Am happy :) Had a very good dancing night. Gosh, when I was dancing with this guy, I had my eyes closed, yet I knew exactly what he wanted me to do & could let go of myself completely. My body felt like it was burning - every little sense in my body seemed to be awake! I could response to the subtle leads that I'd normally miss.. I felt truely liberated! :D
How wonderful! Will you have the opporutnity to dance with him again?

My friend wanted to store some stuff in my place, and so I say ok. Now she gets this kid whom she tutors to help her. I come home and find that a laptop, cd player have definitely been taken. Plus...I think some CDs. I don't know as I haven't listed them all yet!! I have 400 plus Cds worth 1000s of dollars in total, and some probably were taken. I'm furious. Absolutely furious!! I want an apology from the kid and parents. If I don't have my things back within 24 hours and the apology I am going to call in the cops.
That terrible! Good choice on calling the cops within 24 hours. I hope everything turns out alright in the end, and then you get all your belonging back.

A woman phones her office, telling him she won't be coming in today. He asks her what the matter is and she replies "I have anal glaucoma." "Anal glaucoma? What's that?" asks the boss. The woman replies "I can't see my @ss coming into work today!"
Hilarious! :bouncy:

Yup :D He's not a out of town salsero which is great :) Although.. I don't always click so well with him... have had lots of mediocre dances with him before.. I think he's a repetitive performer, as in quite stable in the way he dances whereas me being a beginner dancer, I can be pretty good while sometimes not so great. So if I can be a repetitive performer like him, I suppose there'd be more chance of getting that fix from him :D I look forward to continuous improvement in my dancing 8)

Returned home pretty late after a graduation party for my younger half-sister. Things with my dad's side of the family (my parent's are divorced and I grew up with my mom making my dad a stranger since we lived on opposite ends of the US with rare visits) have gotten so much better since our wedding. Not sure what changed, but I really like it.
Normally a full day with my dad's side of the family (grandma, grandpa, dad, two half sisters, one half brother, one full brother, one great aunt, five uncles and aunts with tons of cousins) would be insanely scary and boring for me...but since our wedding I actually enjoy seeing the family and am getting to know everyone better. It's so good to patch up old wounds, forgive, forget and move on or simply start over!

DF is unpredctable on American holidays. Sometimes it's incredibly busy. Other times (like today) it's really slow. Not sure why, but it seems that there are at-home holidays, like Thanksgiving, where people log in more. And there are hanging out with friends holidays (like Memorial Day, which is this weekend) where people are hanging out with friends.  I'm sure things will pick up by Monday evening, US time. So that's Tuesday morning, in OZ, right? 8)

Yep. It went up to 85F here today. Pretty nice, if a bit overcast. 8) I gave up on the wardrobe changeover, though. I'm too dang lazy. So I just have huge closets with all my clothes perpetually on display. It's easier than packing things away and switching over once a year.
One of these days, I'll learn some self-discipline... but not today.
Have fun, cocodrilo. :D I bet you'll find some cute outfits you'd forgotten you had. 8)

I have huge closets AND a walk-in closet, yet I still have stuff packed in huge, plastic containers. We all do here in Japan. This protects them from bugs better then just having them hanging in a closet. We have to use bug repellent packs in EVERY box and in addition, desiccant packs to remove the moisture(humid in Japan!). Therefore the hassle! :?

Yeah, I forgot that one. Each year, I have off from CHristmas Eve till after New Years, so it always seems to be an end of the year holiday instead of a beginning of the year Holiday. It's not counted that wayof course, just in my mind. After that, it is such a long time until Memorial Day (sigh)

Thanks for all the kind words. I got to finally hold the new little guy last night. He has been in the NICU unit because of his size and a question of his glucose level. He also has been on oxygen. He should be out of there tonight and in with his mom. They should be able to go home Saturday. But he is a darling!

