It seems I have more holidays left than I thought and I'm thinking "how easy is it to get to Geneva from Edinburgh?"
Of course there's the small matter of funding...
Just curious. Where are you two planning to stay?

Yes Pacion, I know -- these are certainly options I'm considering, a few people I know are going to Salsa Cubana (despite Pakefield being unbelievably difficult to get to from up here) if not other ones, and I even mentioned them in another thread (http://www.dance-forums.com/viewtopic.php?p=87804#87804), but somehow "I'm going to Geneva for a weekend of salsa" has a nicer ring than "I'm going to Pontins for a weekend of salsa" to my ear...

rotl! Yes, I have to admit Geneva does sound a lot better to one's ear than Pontins does AND there are the teachers/performers to add to the attraction -
- Luis Vazquez and Melissa
- Tropical Gem
- Ismael Otero
- Griselle Ponce
- Susana Montero
- Leon Rose
- Mario
I cannot comment on the others as they are not known to me :? so
BUT, BUT, BUT! The prospect of focussing ONLY on Cuban is my idea of fun just now. Having been to weekenders/congresses, I don't like being torn/being forced to decided between styles and teachers :? it disturbs my Librian equilibrium
Therefore, hopefully, I will become more of a master rather than a "Jack of all trades"

Well I must admit I started having a Cuban withdrawal at the UK congress by Sunday night, but knowing me, if I go to an all-Cuban event, I will end up with a bad case of slot withdrawal...

I'm really looking forward to it, and meeting you all :-)
I'm also wondering what level the classes will be. I know they say beginner / intermediate / advanced on the programme / schedule thingy ... but maybe their idea of intermediate equates to my idea of advanced (hope that makes sense).
Guess I'll just have to try it and find out ... hehe.
Be really nice to meet you Preko, Lita_rulez and MacMoto :-)
See you all soon !!!

Yes I know what you mean. I had the same problem when I went to SalsaMed.
The UK congress had a guideline on levels on their website (it's still there... if interested, see http://www.salsa-uk.com/Congress/Workshop.htm), but I still felt that the some "intermediate" workshops were at a much higher level than others (maybe just me though ). It really is up to the teacher of each workshop, I suppose. Also, some teachers may change the pace of the class to suit the level of the people in the class. You can always try an intermediate class first and see if you want to stay at that level or move up/down.

So, how do we meet ?
Well, for me meeting with Jamie's no problem since we will be on the same plane and staying at the same place. Meeting up with you and Preko is the tricky part. Did I give you/Preko my mobile number? It would be great if we could meet for dinner or something, but if not, at least you can text me your whereabouts and meet up with us in the congress venue. I'll be looking out to see if I can spot you anyway (hopefully I'll recognise you from those photos and videos you posted here).

I really enjoyed this congress!
It was much smaller than the UK congress and attended mainly by dancers from Switzerland and France (there were only a handful of dancers from the UK), but I thought the quality of shows and teaching was very good (even though I struggled to follow some of the classes that were given entirely in French), and it was a well organised congress in a nice venue. Met many good and friendly dancers. It was also great to see and dance with Lita_Rulez (who is a WONDERFUL dancer! I really enjoyed dancing with you Lita -- thanks for being patient! :D), Preko and Jamie :D.
Oh, did I tell you I danced with Fernando Sosa of Tropical Gem?

Put it this way -- you don't have to be a super advanced follower to get a dance with the wonderful Mr Sosa. There! Feel better?

Nothing strange about that -- I'd feel the same!

Well ... I survived my first salsa congress !!
The workshops were great (esp. the ones in english) ... very much enjoyed the super mario / susana montera workshops which were very entertaining as well as eductional.
The evening shows were OUT OF THIS WORLD !! ... I had never seen anything like this in my life ... and I just sat gob-smaked in my seat and loved every act ... although it was difficult to concentrate with macmoto continually drawing my attention to the fact that she'd danced with some guy from tropical gem (only joking ... tho she did mention it once!).
The social dancing in the evening ... well ... I personally felt quite intimidated ... the standard was so very very high and I had come with (ill founded) ideas of how good I was ... and everyone was so good there ... I just felt like a comlete day 1 beginner ... so for me it was a very humbling experience.
I did manage to have some dances though and the times when I did relax and get in to the swings of things I enjoyed and felt I danced well (for me).
Even though I came away feeling over-awed / humbled / "I can't do it" ... etc ... I also felt deeply inspired by all the brilliant dancers there (who were also lovely people) and I felt determined to work on all the issues for me (relax / feel music / flow / join up moves / remember moves in the first place / bla bla bla) ...
On balance ... I really felt I learned a lot from the whole experience ... and the most important thing I learned is how much of a novice I truly am.
After the congress was over I hung around for another 2 days, and I have to say, Switzerland in a lovely place, beautiful countryside and fantastic people.

I only told you which of the guys was Fernando Sosa because you said you didn't remember the guy I was talking about from Friday's show because you were too busy watching his beautiful (and rather scantily clad) partner

A few videos from the Geneva Congres. Of course, nothing like what was up for the Cannes congress, as computers are a lot harder to keep in line theses days, and I must confess I am not very much into salsa lately (shame on me) but you will still find a few nice things in here :

I just love to watch inspiring dancers. This was so inspiring som I forgot to work (I used the quick line at work to download the films). My boss came when I was watching Melissa and Preko. Luckily I had my headset on so he didn't hear the music...
