Anyone ever do a triathalon??? It's on my list of "to do before I die." Just wondering how you deal with your weaker area (obviously practice....). For me, swimming is not great. I never had real lessons, so I don't do it properly, although I can do laps in a pool. I imagine in a triathalon, I'd be in something with waves....which is hard to get practice in where I live.
Just wondering if people do this, like it, have problems, etc.

I did a relay triatholon when I was in college.
There were four of us. We were a pair of roommates competing in a dorm competition. I did the running, my roommate and one of the other guys paired up for the full sized canoe leg, and the last guy did the bike.
It was a 5k run, an up & back canoe ride, and a 10k bike. Rather short all the way around.
We got first place for teams, but one guy who did the whole thing by himself even finished ahead of us!
It would be neat to do a real triatholon some day ... but age is creeping in now. ;)

So, which guy carried the keg?? *LOL*
I know what you mean about the age thing, but all the more reason to get crackin' on this!
I do!!!
I do!!!
I am doing the Florida Ironman this year (eek!).
I suggest you try it. As soon as possible. Dont' wait to get in shape, because you will never be ready. Just go out and do it, and don't be afraid to come in last.
Q: what do they call the last place finisher in a triathalon?
A: a triathlete
Go for it! If you have any specific questions (or general questions) ask! I love to talk about this sport!
on swimming: it is the smallest percentage of the race, and many times you can wear a wetsuit. There are always canoes and kayac's to help you, so you are never in any danger. Most athletes (except me) think swimming is the least fun part. Personally, I hate the run.. but thats just me.
Just go for it, you can do a breast stroke for the entire swim, and you will not be the last one out of the water (I have seen people do it).

If you want to improve your swimming technique, check to see if there's a Master's swimming program at one of the pools in your area. This is a competitive swimming program for adults of all ages and levels. You could go to some coaching sessions and improve your efficiency in the water. It won't necessarily make you fast, but it will help you stay relaxed through that leg and keep you from wasting unnecessary energy that you'll need for the legs you are better at. Try using Google to do a search on
master's swimming program city name
where city name is the name of the city where you live, or nearby areas.

That sounds like a good suggestion Laura. I saw an ad for one of those programs here. 8)
Do you actually have a list of things to do before you die, MQ? Hmm. Maybe I'll have to make a list. Up to this point, I've always assumed I'd just live forever. But, thanks to cocodrilo, I now know I'm going to die at 85 of a heart attack!  So maybe I'd better get focused here.
