Have you ever been on TV for something dance related?
Here are the two times I was on TV.
1) I danced in a commercial for the local news anchors advertising the 6 o'clock news. It was to the song "Mambo #5", and they inserted the names of the anchors after "A little bit of...."
2) I taught the dance lesson for a couple that was out on Blind Date.

i've been on an episode on gilmore girls as a swing dancer & got some face time - but only in non dancing scenes!
-----------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: spent last week on a shoot for gilmore girls' 100th episode. there were 4 scenes:

- foxtrot after wedding dance;
- swing;
- waltz;
- final scene background/closing credits;

and i think it will be easy to identify me & my partner in at least 3 of the scenes.

i've got a few pix taken during breaks (had to be taken surrepitously as WB does not permit pix of the set, etc.) which i may put up on the board.

EDIT2: to all you GG fans PM-ing me, i have nothing to contribute to spoiler web sites. i'd be happy to share what i've got pic-wise (no pics of any of the characters, mainly pics of me & a few of the stars hollow town square & one of kenny ortega dancing salsa during a break) & while i rather doubt that i've done anything any lawyer would consider actionable i'm beginning to worry that one person will grab them & post them somewhere & make me potentially liable somehow. <sigh> this is why i don't talk much about who i've worked with/for or danced with. -barry-

A couple of months ago, just before Shall We Dance came out in the cinemas there was a lot of stories on TV about dancing. A film crew came to our studio and some of the students were asked to come along to simulate a group lesson and dance in the background while they were doing brief interviews with a few people.

My big toe got pride of place when they were shooting people's feet and there were a couple of quick shots of me dancing in the background.

I was once asked a question by a tv reporter about legislators getting hefty raises and I was right outside my office in Boston. I had been at the job for about a month and my response was along the lines "well, I'm not getting a raise any time soon, why should they??" I got laid off about 4 months later....a couple of the lawyers I worked with saw it. *oops* Now I run when I see a camera.

I was on three times that I know of but none of them dance related:

1) On a kids' afternoon TV show, it was run by the local ABC TV station and had an adult interview kids, play games, and show cartoons. It was called "The Uncle Gus Show", and was not entirely unlike Krusty the Clown from the Simpsons. This was back in the mid-70's.

2) In the early 80's, on another local show. It was one of those "College Bowl" quiz shows for high school students. It was called "Tidewater Challenge."

3) Earlier this year, on "20/20" or maybe it was "60 Minutes II" or "Dateline." I can't recall which, but they were doing a piece on gay marriages in San Francisco. They had some footage from some guys getting married at City Hall, and you can see me standing at the edge of the shot and clapping for the newly-wed couple.

My husband's been on TV a lot. The first time was the most amusing. It was back in the 1994. There was a bit of excitement over someone finding porn on a server at Lawerence Livermore Labs. Turns out it was really just the alt.pictures.erotica feed on Usenet -- this was back when the web was just getting started. Anyway, someone from CNN wanted to do a story, so they called "Wired" magazine and asked my husband's boss for an interview to comment on the online world. He said he wasn't touching this, and delegated it to my husband. The CNN reporter didn't know anything about the web and asked to see the "login screen" for the Internet. Uhhh, yeah. And then the reporter asked him to find some porn to show how easy it was to access, but my husband realized how the media can slant anything so he just found a picture of Christie Brinkley in a bathing suit. As part of his comments, he said something to the effect that in any city of hundreds of thousands of people (the Web was SMALL back then) there was bound to be a red light district. Ok, now for the funny part: my husband's mother's best friend was in Japan and happened to be watching CNN International and suddenly my husband appeared on the screen talking about online porn. She called his mom to let her know, which spurred a suprised call to us. It was amusing and we all good a good laugh out of it when she asked him "what's this I hear about you being an expert on pornography?"

Nothing dance related, yet. :wink: But yes. A commercial for my alma mater (a huge conversation starter among my friends for at least a year. Those folks really needed to get a life. :lol: ) A couple PBS fundraisers. Some community service projects.

Gotta figure out how to make it to the little screen in a dance context ... :roll:

I don't know. :roll:

By that I mean, there have been three ocassions where there was a TV camera running where/when I was dancing (one was part of a documentary; the other two were for local news -- Edinburgh festival parade and charity fundraser), but since I didn't watch the actual end results (I hardly ever watch TV these days) I don't know if there was any shot of me.

I took an extended vacation visiting Europe a few years ago. Didn't even plan it this way, but happened to be in London during the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebration. I had a reporter from Singapore interview me about what I thought about it. Lol, talk about asking the wrong guy!?! :?

