well i got sucked into the world of international latin and now i'm competing in it along with american rhythm. spent about 10 grueling coaching hours on it over the past 3 days and have my routines down but i need some current latin favorites. paso is pretty much a given since they all sound the same but i need some good jive samba rhumba and cha cha thats hot in the international circuit. can anyone list a few for each dance for me so i have something to practice to.

also i took my silver test yesterday for work and got a 92outta 100 so i'm pretty happy. just thought i'd share.

Hi Mr. Bixx,

Congrats on your test results! Way to go!

As for music,

I like "Hit the Road, Jack" (jive) which has made a comeback with the movie "Ray" being out there.

Michael Buble's "Sway" is a pretty good cha-cha.

Samba....I like Gwen Stefani's "If I were a Rich Girl"

Rumba....I like "The Look of Love" by Diana Krall.

You're right with the paso...not exactly new ones oozing off the airwaves these days!

Heck, I don't even hear them played at ballroom social events.

Although, now that I take a moment to recall, I did hear one played on the Saturday that Paso Doble was first being taught at the studio where I take lesson. No one was up dancing.

I've actually had one lesson in Paso Doble, and I kind of liked it. :D

I really like the "attitude" and character of the dance, but I find it very boring at the bronze level. And I think I have only heard it played once at a social dance, but I think that was a screw-up in the queue.

A screw up in the queue ... lol.

What a great idea ... next time, like maybe on April Fools Day or something, sneak in a Paso Doble into the local studios music mix! Confuse the heck out of every body.

MQ, if that's an invite to do a performance on April Fools Day, I'll need to learn more Paso Doble then I currently know. ;)

Yet this idea definitely has some merit. Not much time till the day this year, but maybe some day, and the cape might even be possible. :D

You should have seen me in my father's 1950's vintage sailor's outfit for a foxtrot to "Beyond the Sea", but who knows, I might actually do this again someday.

(But now we are way off topic here. Sorry Mr Bixx.)

.... and we go back to the point....

Congratulations on your test Bixx. They can be terrifying or invigorating. I always have come out of a test feeling energized.

As for music. If you are up for purchasing some good cds,
Samba Pa Ti is great for sambas. There are many differnent speeds so you can slowly work up your hip pulse.
Ultimate Latin Albums and the Latin Jam cds are wonderful collections. Many of the songs you here in the competition circut.
