Which dances have unique elements or require skills not (or rarely) associated with others? Which ones don't?
For example, in ballroom, tango is clearly different. And while waltz and foxtrot have many similarities, they also have differences at least in their basics.
I was trying to think if there was anything really unique about syllabus quickstep and the skills for dancing it... and I'm thinking not. Open quickstep of course has all the Charleston and Polka stuff that isn't in the other standard dances, but syllabus quickstep seems mostly a rehash of waltz and foxtrot ideas, though with greater emphasis on some of them. (well, maybe the tipsy... but that seems to be syllabus only in order to function as preview)
