A former student of mine has opened a new studio in Boston called eXtreme Danceport (http://www.extremedancesport.com). I just got a note from him that the Grand Opening Dance is this Friday January 21.

I hope everyone around the Boston area goes...it sounds like a fun time!

It's worth pointing out that they are hosting the Sunday half of Stephen and Jennifer Hillier's visit to Boston on February 5/6. If anyone wants outstanding coaching in the classic English style, you have a hard time finding a better opportunity.

I didn't realize he was a student of yours, Larinda. Wonderful guy! I hope he does very well with his studio.

I was Steve's first teacher...just for a short time until his company moved him. It is really really nice to see someone blossom into a great dancer.

Yes, he even dances well in flip flops! Not many guys can lay claim to that. He's also ALWAYS smiling. Hopefully, that will continue!

I wonder if using the word "eXtreme" in the title, and the use of this word being associated with other sports that do as follows, will attract a high ratio of new young people into this wonderful activity?

I hope so. :D

I don't know if the name drives the clientel or rather I think it is the other way around. It is a very young, college age, driven group of dancers. Seems like the name describes them very well.

They are unlike most studios in that, I believe, the purpose of the studio is more for dancers to bring in their coaches, or for practice. Rather than a studio setting where students buy lessons. Interesting concept, and rather innovative. A studio for amateurs, run by amateurs.

Looks like Charlotte Jorgensen will be visiting eXtreme Dancesport on March 18-20. And Eugene Katsevman will be there March 19 and 20.
Wow what a hopping place.

I'm almost too intimidated to set foot in the place!

But I will!

MQ, you are young at heart, despite being a responsible adult now ... go for it! ;)

Oh ... and does anyone know if they host social dances?

(DP, why don't you try checking out the website, silly.)

I did, the calendar doesn't show any social events. How about that, conscience.

(Ok, DP, but becareful, maybe you just overlooked it.)

It's new, DP. I suspect the calendar will evolve. 8)

And dang! I'd love to be there. They've got some great stuff scheduled for my dreaded birthday weekend.

Ah, ha! Over on the right hand side of the home page ...

Saturday, March 26th, 8pm-12pm, a Ballroom & Latin Dance Party!

Looks like my conscience was correct again. ;)

I may trek down there for that one. I really like to support people who are starting out, especially really nice ones.

I have coaching with a pro that day, so depending on how I come out of that....*LOL*

And hopefully my knee will be feeling better. It's driving me crazy, and the pain is shifting from area to area around my knee. I don't like that.

Jenn...the "dreaded" birthday...meaning a special number??? Let me know and I'll put some candles in a cupcake and celebrate with my kids!

LOL. No. Just meaning that every birthday is dreaded, these days.

Good luck with the knee. Any idea what's causing the pain? A strain or sprain? :?

I'm not really sure what it is with my knee; but I am sure that it was overworked because I've been working out just about every day since last November and getting harder and harder on it. Then, I did jive for a whole lesson, which I'm sure didn't help! I can usually tell if it's a muscle pull, but I've only had muscle pulls in the hamstring or quad....

I am sure I should just be resting and perhaps icing it, but you know how that goes....easier said than done.

My shoulder is still giving me a little problem, too, so I can either exercise the right half of my body, or go for the abs. Blech....

MQ, when I had knee injuries in college back during my running days, complete with torn cartiledge and all that funn stuff like water on the knee, I would use water frozen in very small dixie cups, tear around the edge of the cup and give my knee an ice massage. I would just continually swirl the ice around the knee every day after practice. It worked very well!

Hope you are taking care of the knee. Becareful on it, and maybe a week off from dancing might be a good idea (DP ducks as the empty shoe bag comes flying at him). ;)

I'm might try to go down to this event, too! :D

LMAO! Take away my computer....my cross-trainers....my husband....just not my dancin' shoes!

What I did this weekend that worked well was wear some stretchy-type pants and stuff a bag of ice on the knee (under the pants). It couldn't move because of the "snugness" of the pants. Seemed to work okay. Knees are just such a bad invention....

I'll let you know if I go to that dance. I'm itching to see the studio. Of course, I will be putting miles on the car as I have to schlep up your way for my lesson earlier in the day.

Yeah, but at least it will be for a dance lesson. ;)

Notice the shoe bag was described as being empty, cause I figured the shoes were already on your feet. ;)