Five pounds, nine ounces? That is on the small side. I think something like seven pounds is average. But NICU is scary -- probably for the families even more than the little one. Are his Mom and Dad able to feed him themselves? Or is he strictly with the nurses? :?
One day soon, the scary part will all be a memory, and he'll be home with Mom and Dad, screaming his lungs out and keeping everyone awake all night, every night for months. Enjoy! :D

Went to my husband's grandfather's wake last night. Lots of Buddhist chanting and incense. Granddad had a long, happy life, passed away at the ripe old age of 93. I remember, some 18 years ago, his having a cancerous lung removed. After he was released from the hospital, he kept on smoking, as he "wanted to enjoy his few pleasures in his last remaining years". The guy was a real trooper and he lived his last days without prolonged suffering, surrounded by his family.

The little guy is still in the NICU. He is a week old today and might be there for another 4 or 5 days. You know, that - two steps forward and one step back - thing. Needle in his head for the iv, poking his foot for blood tests... can't wait for him to get out and get home. Fortunately, Mom is doing well and Dad's boss has been very understanding, so they are spending a lot of time up at the hospital...as are grandma and grandpa!

Just confirmed that I am going to be trying out for a different salsa rueda group tomorrow night in Syracuse, an hours drive away. Hope that I enjoy meeting the people, think that it works for me, and also get invited as a result. We'll see. :D
Also swing practice cancelled so I can nap before going to dance. This is the first Tuesday night that I am actually really looking forward to doing so. perhaps it is the excitement of trying out for teh group, perhaps it was the fun of dancing Latin to new (even though non-Latin) music and getting some fantastic cha chas in.
You know I thought that I wasn't an exhibitionist, but I wonder sometimes... :? This past Sunday whenever I asked someone to dance I took them to dance in the space between the band and the audience. I guess that is the space that I usually dance at dances. You know you go to a club, and there is the stage for the band, then dance floor, and then the bar seats etc...

Sad thought. Anne Bancroft died of cancer yesterday. May she rest in peace. :(
I guess The Graduate will be showing on TV sometime soon. Better check the ads for American Movie Classics. I loved her as Mrs. Robinson. 8)

Well, I was recruited to attend a "Leadership Institute" at a "camp" a few hours from where I work. The entire event was hosted by by employer...
I assumed "Leadership Camp" would be about leadership...how to become a leader, different styles of leadership, etc. Additionally, I assumed we would be "at camp" with sessions outside, campfires, smores, the whole bit.
Well, we arrive at camp (it was an actual YMCA camp) the first evening and walked about a mile and half to dinner which was really good. Then we proceeded to an area hotel (where all the "big wigs" were staying - too good for camp) and had a social hour...aka lots of drinking. Late into the evening we returned at camp much too tired to have a fire.
The next morning and each of the days that followed, we began with an early breakfast followed by an onlsaught (not sure of spelling) of speakers. Not leadership speakers...speakers about how our college system works, how we receive federal/state funding, how to increase our student enrollment, etc.
During our entire "Leadership Camp" we only did two leadership type activites (hosted by the YMCA camp counselors) which only lasted about two hours, max. There was a panel of other college presidents and they each gave "brief" overviews of what leadership is all about, and we NEVER had a camp fire or smores.
Ultimately, I went in expecting one thing and it was entirely different. Rather than leadership training, it was training on how to understand the "big" picture and inner workings of our college all while making the college president seem like the a king.
On a positive note, I didn't have to take vacation from work, I got paid to be there, and I have tomorrow off.

