Happy Thought: I quit my job today!!!!!!!!! :bouncy:
How I endured 7 long years of pure hell is beyond me. Actually, the first 2 years were really good, but the last 5 or so was utterly horrible.
Its amazing...such a weight has been lifted from my heart...I planned this for many months...and I knew with every fibre in my being that I had made the right choice. :P
So...onward and upward...going into business for myself...taking some time off for some R&R, get my body back into shape, and then start dancing again! :D
SG
Good for you, SG!!! :D

You know those times with Irony decides to take his big steel toed boot and kick you in the butt? Well I had one of those moments tonight.
I was out dancing with some friends and went to request a song. They were curious to what I had requested. So I decided to play coy and tell them "it’s not a hustle." Then lo and behold what is played next, you guessed it, a hustle.
I hope you got a laugh out of the deal, at least... that, and a good hustle.
It's hard to remember what dance a song is, unless you're listening to it. :? That happens to me, too. I get waltzes and foxtrots mixed up a lot, in my memory. Not sure why ... :?

Sagitta- are you seeing any rats in or around your building? If so, it is an indication that those folks are too lazy to take out their trash.
It's still warm enough to wear a tank top here! I need something with long sleeves at night. Odd weather. Suddenly the temperature's gonna drop about 20 degrees, I just know it. Hope it is still nice for the sake tasting/jazz concert on the 15th. Drinks & dinner served outside, Terumasa Hino & his band will perform inside of a sake warehouse! (This is a kick butt event! I have attended every year for the past 6 years!)

It's beautiful here, too, now that the hurricanes appear to be gone (for a while ... knock on wood. LOL)
Highs in the eighties (Fahrenheit,) low humidity, lots of sunshine. A perfect time to visit; an even better time to live here. 8)

Great weather here yesterday and today: sunny!! A little on the chilly side though.
Sagitta- are you seeing any rats in or around your building? If so, it is an indication that those folks are too lazy to take out their trash. Nope. No rats. While on the topic of trash I just used my last old garbage tag. Here one must buy sheets of garbage tags and use one tag for each bag. This year they raised the price of the tags. Fortunately I had some old ones and have been using them. (I like to have plenty in hand as I detest running out of anything.) Must go and dig deeper into my pockets for the new ones, I guess. :(

pygmalion

I think it's mostly in the tone of voice. There's cute (aka a hottie), then there's cute (sarcastic) , then there's cute (like a baby's behind LOL.) As you can see, certain tones of voice are better than others, when you're talking cute.

This thought is neither happy nor random, but I'll post it anyhow. The fashion show which I was to model in (AND do a solo salsa performance!) was cancelled due to yet ANOTHER typhoon ready to hit Japan! Execs at the park where the event was to be held are now meeting to try to re-schedule this huge event. I am more worried for the people whose homes have been battered by the previous 3 typhoons(some acquaintances of mine included) not to mention the dozens of deaths and countless still missing. Similar to your hurricanes, Florida inhabitants, however we get REALLY high seas and landslides thrown in with the deal. Freeways are closed off while packed with traffic(my friend spent 18 hours being stuck in a car during the last typhoon) and trains are halted mid-route, leaving passengers stranded on the tracks!!! Winds are starting to pick up as I write this. Wonder if my classes will be cancelled at the university tomorrow?

And another completely unrelated and random thought. I wonder whatever happened to that singer/rapper (I use both terms VERY loosely LOL) Gerardo, the one who sang "Rico Suave" in the early nineties sometime. I bet he's working behind a desk somewhere. Life! :?

Yeah, he was a producer for the longest time. Family man, short hair and cute! Maybe three years ago was talking about doing spanish pop but never came to fruition or maybe it did, just got lost behind all the other Pop mania.
I really have to go to work. Uggghhh! :x I wanna stay home!!! :P :P

Producer? That's different from what I'd envisioned -- I was thinking stock broker, or computer engineer, or something completely out of the music business. I'm glad he's kept at least a toe in the water, so to speak. (And I KNEW he'd be cute, whatever he was doing.  )
I feel your pain on the work thing. Just do the best you can. One foot in front of the other. (Hmm. That's from a Rankin-Bass kid's Christmas special. I just can't remember which. :? )

Yes, yes! There was an abominable snowman, too, right? Didn't Frosty end up melting into a puddle of water in some greenhouse? That scene where that song came in involved some cute animals(a lamb perhaps?) first learning how to walk on wobbly legs. UNhappy thought:
Had a bad fall on the dance floor last night :(
Someone dancing behind me swept my foot right off the floor just when I was putting my weight on it out of a turn, and I landed on the boney part at the top of my butt (that REALLY hurts, I can tell you). It was mideway through a good dance with a very good leader too, so I was extremely annoyed I had to abort
It still hurts this mortning -- hope nothing's broken.

