View Full Version : Forum Titles????

Hello!

I have a silly question...underneath people's names on the message boards there are little phrases:

Newcomer
Citizen
Royal Family

What do these mean? I'm assuming it has something to do with how many times you post messages. How do you get promoted to the next level and what is the highest level?

It's a cute idea.

SDsalsaguy

This same question actually came up somewhere in the Insomniacs-R-Us thread but, for ease of reference, here's the break down:

Passing Through: 0
New in Town: 3
Hired Hand: 10
Citizen: 25
Bourgeois: 50
Merchant Class: 100
Upper Class: 200
Royal Family: 300

The changing of "rank" is automatic.

MissAlyssa
09-13-2003, 09:00 PM
Yes, it has to do with how many posts you have. I don't remember all the titles but I know there are about 7. I have the highest title at the moment (dancementor and SDsalsaguy would be at the same level but they don't qualify lol) the highest title so far is "royal family". I hope DanceMentor adds more levels, it's fun to see what's next!

SDsalsaguy
09-13-2003, 09:10 PM
d nice and pygmalion are also at that level, and Vince has enough posts too. Any suggestions for further rank names/titles?

MissAlyssa
09-13-2003, 09:17 PM
nevermind.

SDsalsaguy
09-13-2003, 09:34 PM
Ok....but I'm not sure how well those really fit in with the other rank titles...others' thoughts?

MissAlyssa
09-13-2003, 09:56 PM
I can't think of anything that could come after royal family

SDsalsaguy
09-13-2003, 10:05 PM
"In Line of Succession" would make sense, but seems a bit too cumbersome methinks!

youngsta
09-13-2003, 10:10 PM
Monarch is the only thing I can come up with. Not much more after Royal Family! To bad we don't have custom titles available on this board.

SDsalsaguy
09-13-2003, 10:24 PM
What ideas do you have yongsta? DanceMentor and I could tweak things...
Just keep in mind that we want rank titles that will also make sense to those who aren't DF addicts.

youngsta
09-13-2003, 10:25 PM
What do I have in mind for a custom title?

Swing Kitten
09-13-2003, 11:35 PM
Well we can start the ranks of deity... but someone might that offensive and thus not that hot of an idea. But it gives me a chuckle!

 I can think of more ranks to go in between to work up to Royal Family...

Fuedal Lord
Merry Peasant
Illegitimate Child of the Throne (you decide where that goes  )
Entertainer (that would be below Citizen)
Court Jester/ Court Magician
Apprentice, Journeyman, Guildsman (working up to Merchant Class)
Tax Collector (below Lord)
Royal Bed Wetter

eh, just a couple of ideas (a lot of which are synominous with current ranks but it adds some levels)

SDsalsaguy
09-14-2003, 02:49 AM
Entertaining enough Swing Kitten

The trick still seems to be coming up with something beyond royal family but short of deity status...

Although I guess we could also adjust the number of posts required for each level upward a bit as well...any thoughts/reactions to that as an idea?

pygmalion
09-14-2003, 01:59 PM
What! adjust up the requirements! Eeek!

Well, okay. I guess this means I'm going have to keep posting 40 or more inane remarks daily!

I'll think about the titles, though.

Swing Kitten
09-14-2003, 03:18 PM
The idea with my previous post that by creating more levels Royal Family statis could be expanded to about 3000 posts or more. I think we'll have difficulty coming up with something in theme to be about Royal Family (I think that was the point of the cast system  )

I don't know what to do about the folks that already have royal statis... but I hear mumbling among the rebels... dunno

pygmalion
09-14-2003, 03:22 PM
Are you suggesting I'm a rebel? If you are, you're right!

We could always divide royal family into levels -- kings, dukes/duchesses, princes, etc. Then there's already a well-defined series of levels, all the way from peasant to king of the land. Just a thought.

Swing Kitten
09-14-2003, 03:34 PM
another idea could be that after a person reaches something like 1000 posts beyond the highest level they can have a personalized rank, if that's feasible, I've seen that on other boards. Thought?

SDsalsaguy
09-14-2003, 03:38 PM
Thought?
Try not to....doesn't work out that way, but still try not to

MissAlyssa
09-14-2003, 04:55 PM
Hmm, I like the prince/princess then king/queen thing. Maybe we could add that royal jester and knight status? I wouldn't mind being 'knocked down' a level or two.

Danish Guy
09-14-2003, 05:48 PM
Crowned Royal could be a +2500 post title.

Demigod Dancer could be a +5000 post title.

(But some members might get there in a couple of months)
  8)

SDsalsaguy
09-14-2003, 05:50 PM
Hmm, and Heir Apparent could come before crowned royal....

dancersdreamland
09-14-2003, 07:35 PM
Hmm...who would have though my really simple question regarding the titles would turn into such a good topic? Definately not me, but I'm glad it did. I know I've only been here for a little while, but I like the idea of ranking the royal family into different levels.

SDsalsaguy
09-14-2003, 07:42 PM
OK, so we seem to be heading in the direction of specifying placements within the royal family (in addition to maybe tweaking the rank thresholds a bit). So, in a logical order, what would the familial ranks be?

DanceMentor
09-15-2003, 04:36 PM
Ok, here is what I came up with. Do you like it? It is also possible to assign special ranks to anyone, but it must be approved by the Dance Forum Moderators. I could do things like Guildsman/Guildslady if people object to the current titles, but it just takes up more space.

New in Town 3
Apprentice 25
Citizen 50
Merry Peasant 75
Bourgeois 100
Artisan 150
Journeyman 200
Guildsman 300
Merchant Class 400
Upper Class 750
Aristocrat 1000
Feudal Lord 2000
Knight 2500
Lord 3500
Royal Family 4000
Crowned Royal 5000
Demigod 10000

I miss the citizen title.

To encourage the new in town, I purpose a little more action in the bottom of the city levels.

With +25 posts, newcomers must have contributed enough to be known in the forum, and worthy of the citizenship title. And from here it just goes forward to Royalty. 8)

Thanks, SD. There were so many iterations, I'd forgotten which ones finally stuck.

Funny. When these titles/posting levels were chosen, they seemed unattainable. Now I'm wondering if some higher levels should be added. I'm going to get to 4000 in about 5 months of membership. That means crowned royal in under a year.

Hmm. Maybe we should max out at some point, and get no further promotions. I don't think we should create levels that are impossible for some people to attain. What do you guys (and gals) think?

NeoDevin
01-02-2004, 06:35 PM
I think once you hit 15,000, you should be able to choose your own title, and change it whenever you want.

SDsalsaguy

pygmalion
01-03-2004, 09:49 AM
I thought about this while I should have been sleeping. When people reach demigod status, you get to pick your own demigod name -- like Thor, or Apollo, or Aphrodite or whatever. Kind of what NeoDevin suggested.

SDsalsaguy
01-03-2004, 10:01 AM
Umm, Jenn... those are full fledged deities (Norse and Greek, respectively), not just demigods ala Hercules.

pygmalion
01-03-2004, 10:03 AM
Eh! Whatever. It's been years since I read any mythology. It would be cool to get to pick your own name, though. Hmm. I think I'd go for Cleopatra or Nefertiti. Demigods? Maybe. At least, I think their respective people believed so.

SDsalsaguy
01-03-2004, 10:08 AM
Hmmm... maybe we could do the "Name you choose (demigod)" thing... otherwise I think it might just confuse some people. I don't think we need to finish hammering this out yet though... it'll be a while before anyone – even Jenn!  – hits that stage!
