I was browsing through a women's magazine yesterday  and there was a list along the lines of "50 things to thank men for" I only remember two...

1 - [insert name] for inventing the internet (I forgot the guy's name)
2- George Clooney, for proving that it is possible for men to age gracefully

Any other POSITIVE things you can think of (keeping it General rated!) that we can "thank men for"?

Erm... I'd like to thank men for learning to dance and getting slinky bottoms I can look at!

:D :D :D

Men have taught women patience. I hear it's a virtue.

:eyebrow:

Oh, and I would like to thank Thomas Edison for inventing the phonograph, which led to the start of the recorded music industry that's given me so many hours of happiness!

Okay, I can think of a few!

1 - [insert name] for inventing the internet (I forgot the guy's name)
2 - George Clooney, for proving that it is possible for men to age gracefully
3 - Thomas Edison, for inventing the phonograph, which led to the start of the recorded music industry that's given me (Ms Sunlight and billions of other women  ) so many hours of happiness
4 - Valentino, the Italian designer - for the wonderful dresses he has created
5 - The Wright brothers, for flight

(I hope the above provides some inspiration! )

LMAO! You're killing me!!!

Okay...there are lots of good male designers, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, etc., etc.

Okay, okay...and if it weren't for men, we wouldn't have dance partners.

And yes, yes, George Clooney is a hunka hunka burnin' love.

Didn't Sir Thomas Crapper invent the toilet? At least you ladies don't have to use outhouses anymore!

Rumor has it that his wife still complained.

He probably left the seat up! :D :D :D

I don't know if any one person invented the internet, but Tim Berners-Lee invented the web. Is that the missing name we're looking for?

Yes, he did! 8) :D And he was an Englishman, too!

His wife may have complained, but that was probably about her surname more than anything...

OK, here's a few more:

Carlos Santana (for obvious reasons)

Sir Walter Raleigh (you know the story: as he was escorting a lady along the street, they came to a giant puddle that covered the width of the road. With a flourish, Raleigh took off his cloak and threw it across the puddle so that the lady could cross without getting her feet wet.)

Frank Whittle, inventor of the jet engine (without which I'd find it a lot harder to get around my beloved Europe)

Brad Pitt (see Carlos Santana)

King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table (inventors of chivalry... see Sir Walter Raleigh)

And not forgetting... Tim Berners-Lee (I'm taking your word for that, Ms Sunlight!), all the men who've ever danced with me, and most of all, my father, just for being who he was.

I'm sure I'll think of many more... 8) :D

Perez Prado
Ernesto Lecuona
Ibrahim Ferrer
Tito Gomez
Benny Moré

My husband for making me feel safe.
My male salsa friends for protecting me from sleezey drunks.

Yes, but I think their mention was a bit more, how can I put it? Subtle? I guess they read the original instructions/thread guidance

Any other POSITIVE things you can think of (keeping it General rated!) that we can "thank men for"?

Although it wasn't mentioned, originality was also hoped for... :P

I agree with pygmalion on the heavy lifting ^_^

Also would like to thank all my tall guy friends for getting stuff of those stupid shelves for me ><

And also for all those swooning gentlemen for paying things for me ^_^

As a guy friend of mine once said "Us guys, we're good for only two things generally speaking: heavy lifting and paying for stuff." ^_^ Gotta love 'em sometimes.

It's really funny, but until the hurricanes last year, I really didn't believe in men's work versus women's work. Intellectually, I still don't. But viscerally is a totally different story.

The morning after each hurricane, it was men -- my neighbors -- up on every roof in the neighborhood, including mine, securing things, fixing things, and doing the heavy lifting. (While I ran errands, made drinks, and watched... and worried.)

I'm pretty liberated and I pay for my own stuff. But for that experience, I'll be forever grateful. There are some men in my old neighborhood (you know who you are guys) to whom I'll be forever grateful. :notworth:

I've been lurking here and can't really think of anything with the exception of horizontal (and occasional vertical) carnal gratification. This is because I can manage to take out the trash, reach high places, open jars, squish spiders, pay my own way, and kick drunks in the nuts by myself...

pygmalion
05-05-2005, 07:28 AM
Ah. But just because I can do all those things by myself, doesn't necessarily mean I should ...

And, btw, men didn't invent sex. (As much as each and every one might like you to believe he did.  )

YES! Repair cars! I have always left that up to the guys.

No, men didn't invent sex, but as the saying goes, it takes two to tango!

P.S. Sex was invented by a woman, wanting something to keep her occupied while her nails were drying!

Quite possible, but alas, we have to thank men for doing all the hard work while we wait for our nails to dry!