Ok, now on to other happy thoughts. I have a bunch. Yay! :D
Happy thought #1: My DB and I went to see Rent yesterday and it was amazing. I cried when Angel died. :( I think everybody in the audience did. Really powerful wonderful poignant musical.
Happy thought #2: We just finished painting the study. It is green, rather brighter than I expected, with cream accents. For a while I was afraid it'll be awful, but it actually turned out lovely! I'll post pics once everything's set up. For now I'm kicked out of there while DB is setting up his stuff, since the room's a bit too small for two people to move around much at once. Hurrah, I won't have to work in the kitchen anymore! Another
Happy thought #3: I figured out where to host my pics for free, so now I can post pics in forums. I already started with a picture of my dog over in the pets forum. By the way, Cocodrilo, what's a Wookie?
Happy thought #4: My homegrown herb garden is coming along nicely. I gave up on trying to grow rosemary from seed and just bought a little $2 plant at Home Depot, but mint, dill, cilantro and basil are well on their way. I think tomorrow I'll stop by Home Depot (again!) and get more little pots so I can grow other herbs. I'm thinking chives and parsley are next. :D
Ok, I think that was quite random and happy. My work here is done.

#3 Cool about the photos! Check back to "pets" to find out about the Wookie.
#4 My basil is now 2 inches high and, should we have some sunny days(like today!) interspersed in our month-long rainy season, it will be growing all the more rapidly!

#2: It was a hassle. But really worth it. It's funny, we've lived here for almost a year, and haven't had the time to decorate till now! I never realized how much of my time was eaten up by school.
#4: Mine isn't quite that big yet, I'm just happy it survived replanting and me not knowing what I'm doing. :) We've had plenty of sun and heat here lately and the huge thunderstom we're having right now feels really good for a change. I'm sitting in my ancient papassan chair in our reclaimed alcove by an open window, enjoying an under 90F breeze, again, for a change. :D

So how was it? Hope it didn't turn out like you predicted!
Last night, I decided minimise my asking leads to dance. And surprise surprise. What happened was that I didn't dance as much + the ones who asked me to dance didn't satisfy my dance fix! (I live in a very follower heavy scene  ) So, what I'm trying to say is, no point it waiting to get asked to dance at all!! I was so sick of asking leads that it almost felt like being a dance pest. But that's better than not getting quality dancing really!

I went to this place that I reported a while back and it was better this time around. New music for the first half of the night and my chains were broken - my spirit freed. I had a great time, and I started doing some moves that I never seen and never done before. I just knew where my partner was and where she had to go. I didn't think -it just was!! I'm happier, way happier then I been for months! I'm seriously considering skippin Tuesday and Thursday nights in Ithaca and going elsewhere if they don't change. I don't know how others can, but I know what I need to dance. If they play the old songs I fumble about and mess up. New stuff frees me, liberates me. It speaks and moves the soul and the body follows. That's what I need. :bouncy:

:) thank you... it's nice to be absorbing knowledge again. Last night went somewhat as predicted.... great venue, the new company did a performance which was fun, most of the female 'dancers' but not all of the male 'dancers' were out, so we were follow heavy. I danced with almost all the men I wanted to, except my absolute favorite, who was very busy. A girl in my class approached me and asked why I was in her class if I was "obviously so much better" so I had to explain to her the benefit of a good lead and that I've been around for a while, so they know me and will ask me to dance (I also told her I'd introduce her to some). My more cerebral friend did not show, but there was plenty to watch on the floor when I wasn't dancing. Besides, I wasn't feeling top notch, so I didn't mind sitting or dancing.

Santana concert tonight!!! *SQUEE!*
Live 8 concert tickets secured! I even have somebody who is going to take them off of my hands. :)
Looking forward to a long, lazy weekend out in the sun up at the cottage!!! *more SQUEE!!!*
I finally broke the 40lb. weight loss mark this week! *feeling proud*
....aaaaaaand, could it possibly be that love (or at least the beginnings of adoration) is in the air?

Sounds like you are heading for a super weekend Medira!I'm really looking forward to it! It's going to be a rest and relaxation weekend for me before the big party weekend next weekend. I'm flying down to Virginia for a friend's annual Canada Day/4th of July party. 70 people on 15 acres of land for a long weekend. I'll be very low on sleep for that one. I have a friend from London flying back up to Toronto with me afterward and visiting for a week, so I'm in for a busy couple of weeks! *bounces around*

The three week grandson is coming over to spend the night. His mom and dad are leaving him so that they will get a well-deserved uninterrupted night's sleep. And I will cover the middle of the night feedings! If you only do it for one night, it is kind of warm and cozy to be awake feeding an infant.