I know bunches of folks that really care a lot about the British royalty, but I'm not one of them. And I didn't really want to be a spokesperson representing what your typical American thought.

Never got to see if I made it onto that night's broadcast or not...

I worked on a PBS telethon once during Championship Ballroom Dancing...a bunch of people from our studio did it. Some people I know actually saw it! In February I'm supposed to do a speech for my Toastmasters club to air on local cable access. I'm just shooting for the stars, aren't I? :)

I was on our local evening News about 3 yrs. ago for approximately 3 seconds. Our local C&W nightclub was closing after 25 years and the TV cameras were out filming and inverviewing people. I was dancing and the cameras got me doing a few turns of the cowboy cha-cha. My friend taped the news and gave me a copy. My few seconds of fame! A few people at work saw the news and came over to my desk the next day to say they saw me dancing! :D

Cool DancerGal, It's neat to get on television and have a tape as a keepsake. I just remembered my wife was recently on TV for the grand opening of a jazz studio and we have a tape.

I was on TV, for all of about two seconds :D ... last January our local news was taping footage from Frankie Manning's workshop here in Phoenix. There's a shot of me while I'm in one of his classes. One of my friends was interviewed and actually got some good screen time - very cool! It was a great segment, about five minutes total.

1. I presented a show for children when I was 10.
2. I was shot during various parties in our Salsa club.
3. I was shot during various shows we put on when I was in the Salsa troop...
4. I was invited to a morning show to talk about Salsa and dance a little (with my partner).
5. I was invited to a 1 hour show dedicated to Salsa music and dance and made for a cable TV company who broadcast for Romanians living abroad.
... that's about it!

Not that I saw it properly, but a CH7 Melbourne based lifestyle/travel show did a segment on one of our riverfront salsa venues.

All I saw was two couples doing VERY flashy stuff (too bad the guys were off-beat :roll: ) right in front of the camera.....

Then everyone told me later that I was on at least 3 times, while the crew went around the dance area :? ...........

Does ending up on the floor of the studio count :lol: I was an extra for a movie that had a salsa class/scene as one of its themes a few years ago. I remember they did a whole load of filming that day (nightclub scene) and also heard about other days when they filmed at a salsa class and so. When I finally got around to watching the movie, they had had about 5 seconds of the nightclub scene showing the dancing :? which was only between the actors anyway and with the salsa classes, I didn't recognise anyone I expected to be in those scenes :roll: :lol:

It was a very interesting experience though. :lol:

Yeah, I was an extra in a made-for-TV movie filmed here in Houston by the cable network VH-1, and I thought that little "sneak peek" at the film process was cool. The movie was about a woman who becomes attracted to her Salsa instructor (surprise surprise), but I was just in the background for a non-dancing scene at a pub. I can be seen pretty clearly for a few seconds at the start of one scene, and also off-and-on behind the main actors later in that scene for about a minute. Some video clips from the movie (not including me, unfortunately) are available here:

http://www.vh1.com/shows/dyn/vh1_original_movie_she_moves/series_videos.jhtml

Also, I did appear dancing on an afternoon talk show run by our local ABC affiliate about 3 years ago. The host decided to devote an entire hour to showing different types of dances. At the time, I was part of a dance group run by my Salsa instructor, and we had a 5-minute segment including a medley of son, mambo, cha-cha-cha, and Salsa/rueda. I was just standing in the background for the first three dances, but part of the group dancing Salsa/rueda for the last 2 minutes.

My dance instructor's class was also featured for an article in our local newspaper, and I was in one of the color photographs. (With one of my favorite partners, too! :mrgreen: )

There are a few other random times when I've been on TV and mentioned in the paper (for non-dancing things), but nothing truly earth-shattering.

When I was very young I was on an after school tv program called "Showtime". The host lived sort of in our neighborhood and we would often see him driving his car. When the host put the microphone in front of me to speak all I could say was "I seen you before!" He just smiled and moved on to the next tot.

In college I did a lot of tv voice-over and commercial work, I might be best know as the Hienz Homestyle Gravy girl. :D

Often the local tv stations show up at the CT competitions and film the events, I usually get asked to speak, since we are some of the only known active competing pros. Actually one of the first times I said I loved Steve was during an interview at a comp when the interviewer asked what was so great about dancing... I replied "I get to be swept off my feet by someone I love." His parents saw the broadcast that night and flipped out (in a good way).

And then there are all of the Nostalgia/Goodlife tapings that document competitions. They stopped filming back in 2000 I think, but the shows are still broadcast and sold.