pygmalion
10-11-2004, 07:23 AM
Termites are the absolute worst! Does your termite insurance cover the damage, or do you not know yet? btw, there's a huge scandal going on here with one of the major termite control companies -- allegations of shoddy work and unjustifiably denied claims are on the table. :?
Happy thought: I got a new computer yesterday. My old one finally gave up the ghost. So I was down yesterday, figuring out my home network. But I'm back up to speed now, and my home computer is smokin!
cocodrilo
10-11-2004, 06:03 PM
Termite insurance? I think our house had a 5-year warranty on termites but the house is already 13 years old. I just paid the $2500 and let the guys do their job. This extermination company gives a 5-year warranty so I feel a bit at ease. Contractors are coming over tomorrow to assess damage & talk about possible replacement of minor beams that were chewed up. *sigh* One good thing- I heard the insecticide they use is so powerful that it will keep spiders and roaches away as well, so I'm hoping we'll be bug-free for at least the next few years...
pygmalion
10-11-2004, 06:06 PM
Oh. :( I keep forgetting things are different everywhere. Here, you buy a bond when your house is being built, the ground is treated for subterranean termites, and the termite company basically insures you against damage by guaranteeing the termite treatment. If you get infestation, they pay for the repairs (as long as you make the annual insurance payment, of course.)

Yes. So sad. He was only 52 years old. Younger than three of my siblings, who seem very young to me. :( :(
But he had a very full life, both before and after the accident...
I've been thinking about this whole age thing. My ex's excuse for having a sedate lifestyle incompatible with mine was that he was much older than me. But I've danced salsa with guys much older than him (even a 70+ guy)... Age is whatever you make it to be. You can be over 60 and young, or old before 40. When I stopped going dancing (pre-salsa -- freestyle club dancing) because he didn't want to come with me anymore, I threw my little black dancing dress away and told myself I was too old for it, and that I was entering middle age. That made me feel old. I was 32 then.
pygmalion
10-12-2004, 07:31 AM
Yes. That's true. And he left such a beautiful legacy, particularly after his accident.
About your ex, Mac, I won't ever ask or pry into your personal situation. Never. But I will say this. Love and grief and loss and hope and understanding and happiness are weird, interconnected things. I know you'll come to peace and happiness soon. Hugs, sweetie. 8)

She still is shaking her head. I just smile, laugh, waving my hand as I walk away. For all of you beginners out there don't miss a chance when someone asks you to dance. You'll lose out. :P :)

Two mediocre salsa/latin dancers with a connection. :bouncy:  :bouncy: Not only that, but my dances with others were also 100 times better than usual. She gave me a confidence, a feeling for the music. I'm at a loss for words. People asked whether we danced before, how long we danced.... Anyway this is for all those out there. You don't need to know a lot!! Just find the right person and get the connection. It seems that I am abandoning the dance with everyone camp these days. :( A small price to pay, IMO. How can I sleep?

Had to pack away most of my dance shoes. Kept out only three pairs. I'm holding back the tears as we speak. :? Moving stinks. I'm already missing my shoes.

Yup. I'm moving to Dallas, Texas, for a new job. Yes. Another new job. LOL.
It's actually a pretty leisurely move. I start in my new spot at the beginning of the year. Between now and then, I finish up at the old job, then take a couple weeks vacation to sell the house and move across the country. I land in Dallas three days before Christmas.
So my biggest action item now is to find good dance teachers and dance spots in my soon-to-be home. The nice part is that Dallas is a big city, compared to Orlando, where I live now. There are a lot more networking opportunities, more dance venues, and more cultural events there than here. So all I have to do is make it 'til Christmas, and I get a brand new life. 8)

Peach is in Orlando??? Nevermind, flight plans for the world wide dance tour will not be changing. And I repeat just in case anyone is confused, the flight plans for the world wide dance tour will not be changing since Peach is in Orlando! ;)

An official determination has been made. After proper and careful investigation Sagitta's photo in the local paper is not worth sharing. :( It does not even begin to show what the dancing was like on Saturday night. I remember once at a party with my salsa instructor, who always smelled fantastic, we had danced a really squishy-close merengue and afterwards I realized like I smelled like him! I told this to him and he said he now smelled like me! I guess our fragrances rubbed off on each other(no doubt, the both of us being heavy sweaters !) There's one fragrance that is a total turnoff to me- it's a Bulgari fragrance and the Japanese over here LOVE it. peachexploration asked:
"DP, what's your favorite cologne? :)"
Hmmm ... perhaps Yardley of London's Musk After Shave Lotion. I have a small bottle I keep in my vehicle, but I'm beginning to get close to the bottom. It just seems to suit my sense of smell and I've never had a woman dislike it on me.
I had a woman that really liked Santa Fe on me, which is really a relatively cheap after shave, but if it works for the woman, what the heck. I might even try Obsession (yet that ain't cheap) if it was what floated your boat Peach. ;)
I also like Strawberries & Champagne body lotion made by VS(unfortunately discontinued). I put this on my hands before dancing which makes for smooth hands, and several woman have commented positively on the scent.
Then there is Amber Romance, another VS body lotion. My most recent ex wore this and she smelled great. She thought I was wacked for wearing it myself, but I haven't had any other negative coments.
And as long as I'm talking about what I like on a woman, oh wow ...
White Linen ... my ex from a very long term relationship from several years back would wear this and I would just go all mushy smelling this one. I can pick it out in a crowd, and just smelled it this past weekend with one lady I danced with last Saturday night.
Victoria, Rapture, and Encounter (the last two no longer made) always did it for me, too.
There was also a perfume called Deneuve, after the french actress. No doubt this one has an even more powerful effect on me then White Linen!

