View Full Version : For the male members of DF - what would you do? ;)

 Those of you who have seen the movie "How to lose a guy in 10 days" will know the scene I am talking about.

Kate Hudson's character is a journalist for a magazine and she sets out to do a piece on "How to lose a guy in 10 days". She does all the things she possibly can to scare off her "victim". As part of her plan to get the ball rolling, she leaves her handbag the first night they met, in his apartment.

The next day, the guy has taken her handbag into the office. He and two colleagues are looking at the handbag and are absolutely dying to have a look inside. One of them "accidentally" knocks the bag over so that it opens and the contents end up on the floor, so that they would be "forced" to pick up the contents and thereby see what's inside.

So, the question for the male members of DF is? What would you have done? Would you have taken a peek , engineered the accidental opening of the bag or would you have returned it to its own totally intact? 8)

I'm not curious like that. I'd rather find out stuff in the due course of time. That was a good movie. I like Matthew McCo????hay. I can't remember the actress' name but she was good as well. However, I think I may be more dilligent in finding answers to concerns than I have been in the past. I used to just be content learning things when the lady was ready to tell me. But now if I smell something odd, well I'm not sure how I'll go about it, but I won't be letting questions sit unanswered. But no snooping for me. Also I guess I trust my instincts in asking and getting answers to questions more than I would trust what I saw in a handbag out of context.

hey, what about E----?

actually, i had one partner who went to great lengths to avoid revealing her age. had i had the opportunity, i might have pulled out her driver's license just to find out.

yeah. (decades ago) i worked in a drug store during high school & discovered that a female classmate had a birth control prescription. had i not known that my older sister had gone on a similar prescription for some sort of feminine disorder not having to do with preventing conception, i might have drawn a conclusion & spread rumors all over school.

its not my bag to peek into... if she wants to share its contents then she will.

If i wanted to I would have without going to great lengths to engineer the accidental opening of the purse. Simple IMO. But, that's just not em so I would have simply handed it back to her withouta peek.

i'd take a peek. I ain't gonna deny it ;) this is assuming i am the main guy, not if i were one of the two colleagues. that would be plain retarded - to check out the handbag of somebody my colleague is dating..

I dumped two different guys, because they looked in my purse.

Don't know what emoticon to use, because it's just plain true. Not trying to shock or amuse anybody. But some things are personal. For me, my purse (what did you call it, P?) is one of those things. If I share it with you or show it to you, fine. If you peek, and I find out, you're history. Sorry. I'm not particularly secretive. Actually, I'll tell my guy/man/boyfriend pretty much everything -- even stuff he wishes I'd keep to myself LOL. But let me tell you. If you pry, you're dead, as far as I'm concerned.

Peek at your own risk.

I wouldn't be interested at all. Personal privacy is a pet peeve of mine. I wouldn't expect her to look through my stuff and she wouldn't have to worry about me looking through hers.

Ahh but the bag in the scene was left purposefully so he would find the Knicks tickets!

I dont know what Id do if someone peeked in my bag...all the would find is a horrible drivers licence photo, a pile of make-up, gum and probably some old movie stubs

It's not about what's in the purse (in my case, a thousand old receipts LOL.)

You could leave a note in your purse saying sorry dude, you screwed up! See ya!

 ShyDancer, I agree with you and also that "it is only a movie". But, umm, in the dating scene how many people are going to admit to "accidentally" leaving something behind so that they would have an excuse to call the other person, or the other person would have an excuse to call them?

For the movie to have worked, Matthew what's his name had to open the purse. (It also provided one of the funny moments of the movie.) The flow/beat would have been different if he had just called her up at the magazine without having opened her purse (handbag Pygmalion is what I called it   ) Kate Hudson would have had to engineer the date to the game some other way. :D

Not many guys would jump on the chance to see that film, it being a true chick flick, so they might not know what you are talking about. I've looked in guys' wallets before(GAWD, he's 31?!!!- when I was 19!) and I didn't think it was any biggie, except for the shock factor. The guy in the movie was quite a babe(what's that actor's name?) and if I were that character, I would've dumped the wench way early on, bet or no bet. (That dog, baby talk, those clothes, stuffed animals, "Princess Sophia!!!!!" )

Matthew McConaughey. He and the group of male friends pulled it just far enough to the guy side that I didn't mind seeing it, but yeah, it's pretty chicky. She was pretty awesome when she wasn't trying to get rid of him.

I suspect the poll is regarding the situation in the film, and since I haven't seen it, although I wouldn't mind seeing it, I haven't voted.

However, my mother taught me not to go into women's pocket books, purses, handbags, glove compartments, etc. Heck, I don't even make myself at home in their kitchen without asking permission.

If I do, then it's because they ask me. Examples include to get something while they are driving, or they are standing at a mirror with their hands in their hair and they need a clip they got tucked away somewhere yet don't want to mess up what they have just done up or whatever. Otherwise with out clear permission, it is a big no go.

Now, if she left it on purpose, what's the point? Is she testing the guy? Or has she stuck things in there for him to open so he'll be revolted and move on? (And you can spare DP the details on that last option. ;))

Either way, whether or not she left it on purpose, I'd probably try to call her and let her know she left it behind. Maybe there is a reason that would make sense to open it to get it back to her, but I don't see it in perhaps what little I understand of this situation.

So DP, this is the "option" you would have taken?
returned it to its owner, without taking a peek, respecting the owner's privacy

PS. Good on your mum!

Exactly. Those good old fashioned values -- decency, honesty, and no purse-peeking -- are hard to come by these days.

Take a peek into a woman's bag and give it back the next day ?

Are you insane ?

I would never do that !

Actually, I think I honeestly COULD never do that.

I mean, let's face it : there is so much junk in a woman's handbag, that you'd have to be out of your mind to imagine you could check it out and return it to the bag in the exact way it was apparently not sorted in 24 hours...
The sheer sizing of the task makes me dizzy...

.
..
...

I know, I know, I'll let myself out...

Have'nt been hanging out that much on DF lately anyways :?

Women's handbags or purses are places no man should go! Man, there are reportedly things in there that would nearly kill a man upon seeing them, God knows what would happen if a man actually touched them!
Actually, I believe that a woman's handbag is the owners personal space. Only enter with permission, and then only on a have to basis. I have been married a long time, and I still only get into her purse or handbag when instructed to do so. Married or not, everyone has a right to their private space. Going there, even with permission, has it's own dangers, IMHO. Going there without permission? BAD, bad.
