There seems to be an abundance of music for ballroom dancing that is either elevator music, the wrong tempo or just outright goofy.

In the elevator music department, there is always the Betty White series.

In the goofy department, there is that song, "Waltzing Matilda".

What music have you been forced to dance to that is goofy, off-tempo or elevator?

Betty White made ballroom music? I love Betty White. I think she's hilarious. Although I doubt she'd make very good music. :?

I don't think it's the same Betty White, swinginboo, but I'm not sure. I love Betty White, too. She is a great animal rights activist.

Another elevator music producer is Laser Light, but I actually like their Tango CD, but the other ones are not worthy.

Goofy?

Two words: Lawrence Welk!!

Yeah, those things like Laserlight and their ilk come up with some real goofy stuff alright! Nothing I'd spend my hard earned cash on and I DEFINITELY would sit out those dances, I can't stand dancing to bad music, period! :x (grrrrrrrrrrrrr!)

One time, at my fave swing place I heard this really goofy tune with Hammond organ, drums and TUBA!!! What added to the sureal quality of that experience was the fact I was dancing with someone who was a good head taller than me (and I'm a healthy 6'2" . It was kind of hard to lead her (only because of the height differential) but she was such a great sport about it.

I HATE "Waltzing Mathilda"...their was a teacher at my school who would only play that waltz on her lessons. Over and over and over. Arrrrghghgh! :P

LOL! Isn't it funny how you learn all the words to the songs you hate most? And there are so many elevator-music ballroom songs to hate.

How about the Masochism Tango.

And is anyone familiar with a raunchy tune known as The Rodeo Song?

My first year of college I took a Latin class. The teacher had a cd that had all sorts of versions of the song from Titanic (can't think of the name just now, but you all know the one I mean). There was a Cha cha version of the song. And a Rhumba version. There was a PASO DOBLE version!!!
One day the teacher said to us "You've been bad today!" and put on the cd. ACKK!!! Most horrible frightening thing ever!

Oh, and the team I was later on had a comedy routine to the Masochism Tango. Pretty entertaining, actually.

"Hot-hot-hot" = Cheesy merengue from hell!

One time, I heard a tango re-make of Michael Jackson's "Beat It."

BUT, I cannot resist having fun while jitterbugging to WHAM!'s "Wake me up befor eyou go go!" George Michael RULES!

Ha, Ha, Dancementor!!! That is absolutely hilarious. Waltzing Matilda is the pseudo Australian national anthem, but I cannot imagine doing a waltz to it, or any ballroom dance for that matter. Perhaps some New Vogue, but nothing else...sheesh! ;)

Just this evening, we were searching for Peabody songs. And found a CD of "classics" that labeled "I wish I was in Dixie" and "I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy" as Peabody. Well, technically yes, but we couldn't get halfway around the floor due to laughing!

Then there is "There's a hole in the Bucket" viennese waltz. It starts out rather decent...a bit oompah for my taste, but at least sounds ok. Then she starts singing and it all goes downhill from there.

It is fun to watch peoples faces when that song comes on. They are ok, then the brows furrow when they try to tell what the words are, then their eyes open WIDE, and then they look around at other people for confirmation, and finally laugh.

The DanceVision CDs. The one with the plain blue cover. I hate that CD with the fire of a thousand suns that will never die! It's the most goofyh lame-o bunch of bleeping bleep bleep I've ever had to listen to. My old boss here in Orlando would play it at EVERY friggin' party just to piss me off. The ONE CD I got for my dance club with extremely awful cheesy music is the Klaus Hallen Musicals CD (I think it's discontinued now). The vocals are of dubious quality, and one has to wonder about some of the arrangements. I keep it because I enjoy the shock value of seeing people paso to Phantom of the Opera (that is... unless they outright refuse). But I do put it in to remind people... the music I could play could be much worse.

BAD. Cheesy. Campy. MIDI!!

I have the tango cd (bought for 20 cents at a dollar store :) ) - oooh. MIDI tango versions of such gems as the Beatles' "Penny Lane", for example.

Ew, we had the Klaus Hallen one. It really was awful; thankfully everyone knew so they didn't use it.

There are so many goofy peabody songs. The one that sticks out most in my mind is something about "don't bring Lulu" or something. I heard the same (purposefully) three ridiculous peabody songs at Music City every year and I'm convinced it was for no other reason than the audience's amusement. Though by the fifth year, it had gotten old. . .

I was just listening to "Squat That Rabbit" by Taj Mahal on my iPod. A very goofy song but would probably make a good Rumba.

Goofy Ballroom Music? How about three seasons of DWTS?

There is a ballroom dance club in my area that gets very "creative" with their music choices (e.g. very little actual latin music for their latin dances) and the overall feeling I get when I go there is that people just try to do fancy steps but very few people care about actual dancing.

Two great - but goofy quicksteps "George of the Jungle" and the theme song from the Muppet show. Also "Rainbow Connection" also a muppet song is great slow v waltz.

I put my CD's in the hibernating cave as I was moving, but on my "want to play" list is Lyle Lovett's "I'm a Soldier in the Army of the Lord" (quickstep) and maybe a few other gospel bits.