MacMoto- It is best you go out and whiff the stuff in person. Depending on your body chemistry(high/low alkaline) fragrances may change in a matter of hours. For me, it is extremely difficult to find a good perfume, as my body actually "changes" the smell. First, I find something that I really like, then I try it and see how it lasts/if there are any changes, then I go for the puchase. I am a regular perfume wearer & a bottle lasts me 6 months.
As for your colors, have you ever had a consultation? I have winter coloring(bright, serious colors like red, purple royal blue hot pink & also black) yet I can get away with accessories/gems in spring, fall & summer hues!

:( I'm extremely sensitive to perfumes, so rarely, if ever, wear it.
This conversation makes me think of walking into department stores during the holidays.
I always have to put the head fake on the perfume slingers, or risk explaining why I smell like perfume that is not the brand that my girlfriend wears.
Its really a lose-lose situation for me, because I hate to admit that I couldn’t make the move on a 45 year old lady who weighs in at less than half my weight.
One time I brought a bottle of my girlfriend's perfume with me and when the lady asked if I would like to smell a sample, I politely declined but then followed up with "would you like to try some Desire?"
It cracked me up when she smelled it and liked it, and actually made me spray some on her. I had to resist the temptation to put 4 or 5 sprays on her (but, since everyone knows that Santa Clause is watching during the holiday season, I opted for discretion over valor).

Well, looks like the killer typhoon has pretty much passed. My walls were shaking today! According to the evening news, 11 people have been killed so far & 6 are missing and the thing is still blowing across Japan. News said that 1/4 of our annual rainfall fell just this evening and thousands were evacuated from flooding and avalanche risk. Total damage I assume will be assessed tomorrow. Then they announced yet ANOTHER typhoon headed this way! Jayzus, when will it end?
I can relate. Glad you made it through this one okay. 8)

Well ... my brother went to Iraq today ... not random, not really happy either. I have only an imagination for what he will be doing on his assignment, and hopefully he'll be back from his mission soon.
I will think of him every day until he either returns safely or else worse. You can't imagine how much a family member really worries about this until you have one going. And then it really hits you. You get it fully with all it's emotional components. Dad won't talk about, Mom is upbeat and positive. The world really comes into a different view.

Yep. My first cousin, a 49-year-old truck driver with a wife and young kids, shipped out six weeks ago. He's been in the reserves forever. Joined the army out of high school and the reserves four years later. Now he's in Iraq, facing heaven only knows what on a daily basis. :(
I take no political position, here. I just pray for the well-being of as many people as possible. :?

Ramdom & happy thought: it's my bf's birthday today :D .
I've booked a beautiful little French place for dinner tonight. They do ducks. Most items on the menu are ducks!
I've also bought a yummmy little chocolate dome (3 colour mousse cake covered in dark chocolate) from Max Brenner (fantastic Israeli chocolate store, like a choclate version of Starbucks)...........
I will serve the cake at home, as the restaurant wants to charge 'cakeage' @ $6 each  ...!!!!!!

Sounds nice, SC! The restaurant charges to bring in your own cake? Isn't that a bit petty? I thought a lot of places let diners bring in their own birthday cakes which they had custom-ordered(did you specify b-day cake?)...Anyhow, with duck & chocolate(& a bf!) sounds like you're going to have a great time! :D

It's horrible, cocodrilo. I experienced a similar rise in vegetable prices when I moved to Florida from Pennsylvania. Not quite sure why, since Florida has a lot more commercial farms. But prices shot way up. It was a big financial shock. And I started buying produce as needed, rather than in huge amounts, like when I lived up north.

Tough luck for the missing and dead (with all respect), but I guess that if you are worried about eggplant then you must have weathered the storm pretty well (good for you!).

Yes. I meant the tenth one to actually make landfall in Japan. It boggles my mind. Japan is pretty small, in terms of land mass. So what's the chance of those many storms making landfall within one season? It's gotta be pretty long odds, right? :?
