney
2) Ashlyn (a competitive dancer here in Atlanta, amazing on a dance floor very sweet and about as ego-less as one can get).

I'm with you on this, the women that have always danced a couple with me from the time I started learning until now(and beyond) always get preference in my book. I agree Alice from CK is an awesome dancer.

My favorites, in general they know who they are:).

I've got too many and I don't know the names of most of them, so I really can't. That's what I get for dancing both ballroom and WCS, and in three states, no less.
There are some that I love dancing with, but want nothing to do with off the floor (past history). So I don't know if I can include them in the list or not.

Okay, I am going to be brave and answer this question about my favorite leads from my local area. Hmmm, I wonder how much feedback I will get from those on my list and those I might have forgotten to mention. Did you hear that woosh sound? I think that was the sound of caution to the wind. Now this is in no particular order, just names as I think of them.

Carmelo (when he will dance with me)

Kobie H. (my patient and generous dance partner)

Todd D. (for his spontaneous, playful and creative leads)

Mike A. (for his smooth grace and generous spirt)

Darlin G.(because his enthusiasm and excitement are catching)

Joe F. (because he is one of the best leads I know and I love it when I do something he likes and he gets a big smile on his face)

Raul S. (well, what can i say, he is on everyone's favorite list)

Ajay (so much fun, a dear friend and easy to follow)

Victor C. (because he is a fabulous dancer, friend and makes me forget how old I am)

Eli T. (because his energy and expressiveness are off the charts)

Jose (because his dancing is playful and uninhibited)

Adam P. (his salsa, bachata and hustle are top notch)

Andre P. (my first hustle instructor and forever favorite)

Opps, I think I need to stop because I already went way over my limit. There are so many more I'd like to mention though. Philly is rich with talented leads.

If we're grinnin' at you when we dance with you... (or if we give you "the look") then you're on "the list"...

I guess that is what many of us - leaders and followers - can do more: compliment our partners on a good dance, move, lead, follow, combo, break-to-the-music, whatever... Hey, they still won't know whether they're on your list  , but it would just give them a bit of a "lift". Especially a good inspiration for intermediates and beginners!

Maybe it should become one of our commandments: thou shalt compliment thy partner on a good dance!

ok, I had to come back and update my list (again, in no particular order):

Belle Uzeche - just started taking classes w/ her and her husband Jose Maldonado. Always gives me a fun challenge on the floor!

Laura Geldys - beautiful performer, lots of fun to dance w/ and gives me lots of inspriation/encouragement

Angela Harris - my "big salsa sister", great follower but even better leader than most guys!

Taniko - my other salsa sister

Maya - knows how to politely correct me when I'm off beat. Thanx for stickin' w/ me girl!

Jessica

Sumika

Julianna - only had one dance w/ her but that was more than enough!

Tia - just moved in from out of town and surprised the heck out of me! kept me coming back for more!

Katie - the first lady I ever asked to dance that I didn't know

Ife - seen us both get better over time, soooo easy to lead

Jaynie

Jackie

Stacy

Ananna - the most upbeat, down to earth teacher I know

Rikia

Emily

Terra

Kameko - my main supporter in my class that I teach at my church; if nobody else is there I can count on her

I know that's more than 10, but who's counting anyway?

2. Anthony

I guess I don't really have a regular fav. Mmmm... I do remeber this sexy salsa teacher I danced with in Veracruz, that was good. A few men I met in SF were great- Tony and Humberto. Also a beautiful boy from Alcapulco. I suppose the list goes on... but I think I will give a shout out to all of the sexy men dancers- thank you. And I am looking forward to dancing with everyone.
