Can anyone recommend a good women's styling video? Recently I have not had time to attend classes nor pay for them :(

I wondered if anyone was familiar with a video that would be worth the investment. I have never previoulsy purchased a dance video...an idea as to how much would be too much to pay for one would also be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi xstasy,

Thanks for joining the forums. I hope you have a great experience here.

It's okay, but we usually try to stay away placing links to commercial sites because it's easy for forums to get overrun by advertising. We do sometimes tolerate saying the name of the product without a link.

I am the webmaster at Dance Connection Store and they offer some good styling videos by Jami Josephson. One is called Ladies Technique and Styling. Jami is a great teacher. Another name you here a lot is Josie Neglia. If you search on any of this on Google (http://www.google.com/). I'm sure you'll find what you need.

Thank you MissAlyssa & Dancementor for the recommendation. A friend actually mentioned both names to me in the past. I will definitely look into them.

You can also check out Joby Vazquez's styling video at the salsabravapro.com site.

All are great dancers, although Josie is the only one of them I've ever danced with. I will comment, however, that one of the things that was great about dancing with her is that she finished following before trying to add styling...

What about men's styling and shines? Any recomendations? How is the Liquid Silver series?

Okay. I think I understand this. Can you expand/explain a bit more? :D

Well, the immediate thought is that Follows can get carried away with their styling to the point where they start missing leads left and right because they're thinking about their styling more than their following.

Conversely, the guy may be so taken up in "leading" he does not give the girl time to express herself

I believe Iris De Brito is an excellent instructor on afro-cuban Body movement and ladies styling judging from how packed her styling classes were at the UK congress.

Her DVD came out this summer.

I took it upon myself to check out her 'style'. Talk about hot!
Ahem, it was hard work but someone has to do the research.

I like Addie "Salsa Diva" Rodriguez styling videos. She has a few styling videos from Razz 'M Tazz series. It's a little old, but still pretty good.

Griselle Ponce has a very good ladies styling video. She's incredibly sexy :)

As for men's styling it's hard to find anything really interesting (at least for NY style dancers). Orville Small has 2 excellent DVD's but these are not styling videos.

Has anyone else seen or can anyone else reccomend these videos?
I am a poor college student, dont want to spend $50 if its not worth it.

Thanks!

Hi everyone, I'm also interested in a good mens styling DVD... any suggestions?

PS: we've used some of Josie's DVD for partnering shines and I've attended a lot of Susanna Montero's classes - both are good!!

I would recommend Liz Lira's Styling Videos for the Ladies. (LIZLIRA.com)
For the men I would recommend stuff from Alex Da Silva. (ALEXDASILVA.com)

This video is definitely worth buying. But only if you dance on 2 (because Griselle is on 2 dancer). The video contains some styling during the basic step (arms and shoulders moves for example) and several solo styling sequences. At the end all sequnces are revieved. The video is targeted for intermediate/advanced dancers.

If you haven't seen Griselle before you can check video clip of her dancing with Milton Cobo:

And with Super Mario on his Home Page:

And if you are interested in Orville Small's videos then I must say these are probably the best I've seen. And I've seen a lot of videos with many different dancers. For me the problem with salsa videos is that videos with turn patterns are usually stripped of styling. If you check out for example Salsa Brava videos then what these guys are doing there is very different from their social dance. They are showing only combinanations but not the styling. And Orville videos has styling during the turn patterns - especially the second one (Advanced Combinations). It also contains an example of Orvill's social dance at the end (with 4 different partners).

For the men I would recommend stuff from Alex Da Silva. (ALEXDASILVA.com)

Thank you for the recommendation - it looks good! I've ordered 2 DVDs from Alex da Silva, I will report in months to come (when they eventually get here!) how they are...
