I'm not much for current day prime time drama and sitcom, but enjoy watching documentaries on THC, TLC, A&E and Discovery since that deals with real life stuff.

As far as drama and sitcom are concerned my favorites of all time have to be The Munsters and the old day time soap Dark Shadows - now that one has to be the most unusual program ever aired.

Oh, and I also like to watch sporting events such as MNF.

What are yours?

Contemporary: Law and Order (although the episodes a few years ago were better) and Bravo's Inside the Actor's Studio (Clint Eastwood episode coming up October 5 :D :D I love Clint)

Vintage: Too many to count.

Dark Shadows was a hoot. I grew up on it, watching good old Barnabas Collins forget his lines on screen. Live TV must been really tough for the actors.

Danish Guy, great taste in sci-fi.

I love Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. It's a fabulous show.
Futurama, Simpsons, Adult Swim and Toonami (sucker for anime), South Park, and the Daily Show.

I'm addicted to 24 in a big way.

My favorites include I Love Lucy, the Simpsons, and the Dick Van Dyke Show. ... Looney Toons too with my favorite directors being Chuck Jones and Tex Avery.

I've never seen Queer Eye but the premiss sounds interesting-- I don't really watch TV eight months out of the year.

Back in high school I used to be a big Star Trek fan... my interest waned with DS9 and never really recovered... and theater took up more and more of my time and I discovered puppetry.

I purchased some Dark Shadows videos I found at a used bookstore here (a place where incidently a swing dance is held). To this day most of the episodes I have never seen since it aired while we were all in school and the only time I could see it was during summer and Christmas vacation.

Yeah, the actors did tend at times to have some trouble with their lines, but it was realistic IMO.

I don't know if it still does, but Dark Shadows came on the SciFi channel for quite a while, at like 11:00 or 11:30 AM Eastern. That's when I caught up on all the stuff I missed as a kid. At the time, I lived very close to work, so I'd take an early lunch, drive home, watch two episodes, and then back to work in just over an hour. Ahh. Good stuff. :D

And yes, those actors were great. The ad libbing they did! And never a true disaster that I remember coming from live TV. (Although I'm sure there were some  )

Remember all the uproar several years ago when that hospital drama (was it ER?) had ONE live episode? You'd have thought something major was going on. There are people back in the day who did live TV shows every day for years, and in times when a TV season had 46 or 50 episodes. Now THAT's acting! :D

Yay! I checked and it still comes on. The sci fi channel web site has searchable listings by time zone. Barnabas Collins, here I come! :D

Yes DS is still being shown on Sci-Fi, but I don't get that station anymore. I did watch it a few years ago when Sci-Fi was on my cable system and was able to see all the episodes from just before Barnabas Collins goes back to the 1890's to the end, but that still leaves at least half that I've never seen.

I have never seen ER.

Oh my goodness yes. You missed all kinds of good stuff, which I won't spoil for you. It's definitely worth getting some stuff on video to catch up with the beginning -- like Barnabas showing up in the first place. Wow! According to the sci-fi channel listings, in September, they're showing episodes 820 up to about 890 or 900, so that wouldn't help you any, anyway. I'll keep an eye open from when they start up again. Keep in touch. I wouldn't mind taping some episodes to share. :D

I have seen the one where Barnabas arrives grabbing ol' Willie Loomis by the throat when Willie breaks into his coffin to steal his jewelry. What I'm really interested in seeing are all the pre-Barnabas episodes.

As a kid I didn't start watching it until it was in it's second year. I was at Boy Scout camp that summer and one of the other kids told me about some program that came on every day in the afternoon that was about a vampire, but he couldn't think of the name of it. Now: King of The Hill, The Simpsons, Futurama, Seinfeld (in syndication), ER, CSI, 24, some Drew Carey

Vintage: 1960's Batman, 60's Star Trek (w/ Shatner), Get Smart, Sanford and Son, All In The Family, any Quinn Martin production, cop shows from the 60's and 70's in general, the original Dance Fever, KOJAK, Lost In Space, Time Tunnel, Gunsmoke, and many cartoons like The Pink Panther (until they made him talk, that destroyed it), Cool McCool, The Super 6 (a hilarious 'toon about a temp agency for superheroes called Super Services, featured dimwit heroes like Super Scuba, and Captain Zammo, who would spout out these long-winded monologues while his sidekick took all the beatings), Bugs Bunny, Wile E Coyote, Ant and The Aardvark (how could you not love a blue aardvark with a heavy NY Yiddish accent?) and I'll probably remember more later.

Futurama, Law and Order (the original and the new side kick series are both awesome) are my other absolute favorites!

I'm not quite so crazy, now. But I really love that show. I haven't even tried to watch the spin-off. can't get hooked on another show!

7th Heaven (WB)
Charmed (WB)
Dance Fever (taped from ABC Family channel...still waiting to get the tapes from my mom)
The Wade Robson Project (taped from MTV...again, waiting on tapes)

That's really the only TV I have time for...I know, big nerd!

10-02-2003, 05:50 AM
No Dr. Who fans? What!

Just for the record, Dr. Who was one of the longest running sci-fi TV shows ever, if not the longest-running. It was produced in Britain, starting in the early sixties, and lasted well in to the eighties. Broadcast on public TV in the US for years. And all over the world, mostly in English-speaking countries. A cult classic, complete with conventions and international fan clubs.

Really hokey special effects, but still worth checking out if you're a sci-fi fan. Good stuff.

