I have a friend who is coming to Baltimore next week and she would be interested in the Salsa scene there...

Anyone here living in Baltimore? Or close? Anyone been there?

Baltimore is only an hour away from all of us DC people, Raluca. I'll look up the information...

Any chance she might be persuaded to come down to DC instead? We'll make it worth her time...

This is what a friend of mine said. (His opinions only, YMMV...)

1) "Salsa Uno" at Club ONE, 300E Saratoga Street
Nights: Wednesday
Class: Susan Leiter, Level varies, 7:30-9ish
Dancing: From 9ish 'til the witching hour...mostly an On1 crowd; if
any of you go, then there will be some On2 dancers there! :) Expect
beginner to lower-intermediate dancing for the most part. However,
if you go with a group, it can be a lot of fun. Has a nice
atmosphere, reasonably priced drinks, and very little, or no,
smoking. Also,it's one of the few clubs I've gone to where they
pump the AC! I believe that Bruno will be playing there sometime in
May, and I know that Mike Morales will be playing there on May
4...that will probably be the best night for good salsa. I usually
alternate between ONE and ZZbars every other week.

2) "Hook-up Time" at Latin Palace, corner of Broadway and Eastern
Aves
Nights: Thursday - Saturday
Class: Psyon Mauricio(Dee Scott), Beginner(?), 8:30 - 9:30
Dancing: 'Til 2am on the weekends...mostly an off-beat, off-rhythm,
crowd due to excessive drinking. These are rank beginners, emphasis
(literally, sometimes) on "rank." Ladies, expect to be ogled and/or
groped on the dance floor. Men, expect to be ogled and/or groped on
the dance floor. Parking is a nightmare and I have had one of my
friends held up at gunpoint and two others have had their cars
broken into/stolen within two blocks of the club. The strip joint
across the street also attracts a weird clientelle. Haven't been
here in months. NOT RECOMMENDED!
Cover: $10.

3) "Noche Latina" at Gardels Supper Club, S President Street
Nights: Saturday
Class: Hugo & Grace, Beginner(?), Upstairs from 9-10(?)
Dancing: From 10ish - 2am...mostly an On1 or off-beat crowd. Expect
beginner to lower-intermediate dancing for the most part, but some
good dancers do show up occasionally. Great atmosphere, but the
music is sometimes lacking (always the same DJ...he ranges from
abysmal to middling fair). However, if you go with a group, it can
still be a lot of fun. Parking garage, $6 (?), is across the 4-lane
highway, and they have a $10 valet service. I usually go about once
or twice a month...will be there this week.
Cover: $10 and there is a (not so important now) mandatory $2 coat-
check.

'fraid not. This is why B'more peeps tend to venture into DC fairly often to get their salsa fix.

Yeah, come down to DC, it's not that far from B'more...

And there are still lots of folks who will be around this weekend (who won't be going to the LA Congress).
