Okay, guys, you knew this was coming. How does one find a good competitive partner? Interviews? Electronic Boards? Referrals?

1. How do pro/am differ from amateur partnerships?
2. How do you know if a partnership is working or not?
3. What are the responsibilities of a good competitive partner?
4. How do you know when to end a competitive partnership relationship?

Hmm, sorry to dig this thread out of the mothballs, and you probably already got your answer, but I'd say the best way to find a good competitive partner is to get out there and be seen. Dance at studios where there is a strong competitive presence. Frequent the competitions to not only compete, but to network, put your feelers out for potential partners, get an idea of what's going on with the present partnerships, etc..

The hardest thing about my partnerships, from what I've found, is that we never have the same goals. This is one of the most important things for a partnership and will be one of the things that will let you know how the partnership is going.

Wow, Panthra. That is good advice, and advice I hadn't heard before. Networking. Makes sense, though. I've been going to local comps -- they're a lot of them in Orlando -- to watch, and take lots of notes. I guess it can't hurt to get out there, meet people and press the flesh a little. Thank you. :D

I'd say ask your instructor/studio to send the word that you're looking. Nothing better than that!

Yes, that's also a good suggestion, MissAlyssa. Since my instructor is an independent, he may not know too many people. But he has a great network of also-independent instructors. Somebody must know somebody. :D

go to a local (or a few local) studios in your area and ask if you can post a small ad there. or even just ask them if they have any students at your level etc that might be interested in a dance partner.