There are actually stories about entire villages in Britain coming to a halt when Dr. Who episodes came on - it was before the advent of the VCR, and the show was just that popular.

Check it out! :D

Others include:

Whose Line is it Anyways?
Seinfeld
I Love Lucy
Dick Van Dyke
Mary Tyler Moore
Star Trek (the next generation)
Cosby Show
Three's Company
The Simpsons
Space Ghost Coast to Coast
The David Letterman Show (we're going to it on Oct. 13th)

I'm sure that would pay for itself in no time -- and I'm only talking about using it for one's own personal dancing!

Think of all the "virtual coaches" you could have! Nio traveling and hotel bills, no airfares to fly the in, no hourly rates. Also note how scheduling lessons wouldn't be a problem...nor finding practice space...

And for all those having trouble finding the right partner, well tah-dah! You can program one to your exact specifications! I'm in Swing Boo...see if they'll give us a discount on two! :D

The best part is that it runs on a 9-volt battery.

Of course you'll have to watch out for holodeck sickness. Yes it's true. If you think these forums are addictive, imagine what having your own fantasies come alive at your fingertips would do. Luckily though, Dr. Beverly Crusher comes in an emergency panel and she will be able use her scanner to help you.

All of your ideas are great SD! I would love to create imaginary dances with all people you want to be there, real and fictional... and the music as well. You could have Frank Sinatra in person, or the local bar band down the street. Whatever. The skies the limit :D

Wow, you guys brought back some memories. I used to watch DS too after school, but I also didn't see it until it was near the end. I don't remember much of the episodes. I do remember that Barnabas was trying to be good, but then was changed back into a vampire, and we were so upset that we stopped watching it....for a day or two. ha ha! And what about Angelic? I remember her too, and some guy that was a Werewolf who's name I can't remember. I would LOVE to find some old DS tapes. I never thought of checking the video stores, but now I will.

oh favorite TV shows: I don't watch a lot of TV since I'm hardly home, but I try to catch CSI, Las Vegas and Miami and Court TV investigates crimes. I love criminal and who-done-it shows. I used to watch Perry Mason and Star Trek was a favorite too. What about the "Twilight Zone?" I loved that show.

Yes. There's a bunch of stuff on video. About ten years ago, the shows starting coming on Sci-Fi, and at the same time Columbia House (I think) issued a bunch of episodes on video. Hmm. The sci-fi channel broadcasts are at about episode 850 of 1250, so where does that put us? Probably about ready to return from the 1800's. Good timing. I'll tape it tomorrow morning. It comes on here at 8:00 AM. Sigh. Good stuff! :D

But still .... maybe I'll check out the scifi website. It has synopses of many episodes. Maybe I'll pick my favorites (Rev. I LOVE Mr. Bean...not the movie, just the show. He is SOOOOO hilarious. My absolute favorite epsiode has to be where he's at a hotel and has discovered the remote control for the TV.

He starts out in his hotel room, clicking the TV on and off with the remote. He tries it under the blankets and from different areas in the room...then into the bathroom, the hallway, the lobby, other people's rooms. The funniest part is, he clicks it on in one spot (like the lobby), runs upstairs to his room to make sure its on, runs back to some other place, clicks to turn it off, then runs back to his room to check.

Absolutly hilarious!

This nutcase has just been to the Galileo7 convention in Germany. I had the opportunity to shake hands with “Admiral Janeway”, “Q”, and “Tasha Yar” among others.

Personally I think it’s great fun to meet some of the actors, and hear some of the stories behind the scenes, both on the sci-fi or whatever else they have done. According to the actors, there is a big difference to the conventions in Europe and USA.

According the nutcases / nerds. Yes, they are there. But they are “mostly harmless”. It’s impressive that this kind of conventions is the only place the stars can move freely among the fans without a bodyguard.

I met “Data” last year. Brent Spiner is really entertaining.

A short funny story is about Data’s cat Spot. In a period there was this line in the script. Data watches Spot “do something”. Spot never could his line. When he should be sleeping, he was awake the whole day, When he should look at the goldfish he didn’t and so on. The only thing they ever managed to get in the first take was “Data watches Spot eat tuna”.

Sounds a lot like the BBC's "Would Like to Meet".

Is there an American version of "What Not to Wear", or do you also get Susannah and Trinny?

I think you're referring to Date Patrol, which is another good show.

Buffy
Angel
B5
Cheers
Mash
Seinfeld
Married with children
Simpsons

I enjoy most of the leightweight comedies too, like Nanny, King of Queens, Everybody loves Raymond and stuff like that. But it's on a 'watch them if they happen to be on when I turn on the telly'-basis.

Anything involving drama. Lately, I've added The West Wing and Judging Amy to my list. :)

There are some that are good and some that just don't my fancy. I justrecord the shows and zip through them to find the ones that pull me in.

Hey Monty! Welcome--thanks for reviving this old thread. I am reminded that Pygmalion is a long-time Dark Shadows fan which just supports my ongoing theory that we are soul mates tragically separated by circumstance.

For me, now....

Southpark
Entourage

I like The Riches on FX with Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver. Different.
Eddie is a funny guy.
Has anyone seen this?

Also love all the decorating shows on HGTV.

I haven't heard of that, but I love Eddie Izzard. What is it about?
I like Veronica Mars and Arrested Development, and have a weak spot for bad reality TV.

elegance, Eddie and Minnie play the parents of a family of "Travelers," like "white gypsys" they said. Eddie has his chances to be funny. He produced and co-wrote it, too!