Swingolder--better you than me. That's definitely something I'm putting off for a _while_.
Went to see Mr. and Mrs. Smith and was unexpectedly pleased. What a yummy eye candy! And funny in an unforced sort of way, which is so rare in Hollywood movies. Just...little moments that make up real humor.
Went to a WCS comp last weekend and got excited about dancing again. To borrow Medira's phrase, SQUEEE! Coming home from the movie today we got stuck waiting for a train and we actually practiced some moves in the station and thought, how come we didn't start doing that before?? Makes the wait so much better.
Oh yeah. STILL no homework! :D

Back from teaching...rueda. I'm working on making sure that when I call I have no basicos between calls. For too long the Ithaca rueda groups have been used to that. No more. Fresh music and a fresh dynamic style of dancing. No stopping when you get confused...keep the circle moving... It is a lot more fun now. I taught candao, siete con coa cola, abanico, el dedo...

Nothing that great, yet. Renter as I am moving from one rental to another and if someoen took my old palce for a month it woudl help pay for teh rent on one place.
In a couple years I plan to buy a duplex, living in one apt, and then after another couple use the equity in that to buy a real house to live in, so the duplex sholud pay for the mortgage, while I gain equity, then down the raod use that to start the business. Another 10/11 years to get that going, but I'm taking it slowly.

Talked to a long-distance friend on the phone last night. I met her last year at the most unhappy time of my life, and talking to her made me think how happy I am now. Life's good and I'm enjoying it. 8) Hoping to see her later this year.
Everybody in Edinburgh is bracing themselves for the forthcoming G8 week -- the city is going to grind to a halt this Saturday with the "Make Poverty History" march, and I'm worried if I can get back home from work on Wednesday, on the night of the Live8 concert and Bob Geldof's "million people rally". I'm hoping, fingers crossed, all will go without violence and destruction seen in previous G8 protest rallies.

I think about the "Make Poverty History" tagline and wonder what will be achieved.
Does anyone know what their aims are ? It's a great slogan but what does St. Bob want.
Third World debt relief ? Would anyone lend them money again ? Does any country actually pay back it's debt ? If they're not paying back their debt now then debt relief is meaningless.
Argentina, not a poor country, has just renaged on it's debts. So, other countries don't need our permission.

Does anyone know what their aims are ? It's a great slogan but what does St. Bob want.
According to makepovertyhistory.org, their three aims are 1) fair trade 2) debt relief and 3) more/better aid. The campaign was set up by a coalition of many NGOs and charities, and Bob Geldof's Live8 is a series of events organised in support of this campaign.

According to this  chart (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/spl/hi/pop_ups/05/world_the_debt_issue/html/1.stm), African countries originally borrowed $539.4bn, have so far paid back $549.1bn (loan repayment + interest) and still owe $295.4bn.

Some things puzzle me sometimes. Yesterday night this person was telling me how she likes that I'm not rough, how clear my lead is. A couple months ago she was not happy because I wasn't clear!! :?
FUnny thing about this? I do more tricky things now and get the ladies every time. For instance you do a 2 handed followers right turn and end up with your left hand behind her back and right hand veiled over her/yourself. I lead a CBL and almost always the lady expects to do an inside turn and get unwound. I like doing one/couple cbls' before doing the inside turn. :)

WE ARE NOT COMPETING, however. I don't think I could do that yet. But it will be a weekend—Friday afternoon 'til Sunday afternoon—of workshops and dancing and watching others compete. I am hoping I will not feel too out of place. Also, to see where we would fit in. I wonder if there is a category for "Pre-Pre-Newcomers with Jitters"?
