...is my favorite thing ever!!!! dont deny it, you guys do it too! its the best dancing. unco-ordinated, clumsy, energetic dancing. What do u dance to when you dance around your empty house?
amoung my favorites are:
what a feeling- Irene Cara
Hungry Eyes-DD soundtrack
Dirrty-Christina Aguilera (ok, ok, i know.. )
Also theres various 80's cd's i find and use. Then I get to singing. Oh God...*Shes got Bette Davis Eyes...* haha ok. now i've devulged too much. Your turn!

How did you know? I like to do the 80's, 90's and today medley while dancing around the house. You know. A little Journey, a little Sade, a little Beyonce. Whatever I get my hands on first.

Thank goodness for curtains!

I like old school House and Hip-Hop for that! De La Soul, Jungle Brothers, Digital Underground.

do you guys do the singing in the hairbrush too?

pygmalion
09-16-2003, 05:46 PM
Only under the most trying of circumstances.  Actually, I don't use the hairbrush as a prop anymore. I just sing at the top of my lungs while I'm dancing. That way, I can practice my arm-styling at the same time!

no hairbrush for me, I have an imaginary wireless condenser mike pinned on me!

I do a lot of dancing in the bathroom. It's a pretty big bathroom and there are mirrors on 2 walls. I also do it in the living room for the smooth dances. A couple of times I've had neighbors stop and watch, but when I look their way they keep walking and act like they didn't see me.

pygmalion
09-16-2003, 06:53 PM
That's exactly why you need to shut the curtains. To heck with the neighbors! Let's JUST DANCE!

Hmm...dancing in the house would have to be "Slave 4 U" by Miss BS, really anything by BS. Also "Dirty" by Miss CA, again really anything by CA. "Miss Independent" by Kelly Clarkson. I know there are more, just can't think of any at the moment.

Singing in the hairbrush...a must! My favorite song to sing into a prop is "Free Falling"...not sure of the artists. Kitchen spoons, the big plastic ones used for stirring hot food, also work well for microphones if a brush isn't real handy (curly hair...only picks in the home)

Freefallin' as in Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers? Excellent tune!!!!!

I've been caught more than once dancing in my panties to Al Green while cooking dinner.

pygmalion
09-18-2003, 09:45 AM
TMI! (too much information) Allison.

I agree, though, there's nothing like a mild state of undress to make those dance moves really shine.

And what songs by Al Green? Smooth, smooth, smooth. There are a couple really good Al Green WCS tunes -- I'm trying to remember the titles. But I think I'll always like "Call Me" best. Also, must sing along with good old Rev. Al! Good stuff.

Allison

Most often, its "Love and Happiness". The song provides for nice hip action.

Oh yes!!!

There have been times when Care and I have literally Waltzed around the house . . . no one else was home . . . no music, other than the music we were making . . . such fun . . . trying to chasse' around a kitchen island!!!
Yeow . . . watch those corners . . . make some coffee . . . do a 2 Step.

I don't think we ever stop dancing.

She wanted to go out and practice last night at 7:30 and she had 4 hours of Pro-Am privates at noon. Great woman!

I would defintaly have to agree..and (sorry in advance for the TMI) dancing in the undies is the best!

Plus, undie dancing is being captured in the movies...Britney Spears in one of the first scenes of Crossroads and Cameron Diaz in Charlie's Angels.

It's much fun for boys and girls, but if you can't be convinced, you can't. ( meaning -- You'll come arouind one of these days when you least expect it, I bet.  )

Now I wonder. Is there any way to get this thread back on topic? Somehow I doubt.

dancersdreamland
09-20-2003, 09:27 AM
Yes, SD...one day when you least expect it, there you'll be...getting ready one morning or preparing for bedtime when all of a sudden, you'll have the instinctive urge to dance. The music will be blaring, and there you'll be with only underpants...(hey, that kinda rhymed...okay, I'll admit...I'm a BIG dork)...dancing the morning (or night) away. Just wait, when you least expect it, it will creep up on you and take control. Then, you'll be hooked for life!

How was the AZ comp?

pygmalion
09-30-2003, 08:13 PM
I guess it's been a busy week or two for MissAlyssa, so we'll have to wait to find out about her comp.

Back to the dancing around the house subject, one of my favorite things to do is get some weird music, like this CD I have of just drumming -- master drummers from Guinea, or something like that -- clear the floor, sometimes close my eyes, and let my body move to the music. Sometimes I'll just flow from one dance to another to another. A waltz becomes a bolero, becomes a salsa, becomes a foxtrot. I don't let myself become constrained by the music's time signature; I just dance whatever my body feels. Especially in the dark or semi-darkness, I feel free to just move. Anybody else?

dancersdreamland
09-30-2003, 11:26 PM
How fun!!! What a great way to lose all your inhibitions and just DANCE! I'll have to give that a try.

Some GREAT music for getting a little hip action (belly dance) is anthing by Hossam Ramsy. He's the BEST!!!! I'll have to put him on and just let loose sometime soon!

Thanks for the SUPER idea!!!!

Well from what I understand, you can't ever dance ballet after a certain age because your bones have not grown the way they would need to in order to dance the dance. For example, I would never be able to do a turn out, which is probably essential for ballet. Tap maybe I could. Perhaps someday I will. It is a lot cuter when 4 year old do it though. I can't imagine myself on a stage tap dancing next to a bunch of 4-7year olds. That would be hilarious

Did you graduate yet?? I would imagine most universities would offer a beginning tap course. (my undergrad did... but I was shocked to discover that UConn has zilch for a dance program!! I huge school like this and no dance except for a ballroom club?? And they're pretty limited in the ceramics area as well :( )

Yes I have graduated, and believe it or not am actually working...well sort of -- aren't I supposed to be working now? I'm at school and it's 10:45am. I should be getting things ready for my next student, but I'm here instead. This post should probably be on the "You know you're addicted to the forums when" thread.

I'm certainly NOT an expert, but there are places that offer specifically adult beginner classes. I'm having a little trouble getting in somewhere with ballet, but I just began taking tap about a year and a half ago. I'm in a group with mostly 40-60 year old woman. Last year we actually got to perform...it was SUPER fun.

- at school down the hallways, before, during and after class
- in my dreams
