Does your studio hold parties for holidays etc? Any of you have one for Halloween? I was thinking of asking my dance director to hold a Halloween practice party this year, costumes and all :]

The group I line dance with hosts a Halloween dance every year...complete with costumes...and it's always a blast. I highly recommend a dance party! Good luck!!!

Oh yeah! Go for it. It's much fun. The studio I used to attend had one every year, with prizes for the best costumes. And people really love it. Last year, the winner came as the invisible man. No fooling. He wore all black, wrapped his face in black bandages, and wore a cool tan fedora! Excellent.
I went as the tiger lady, ears and all! what fun!

Yeah, the studio I go to always holds a Halloween party and it is the only one here that holds a New Year's Eve dance.

MissAlyssa, do any of the Phoenix area studios do New Year's Eve?
I don't think the Paragon does.

It's the most notable one from that cemetary; there's other good ones as well.

Speaking of Halloween and dress up, do you have a costume ready? We get to dress up at work...the one plus about my job...and I am SOOO excited.
I was going to spend my entire Labor Day weekend working on wedding plans and ended up working on my Halloween costume instead. Can't wait to wear it...I'm going as Miss Moulin Rouge! I'll have to take pictures and get one posted after the 31st.
My apologies...I digress from the original topic. Just had to share!

Mine's a Phoenix Suns basketball uniform; the old road one which is the appropriate colors. Very easy and inexpensive compared to others I see.

I think you should go for tiger lady. Lots of cleavage and lots of legs ... and a tail and ears. Can't beat that.
Of course, I didn't win the costume contest ... because WOMEN were judging it!

Now that's a costume...I'm think next year I'll have to be Miss Velma Kelly...lots of leg, lots of clevage, lots of sass...no tail, but I'll get to carry a toy gun! :P

If the ladies want to really look sexy they should dress as a waitress from Hooters. I went to the local one here yesterday to watch football.

Good costume, suggestion, Spitfire, but it would require me to get reconstructive surgery!
Just kidding, and just curious. What is is guys find so fascinating about those hooters girls, anyway? Is it the cut-off crop tops, the daisy dukes short shorts, or what?
What have they got that the rest of us ordinary mortal females haven't got?
Don't answer. Leave my ego in tact, please.

I worked for a studio for the longest time where the religious beliefs of the owners kept us from celebrating holidays.
- No Halloween
- No New Year's Eve
- No Christmas
They believed that we should have parties because we wanted to have a party, but we couldn't have them for the above reasons.
I always found this peculiar but I learned to work with it. However, we never had a great party program.

Good point, DM. I had forgotten all about that. Two years ago, the studio I attended did have issues with a couple students who got upset over the Halloween party for religious reasons.
Better chat with your dance director, MissAlyssa. :?

Wanna know what you "mortal females" here have that the others anywhere don't including Hooters?
You can dance; a dancing woman holds all the aces, right guys? 8)

The uncanny ability to perform simple daily tasks with about twelve extra pounds of silicon on their bodies

Getting back to my suggestion - I said to dress like them; not look exactly like them and then are you ready to cha-cha?
Or any dance for that fact. Just let the good times roll. :D

Ah, nothing stronger then coffee for me plus a sandwich. That's how I enjoy my football and will work for dancing as well.
I've heard that there's a lot of great dancing in Florida. Salsa in particular.

Staying on topic here . . .
Our studio is having a dance this weekend. WCS, ECS, Lindy, NC2S, Hustle, Cha Cha, Waltz, Salsa, and some C&W.
You are all invited!!!

Gosh come to think of it, none of the studios we go to had Halloween parties. We usually go to our C&W nightclub. They always have a Halloween party with prizes for best costume. We usually have a great time and a lot of dancing. It would be nice if the studios would do it though. I haven't even thought of a costume yet. Oh woe it me!!! I'm not even ready!!
Hey Vince, where's your dance studio? Don't say Modesto, 'cause that's too far for us. :D You didn't go to Michelle dance this Sunday did you?

We're trying to talk the studio that we go to to have a Halloween party . . . I have such a great idea for a couples costume . . kinda dirty in thought, but very clean in execution!!!
dancergal . . . no, it's not in Modesto . . . it's in Oakdale, Ca . . . the Cowboy Capital of the World!!! That's even further for you! Melody Cochran will be there all day doing privates and I hope she stays for the dance, so I can Cha Cha with her :D

The studio I used to attend had a GREAT party lineup, with at least one or two theme parties every month. Every major holiday, of course, plus other weird ones. Like pajama parties, hula parties, 70's parties, any theme you can think of. People LOVED it. The ballroom dance demographic here is mostly unattached 30 to 50-year-old people, who have lots of time on their hands. And theme parties go over BIG!
I have to admit, they ARE fun. :D
Spitfire
09-25-2003, 09:45 PM
Examples of theme parties we've had are Alice in Wonderland, James Bond, Arabian Nights as well as the common 50's sock hop, luau and holidays. 8)
I agree that they are fun and get the best turnouts. :D

Well our studio is having it's second party this month and the halloween one is tomorrow. This studio is great in that every 3 weeks (or less, if a competition is coming up) we have a party, theme'd usually. Plus, most people or couples have to perform a routine every second party, really helps get the nerves out of the system. Plus where else can you dress up like a Mountie and dance!
Spitfire
10-22-2003, 09:16 PM
And for once the Halloween dance won't conflict with the monthly swing dance generally held on the 4th Saturday of each month; first time I can actually attend both. 8)

For those of you who attended a Halloween dance how did yours go?
Mine was great - as usual. I found it a good place to bring all my leftover candy as the neighborhood trick or treaters had pretty much come and gone by that time; not as many anymore as there was when I was a kid.
