View Full Version : Affection for Dance Shoes?

I have this really strange emotional attachment to my dance shoes. I wear Addidas All-stars that have been modified with chrome leather on the bottom. I've been wearing them since last January, and with all the miles danced in them they're starting to look worn and the chrome leather is starting to peel. I just can't bring myself to get a new pair of shoes. It's like all the marks and scratches are war wounds. You know? They tell a history. I feel guilty when I think about abandoning them.

yeah I'm a freak

Me too Boo . . .
I love shoes and I love dance shoes. Although I have several pairs of dance shoes, I mostly wear dance sneakers . . . they allow me to do every dance that I do, which most of the time I have to switch shoes. I just cannot Waltz in Tango shoes, etc.

I've had most of my shoes re-soled with the chrome leather, but still hang in there with the dance sneakers!

I'm the freak too!!!

While I don't swing, I do have a few pair of dance shoes, but I have this par of shoes that must have about 2 million miles in them. yet, I refuse to re-sole them, or change them at all. They feel like part of my body, and just because they aren't as they were at a younger time I can't do away with them, nor change their appearance. :) They seem like an extension of my feet...

You'd think that with all the dance shoes I have, I wouldn't be attached to any one pair, but what can I say?  I have one pair at a time that are just total faves. My first pair of dance shoes literally started falling apart before I tossed them, and I almost cried. Now, my practice shoes are getting all desperate and scruffy-looking. But do I care? Nope. Actually, I think I'm going to buy another pair just like them as replacements, but not until I have to. Those shoes feel just right. It's sad, isn't it?

Ah... a topic close to my heart.

I have way to many shoes in general... I've had this one pair of dance shoes... for about six or seven years I think. I've had the heels replaced with leather heels years and years ago and they were my "magic shoes" I could slide so far with so little effort. Nice. But after years of hard use, they are held together more by Shoe Goo than by the original adhesive/stiching. The heels have worn down so the cobbler nails are starting to show. *sniff*

Let's have a moment of silence for our dance shoes that have finally given up the ghost...

Okay so I have another almost two dozen shoes... but they were special. Then again so are my gray and pale green 10 1/2 Gator and snake loafers... Though they look like they were made out of road kill at this point, scuffed and such as they are (if only my partners were as light on my feet as they are on their own).

I need to get a new pair of eye catching shoes and then get the heels converted... Now to find the time and money to do so.

I'm sort of attached with my shoes. But I try not to be.

A lot of people have this affectation with their Chucks.
I have it more for hats. I wore a cap (not the newsboy types, this is more sleek) backwards for years before replacing it. I couldn't wash it b/c the brim interior was cardboard, but the black was fading a little and it looked like I had worn it for years (I did!). I couldn't find any cap similar for a long long time and would not stop wearing it.
A year and a half ago I was in an H&M store and found a similar cap for $6, black with white pinstripes! I also bought a sold black one like my old one. Can't find the pinstriped one anymore, should've bought two...

Oh yeah! I always do that. When I find an item of clothing that I love thatfits just right? I buy as many as I can afford, then wear them interchangeably.

I may be crazy, but what the heck.

I used to get really attached to dance shoes, but it gets kind of dull after you kill enough pairs, y'know? At least, it did for me. I do get excited about new shoes, and I wear them till they start falling apart, but as soon as they feel like they don't give me the support I need, out they go! My feet are way more important.

I still have my first pair of dance shoes. Sparkly latin shoes with the glitter wearing off in spots. They are pretty worn out, but they were my first pair. I can't even get into them anymore, but I still have them. I just can't toss them. All four of my nieces have had a great time playing dress up with them. Now, none of them would fit in them either.

I hate my shoes, but that because they aren't dance shoes... my war wounds are on the backs of my heals, haha.

Dumb Question - What is chrome leather? Is that different then regular leather soles?

Wow, they lasted so long. It took me only a little bit under a year to wear the heels down to the cobbler nail

My favorite dance shoes are my first pair I bought 4 years ago. Then the heel fell off at a dance convention. I keep intending to get it fixed but haven't yet. So now I'm wearing a pair of shoes that I bought a while ago and didn't like, but now they are my favorite shoes once I broke them in. I have to say now that I want new shoes. I noticed a lot of women dancing WCS have switched to a cute sandel shoe with a nice big heel, not too high, insted of those tiny heels. I have a pair of open toed dance shoes that I only wear when I dress up (which is mostly Christmas or New Year's ) that have that tiny heel and I don't feel comfortable dancing in them. Anyway, I'm thinking I need some cute shoes to dance in and I'm ready to switch. I'm tired of the black practice shoes. So soon I'll be shopping for new shoes (but it's hard letting go of my favorite shoes).

The only reason I have an answer to this is that I've been shopping on a lot of dance shoe sites lately. Apparently, "chrome leather" is another term for suede. Don't ask me why!

Thanks! Celeste is one of our two. We also have a jet-black short hair who disappears in shadows!

BTW, there's a reason Celeste showed up in the avatar. Check this out:

Back to the kitty. Such nice long fur - what kind is she? We have no idea. She was abandoned on our neighborhood and adopted us. We think she has some of the characteristics of Maine Coon, though.

Her fur is very fine. It weaves itself into all the fabric in our house. Or it pills up into little fur balls that stick to everything!

Her nickname is "fluffy cat."

I thought she looked like a Maine Coon. Fluffy ruff, super soft fur, tufted paws, extra long tail? Aren't they adorable? I just love ours to pieces. She likes to dance with me.

Yeah, she has all of that. When she was a kitten, her tail looked particularly long.
